Chevy only trying to outdo Ford? Heheh. I have to laugh...

I looked on Chevy's web site tonight to see what the C3500 has to offer... the truck they compare it to is the F-250 Lariat! Let's see... 1 ton C3500 vs 3/4 ton F-250SD...

For starters, the Ford's price was higher (hmmm... base Chevy vs Lariat F-250SD... hmmm, wonder why the Ford costs more...!) Can't remember other stuff--the comparison didn't even list towing capacity for the F250 (probably because it tows more than the C3500!) Not a fair comparison. Compare the C3500 to an F-350 SD--and the SAME trim level!!!

I sent Shovie a note telling them of their poor comparison...

Cool

Hey mudder,

Wow what an awesome truck you have! It's easy to see why Ford outsells Chevy.

I'm very interested in anyone else's experiences as I have a 6.0. Overall I love the truck. I have concerns as I hear bad noises when it's very cold (below 45F) or when it's been run fast a long time in
the heat of summer. It sounds to me as though I have a main bearing, rod bearing or piston slop noise. Sounds as though it's only 1 cylinder (or 1 main) that's problematic. The noise is very minor but I'm
quite concerned as I have every intention of putting 170K as I've done with my previous trucks. If you've had probelms...How many miles did you have before you had problems? Was/Is the vibration rpm or speed specific (if so what speed/rpm)? I differentiate (speed vs. rpm because some of the
Z71's are having half-shaft and tire problems. I have a 2wd so this doesn't apply to me. Did you have any audible (bad) noise when very cold and/or very hot? Thanks for your time...
Chris

Maybe you can be as helpful to Chris as you have been to us. Want to hear some more?

I have a 99 Z71 that has 20K on it in 10 months. It had rear brake rotors replaced 2 days off the lot.
The tranny has been serviced, re-programmed, new synthetic fluid, new seals, the same for the
transfer case. The brakes still don't stop me while on a bumpy road. teh ABS kicks in and it wont
stop! There is a looseness in the front end-Chevy says bad shock towers-recall/fix on the way. It
shimmies allover the road. I got a real bad truck! I've drive chevies for 30 years, and unless chevy
helps take this one back, there will be no more, and I buy vehicles often. I am waiting to trade my '95
blazer until I see how I get treated. It is by far the nicest, fastest truck I've ever owned, but it's not
worth the headaches. I have lost 8 days of work, my wife has lost 2 for this piece of crap. It still has a
rumble in the driveline.

How about this?

have a z71 ext cab with buckets and 5.3 liter have had no problems of seat shaking or any thing else
having fun beating 5.9 dodges

Seat shaking...what is this?

How about this?

have a 99 z-71 w/a 5.3 vortec engine,I haven't had any problems with it,no noises,no shakes. I
MUST HAVE one of the few good ones.It has 3800 miles

What does he mean when he says "I must have one of the few good ones?"

How about this?

My power bucket drivers seat clunks at times over bumps
and at stop and go traffic, the plastic pillar between
drivers door and front windshield is loose and will not snap into place either. Overall, great truck, but
poor quality interior materials. But, that is what Chevrolet brands are known for. Poor interior parts
and good engines/transmissions.

How about this?

i have a 5.3 extended cab 2wheel dr. i experienc a severe shudder at launch between 1400-1800 rpm.
most noticeable when towing. also, have bad squeek in front end which can be temporarily stopped
with rubber lube shot into shock tower.

How about this?

Go to www.edmunds.com and go into Town Hall, register as a user and do a search on Silverado
vibration. Hundreds of posts there about launch shudder, 60mph vibration, bad steering shafts causing
clunks and clunking rear ends on 99 and 00 Silverado's. Very active forum on this.

How about this?

I have a 99 Chev Silverado ext cab 2 wh drive, with a squeaky front end, squeak and squack, all day
long in the silverado. The dealer played areound with it for four days, and then deceided the frond A
frame assembly had to be rreplaced, that was done, however they only replaced the left side. After
that it still squeak, another two days in the shop, the then replace the right side, after about one day of
driving the sueak is still there. So if you like squeaky you will love the new silverado

Well Mr. Chevy, how does it feel? From now on, every time you flap off your big mouth here, I'm going to go out over the internet and get a bunch more examples of happy Silverado owners who have :

1. Engine noises
2. Vibration
3. Crappy interiors
4. Bad brakes
5. Valve seating problems
6. Tranny problems
7. Bad steering shafts
8. Loose front windshield
9. Bad shock towers

etcetera, etcetera. So why don't you go and find some of your poor Chevy buddies and give them a hand. Just like us Ford guys... they have problems too. So get your head out of the sand, and go help your own buddies and leave us Ford guys to solve our own problems. They are absolutely none of YOUR business. We don't need your sanctimonious (look it up)
BS here!

Nuff said.

P.S. Ya gotta love a good search engine!

I have been in Edmunds Town Hall for about a year, Now the truth can be told about all cars and trucks. There are more posts about the new Chevy trucks mostly like the ones ml listed than any other single vehicle. As far as Squeak99Chevy is concerned, at least he tries to make a point and so far no profanity, I am shocked.

I am just glad I did not buy the Chevy but I like test driving all of them just to see what they are like. I suppose I called the shot on the interior. GM has always made the worst interiors known to man. They finally made them look ok (anyone remember the 88-94 truck interior with the stupid stereo and seperate cassette, what a joke!) but the quality has always been and remains crappy.

Well I have been seeing this tv ad for dodge for the last couple of months now saying they have the longest lasting trucks on the road what bull how many pre 94 dodges do you see on the roads not to many but you see alot more older Fords and Chevys still on the road with a little bit more Fords than Chevys. That just proves Ford number 1 and chevy is 2nd and the big American Joke dodge number 3.

Wow, this thread just got through its first flame war and im proud to say we all handled it well. No BS, unsupported by facts, was said by either side. The whole idea of this thread was no to bag on chevys but to ask why chevy owners talk crap on fords w/o any reason to do so. This flame war could have been a lot worse, in fact i like flame wars until they turn into post of pure bull****.

Some Conclusions:

Dodges really are pieces of ****

Both Chevy and Ford have their share of problems

Tundra, toyota is attempting to brainwash people with this new truck that 'out accelerates every truck in its class' (note* this is only compared to fords and chevys smaller v-8s 4.6,4.8)

Im still glad i have a ford

Yeah, are potential Toyota buyers just stupid? How can Toyota get away with claiming their truck out accelerates every other truck in its class? Aren't the 5.4L V-8 and the 5.3 considered to be in the same class?

I have noticed ONE thing about truck ads lately. They are generally quite misleading. I trust Ford's claims--because they are irrefutable. Pick up any sales brochure from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, or Toyota, and Ford's claims stand up (i.e., most torque etc.)

I consider GM, Dodge, and Toyota to be lying to the American people in an attempt to gain some market share--with Toyota the liar-in-chief. (It's pretty obvious that either Dodge or GM is being misleading--since both claim to be "longest lasting, most dependable, etc."

You will never and have not heard one flame coming from this keyboard. Everything I type on here is to the best of my knowledge and experience. I like all nice looking trucks, even Toyotas and Dodges. ML is very misguided if this is all he can do. One day he will see the error of his way, for every person is not without failure. Same with anything man made. This is the last response you will ever get from me ML. I don't have the time or energy to play your pethetic immature games. Just because I drive a Chevy does not make me your personal whipping boy. If I were a Ford driver and regularly contributed to this board, I'd be embarrased for you. Good luck.

Hope this is over now. Mike you hit it right on the head. Now my biggest question, why do they even come here? One of the great mysteries of the universe. I just want all the of the Chevy posters to know it's nothing personal you're just not wanted here.

Cool

Personally I like a differing viewpoint occasionally. I often frequent the oppositions boards and most of them are civil if you're not stirring. If ya are you are just lookin' to get flamed anyway. I really didn't think sweet99 was flaming. Oh well, just my say in the matter.

Back to the original question,

Why do people talk smack on Fords? For exactly the same reasons people talk smack on Chev. It seems these reasons are always emmotional in nature, rarely ever based on facts and data. It seems mostly to be a matter of insecurity about who we are loyal too. No one wants to find out that the Auto Manufacture we choose to alighn ourselfs with (spend un-godly amounts of money to) may not be the best choice, So we defend to the death our purchase decisions for fear we will be though to be the fool who was soon parted from his money. We continue to patronize those who choose to buy anothers product in order to reinforce our own insecurities about our choices.

We make our choices on past experiences that have comfortable memories. It's easy to stick to something you know best rather than try to learn something different.

Those of us who are open minded and free thinking, know how to identify with all types of differences and know better than to "talk smack" on someone elses choice.

All these trucks have the same amount of pro and con. You choose the one that best suits YOUR needs not mine.
