I have to have the worst luck in the world... Theres a magnet inside my engine!!!

Ok so one of my spark plugs blew out when I was changing it my dumb a** dropped a socket inside my engine yes inside. So I went to autozone bought two of their magnets and while trying to get the socket out the magnet broke!!! I used a cloths hanger to secure the other magnet so it wouldnt brake and I got the socket out but Im having no luck with the other magnet. Its a really tiny magnet. What shuld I do? If i leave it in there im hoping theres a chance where it wont damage everything but if it does how much im I looking at as far as repairs? new head? if I take it to some one to take the engine apart it will cost almost the same. and I really dont trust mechanics.

If it's not in the combustion chamber but rather outside, leave it. If it was anywhere the air of the engine gets sucked in, then remove it.

so it's not inside the motor, it's just outside the motor where you can't reach it....

leave it alone and hope it falls out someplace while driving the truck

I'm thinking it fell into the valley of death. If so, I would leave it. Or remove the alternator and try and get to it.

Then again, I dunno. Sounds like maybe he was repairing a blown plug? Depends where you put the comma's. He may have dropped something down the cylinder..... which would be a whole other story. It has to come out if that is the case.

Find a stronger magnet that your sure is secure to something so you don't lose another one and try to get it out with that. A good rare earth magnet should be stronger than that one and should grab it off.

Don't try to run the motor with that in there though. It'll get smacked between the piston and head damaging both. I don't think that is small enough to pass through an open valve, especially since its a magnet and will stick to the valve.

If you can't figure out a way to retrieve it then you'll have to remove the head to get at it.

Best of luck man,

- Erik

CAREFULLY watch inside the cylinder and have someone SLOWLY turn the motor by hand until the piston is as close as you can get to the top and see if that helps? then try another magnet?

You could turn the engine over by hand very carefully just enough to bring the piston up so the magnet is closer to the spark plug hole. Just do not rotate it to far and break it into more smaller pieces.

Good luck!

Earlier you said " lower intake"

Where did the socket fall, inside the plug well where the plug came out? Or somewhere else.
