Exclamation

Even though I work for Ford as a mechanic, I still researched the others. I drove Dodge and Chevy. I talked to the owners and other garages that would deal with them. I heard a lot of dirt on all 3. The Dodge guys liked the Fords, but were sold on the styling of the Dodge, I like it too. The Chevy guys never liked the Ford. They called it every name in the book. I asked what they didn't like about them. All I got was that they were a P.O.S. or the Found Off Road Dead comments. No hard facts. I drove a flareside Chevy. I drove a reg. bed Dodge. All were nice in their own ways. But not that many ways. I drove the Ford. I had no complaints. To boot, a buddys Dodge (that had been giving him trouble since day one) had something BIG go wrong with it. Sick of it he got the Dealer to give him a deal on a new truck. Although another Dodge. People never learn. My Plymouth vans engine went at 88,000. My buddys Sundance engine went at 40,000. He got a Daytona brand new. Wound up 6 months later with a new Mustang. Something major went wrong with the car and the Dealer offered him the Mustang. Something about the frame and unsafe to drive. I've heard Dodges customer service is pretty poor also. Chevy, well all I had to do is think of all the used ones we have on our lot that I worked on. Tired and beat around 60,000 some are. The nice flareside we had I was looking at, the master cylinder is shot. All our S-10 Blazers have check engine lights on. The construction quality just doesn't seem to last. I will admit, new all 3 are beautiful. But catch these with 60,000 and see who's still going strong with the least amount of trouble. Truck of the year is only something you should pay attention to if your gonna lease for 2 years.

First off, I will say that Ford produces the best truck - bar none.

With that said, why do Chevy's have higher resale values? Supply & Demand (more Fords on the road?)

I haven't personally been shopping for a Chevy but... I have heard some stats and talked with some friends (?honest? Chevy fans.)

Cool

Perhaps the reason "people talk smack on Fords" is because:
a) "Found On Road Dead" is cute.
b) They're tired of Ford people talking smack about their ride (no matter how deserving it is )

My Father-in-Law (Chevy person) has a baseball cap that reads "I'd rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford". When his daughter (my wife) told him about her new truck (see signature) he asked, "Where did I go wrong?"

Now he complains that his 454 V-8 doesn't get the mileage that our 413 V-10 does

I have a son-in-law with a 1985 Dodge that has 157000 miles. The engine has never been opened and the transmission has only had fluid changes every 30000. Uses a quart of oil every 1500 miles. It has never failed to start and never left him stranded. He takes excellent care of the vehicle, oil changes, tune ups, & etc.
Have another son-in-law that has a 1995 Dodge that just turned 107000. only repair has been to replace a wheel bearing. He to, takes excellent care of the vehicle.
I guess if I take good care of my F150 I should be able to drive it 1,000,000 miles since Fords are so much better than Dodges.

Thumbs up

I only have one thing to say.In our contracting comany we had 78 chevy C30.It was a real junk box.We have since new a 80F150,80F350,85F250,86F250 with I6,400,351h.o.,351h.o. all have c6 auto,s.They all still run strong. They are alway,s over loaded and used for snow plowing. These are real work horses.I have seen a lot of chevy.s,dodges come and go plowing but the old fords keep on going.AS that toyota T100 or tundra fullsize having the best quality.I would burn them out in one witer plowing.I have a 99 F350 s.c. v10 auto very nice truck but it has a few recall,s that we never had with any of the old trucks. Its still the best truck made.I am waiting for one of the four to be found on road dead I dont think so.Old FORDS FOREVER

Dang, lots of responses.

I've been away from the board for awhile and I posted this last time I was on. Some thoughts on what's been said.

Chevy owners have no real answers

Dodge owners are good people and don't talk the smack Chevy owners do because they choose not to look like jack asses

And f-150 are fine pieces of Machinery

Update on my truck, im up to 1,300 miles on it and starting to have a little more fun with it after the break in period. Put a Calvin pissing on the chevy symbol on the back window. And not getting any crap anymore from Chevy owners. Soon I hope to superchip and then I'll start racing, leaving POS chevy's struggling to get off the line before the light turns yellow.

I am a long-time Chevy owner. Had three different Chevy's and never had any major problems. My last was a '91 Siverado w/133k
when I sold it. I can't complain about
my Chevy's. But I bought my 99 Lariat because
#1 - it cost less ($2-3K) for a similar equipped Chevy and I have several friends that have (or have had) Fords and they seem very satisfied. I like Ford's styling on the new trucks also. My only concern is over the long haul. All my Chevys had 100k + when I sold them and other than regular maintenance items (well my 91 seem to go through batteries like a kids toy) never had any problems. I just want my Ford to last
like that. It is a joy to drive and I get a
lot of postive comments (even my Chevy owner friends) on the way it looks. I tend to keep
my vehicles at least 6-8years and the long haul is what I'm looking for. Wish I had the money to buy a new one every two or three years but unfortunately, I live under that "baby needs new shoes" syndrome. I have about 2.5k on it and only time will tell how
it lasts. Hope Ford Motor has a long lasting vehicle and converts me to a "long-time" Ford Owner. But at this point I just can't badmouth Chevys. BTW, I never even looked at Dodges or Riceburners when I was shopping, Just Chevys and Fords (had heard too many complaints from former owners to consider them.

Well, I just got out of a 98 Z71 and I can't speak too ill of it. It sure did have a ton of rattles and my tranfer case was making lots of funny noises, but it never let me down. And I liked the engine/transmission combo a little more than my new Ford and much more than the new Chevy's. I can't understand why Chevy went with an engine that has to wind-up to build torque. That just doesn't seem right for a truck.

Maybe I just need to drop a 350 in my Ford.

I work with several Dodge and Chevy fans. It seems misterious to me that when one of them breaks they would rather pay a tow truck than to let me pull them for free with my Ford.

I'm 30 now and have owned only one Chevy truck since I was 16 (the rest have been Fords). It left me walking on the interstate one summer during a terrible storm. I quickly dumped it and have been proud of my Ford every since.

By the way, has anyone every noticed how many Chevy race fans drive imports? Seems strange to me to support something you wouldn't own.

I guess one of the main Reasons why I don't want a chevy's is becuase. I would get tired of replacing the Alternator. Chevy's have a BIG habit of eating alternators....

Why do people talk smack on Fords? Well let's all take a look.

1) piston slap!
2) door cracks
3) roof drip rail cracks
4) 4R70W used in the 4.2 "grocery getter" AND the much much stronger 5.4 "Chevy getter"!?!
5) leaky automatic - 4R70W
6) leaking sliding rear window

Looking at this you would think I would never buy one, but I did. All automobiles have their fare share of problems, my largest concerns are piston slap (repaired around April 15 1999?) and the durability of the rather small 4R70W.

I like how Ford touts the E4OD in the "Partners in Performance" section of their 1999 catalog, that would be real nice if it were AVAILABLE to us.....nice touch Ford. That was a poor choice to make us think we were getting something we couldn't, I'll know better next time.....if there is a next time.
