Hi,

I've been reading this post and keeping tracks of the update. It seems like there are unresolve problems with the rough idling. I am experiencing the same thing the second day I bought my truck, 2000 5.4 .from reading these post..in conclusion..seems like replacing o2 sensor, replacing mass air flow sensor and egr valve will do the trick, I brought it in the second week I got the truck for rough idling and shaking engine when accelerating. They replace the #4 coils and new spark plugs. It fix the problem but 2 days later the rough idling came back but the shaking engine while accelerating was fix.
I am thinking of taking it back to the shop if it gets anyworse. If they dont fix it..I will put my truck for sale or just trade it in. I still have the 92,000 extended warrenty on it..so ya.
I think the best solution is:
Get rid of the truck and get a toyota tundra

By the way what is SSM?

be sure that the hose running off the IAC Sensor is bent or had any hinderance of flow. sometimes a bad ignition wire or ignition coil pack will give u the bad idle or cheap gas. but check the IAC sensor its the first small hose that runs off the Air intake. and goes into a place near the throttle body. check that because if that IAC sensor gets a bad airflow reading it can cause a rought idle. the IAC has a small plastic muffler on it which is right angled. u should probably be able to tell which one i am talking about i dont have a pic of one but its from one of the hoses that runs off of your air intake. so try that dude and good luck

I was just reading through all of the complaints of rough idle. I have 2002 FX4 that incurred the same problems about 12k-15k miles. Couldn't figure out for the life of me what was causing it. At 40k I replaced the air filter with a K&N airfilter, not the intake kit, instead of using the standard throw away kind. The rough idle went away and hasn't came back. It now has 50k miles on it. I replaced my other filters everytime I changed the oil at 5k miles, never any difference. I also switched to synthetic oil at 10k miles. For my problem the K&N filter solved the problem.
