Why do people talk smack on fords?

This gave me a good laugh. And what's really funny is that the same thing I posted back in 1999 is true today as far as I'm concerned. All around I preferred my Ford. But the engine/tranny combination of the GM 6.2l (especially tuned) just couldn't be touched by Ford in 2009 when I bought my SD and got rid of my 2006 F150.
Though maybe with the new engine lineup for 2011 things are about to swing in favor of FMC. I know I can't wait to go drive a 3.5l EB.

I just don't get people that are so loyal to one brand that they bash the other brand for no good reason. For me, liking Ford and GM are not mutually exclusive.
Ask any young kid of 7 - 9 yeasrs old growing up in the south how he spells "truck" ...
... and half the time he'll spell it ...
... "F O R D"
...
... because he has heard his daddy, his uncles, his friend's daddies and uncles ... and even his grandpa talk fondly of FORD trucks "a gittin' the job done".
The other half will spell truck as "T R U C K" or they'll look at you funny because they think you maybe don't know how. I've done it with strangers even.
Never had one yet spell the C word or D word.

In response to this thread, I will say that I have never owned a Ford and I never planned to. I got this truck for a great deal I couldn't pass up. I have enjoyed driving it so far, but so many issues at 56000 miles?? Really?? Well-designed??
Another point I will make is that I have worked in auto repair shops for 12 years and Fords are some of the worst designed vehicles on the planet. Anything from electrical, A/C, BRAKES, front end (ball joints), etc etc etc. These things have problems all over. The best part about them is the motor, and even those have issues. I mean who the heck designed the spark plug setup on a 5.4?? WTF? They almost always break when doing a tune-up and require huge headaches to fix. Even Ford mechanics say they are horribly-designed trucks. I owned a few Chevies and they are almost as bad, so Ford isn't on its own there. After owning this truck for awhile, I will know how bad it gets, but being in the business, I can tell you that FORD (Found On Road Dead) is not the way to go for reliability. Why do you think they call Explorers Exploders?? Toyota...now that's a different story...
Don't get me wrong, well-maintaned Fords can last awhile. I have a customer with over a million miles on his 2000 F-250 Turbo Diesel (3rd trans, 2nd engine) He maintains it religiously and loves his truck. But yes, don't pull the wool over your eyes, Fords are horribly problematic

You want a tissue?
Must suck to have such major problems with your truck.... Relay went out on your door locks and did you ever fix your power mirrors? Id get rid of it if that happened to me.. "sarcasm"

I've owned 4 F-150s, and only 1 let me down (after a little less than 4 years and 114,000 miles, tho
I had my Papaw's '96 (302 and only 39,000 miles) that I inherited in 2003 that got the chit sideswiped out of it, but before I sent it to the scrap heap, I HADDA turn it over 1 more time
. And that 302 did not let me down, it turned over on the 1st crank...it actually brought me to tears to know that he left me a that well-built and safe product.
Every manufacturer has its ups and downs, but my current truck is about to hit 107,000 and I'm heading to Texas in her next week, not worried at all about comfort, reliability or safety. I honestly couldn't say that about a GM or foreign product. To each his own, though...

144k on the expedition (5.4L) and not a single issue. Only part replaced was alternator.
165k on my last F150 (5.4L) Alternator and radiator developed a small leak
155k on current truck (30k on 5.4L) and no issues other than replacing the engine when I bought it (previous owner did no maintenance)
owned a 98 ranger 4x4 many years ago with the 4.0L, 160k when traded it in. Only thing I ever did was put a new clutch.
I can't complain. None of them ever left me stranded, well... alternator died while driving. Had one delivered, took 15 minutes on the side of the road to replace it and on I went.

Right! I wouldn't offer a tissue.. A sheet of 60 grit perhaps. What can you say, -Fords aren't completely idiot proof. Simple fact.
Not a huge deal, obviously, but at 56k? I mean if you aren't going to listen to people when they give you reasons of why Fords get a bad name, then DON'T ASK. A lot of the horrible conditions of these trucks are due to neglect, but alot of them are just design flaws. I am not gonna flame on the product, just wanted these things I've noticed over the years considered. As far as Chevies and imports, they all have flaws, Ford just has more of them. I mean NO Ford over 100k I have seen lately has needed less than $800 in repairs, and that is not all the driver's fault. Take it as you will, just thought I'd shed some light.
I had a 15 year old Civic with 251k on it, bought it for $1200, and EVERYTHING still worked on it. Every lock, mirror, window, CC, A/C, everything. Got 38 mpg...And I sold it for $2k after driving it for 6 months. This 56k having issues just isn't something I'm used to, but with years in the business, can't say I'm surprised. Don't take it so personal, Toyz.
No car is idiot-proof. Problem is, you don't have to be an idiot to have these issues...just unlucky. I have heard that you don't want a Ford built on a Monday because the line-workers are still hung over from the weekend. Maybe I got a Monday-built ford lol
It's not personal. Not at all. I had just thought by the way you posted your hate for your truck and fords in general that you had experienced some sort of unlucky catastrophic failure with your truck. Only to find some threads you posted regarding door lock actuators and a power mirror that stopped working. Both, I have never experienced in the Expedition and 2 99 F150's I have owned. My parents own a 01 F150, my stepdad an 00 and my uncle an 03. Never heard any of them mention problems with their door locks. It is not a common issue from what I can tell.
I have personally been very satisfied owning a dozen fords in my young life. Not only comparing reliability, but considering I think they ride better and overall feel better to be behind the wheel.
I'm also very surprised at your assumption that you have seen more fords in need of repair vs other trucks. Part of that may be because there are more Fords on the road than Chevy. Statistically, that would contribute to more traffic in a shop. There are probably more Fords getting new tires too. That doesn't mean they have a tire problem.
Also,
Almost every single Honda you find on craigslist anymore has had a new engine or some sort of major repair.
Your experience with your Honda is great, they have no doubt built a decent car. Along with many other cars. You could easily find many people on here with 200k+ Miles on their trucks.. which have seen a lot more abuse than a civic would, that have seen little to no expensive repairs. There are always a handful who experience bad luck with only few miles on their vehicles.
Nothing personal. Just love my Ford, with reason.
