Remote oil filter

Can anyone recommend an oil filter relocation kit? I am sick and tired of parking my truck on a sheet of plastic for days after I change the oil and filter! I guess the Ford engineers are probably still laughing their a**es off about how they pulled this practical joke off on their customers. Also, any pros and cons about installing this kit would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Jegs/summit have kits you can get. your local auto parts store should be able to piece one together for you too.

pro: added capacity, ability to run dual filters if you wish

con: possibilities for damaged lines.

Thanks, Klitch. I did a search and looks like no problem. I assume by "line damage", you're refering to where the lines are routed ?

I haven't changed the oil on my truck yet, but on my Mustang, I used aluminum foil to keep oil from getting on everything.

yes, by line damage i mean depending on where you route the hydraulic hoses, there may be a potential for damage. for example, go 4x4ing and a stick punctures a hose. hard to do but there is the potential.

There are many options out there that will allow you to go as cheap or elaborate as you like. If money is no object, the absolute nicest kit out there is the Amsoil by-pass remote kit. It's overkill for a gas motor, but you sure do get a whole heapin lot of cool points. As mentioned, Summit and Jeggs will have ready to go kits that are complete and probably under $100. I pieced mine together because I couldn't find the high quality parts I wanted in a kit. My filter mount is a billet frm a solid, single piece, and it alone was $150. But, when you see he quality and material in most of these kits, it'll explain why I wanted better.

I also splurged and used all -10 braided stainless hoses and AN fittings. Looks killer, will never leak, no worry about damage, and can be removed an reinstalled. But I have a little over $200 just in hose.

Bigger filter is also a huge plus. With almost any remote kit, you will no longer run an FL 820S type filter. These kits come with 3/4 X 16 threads for us Ford guys. This means an FL-1A type filter. I use an Amsoil EaO26. It's a Ford filter (3/4 x 16 thread) and it's huge. My filter alone holds 1.2 full quarts of oil!!! There is no such thing as a down side to increased oil capacity...except you have to buy more oil

Just get a can of brake clean and spray everything down after dropping the filter.

i bought my 97 with one on it already. who ever did mine mounted the filter on the back side of the bumper on the driver side and ran the flexable steel lines along the frame. i drive gravel roads, through corn stalks and truck trails and have never had a problem.

Ford did it - comes that way from the factory on the 97-98's. Not sure about the 99's

Galaxy has a nice set up.

They must have quit using them in 2000 or 01. I know for sure that the 01's didn't have them. I absolutely disliked changing the oil in the 01, what a freakin mess. It was a PITA to clean up - Yea , brake clean and compressed air

The 98 4.2L didn't have one either. That was a PITA as well, but I let my daughter handle that one

I let her... - I freakin made her do it - Her truck!

Is that a kit galaxy, or a DIY piece together?
Looks good.

I can get to your gallery using any browser. Not sure why you cant? Last week I grabbed all my pics out of my old galleries and I had about 500 pics

Took awhile, but I got em on disk now, just in case.

I have yours opened up now on another computer (mac) using Safari. Thinking about a dif cover. While your here, how many quarts in the rear w/the Mag-Hytec? 4 vrs 3? Looks like it will hold 4 ?

I like their tranny pans as well. But I can't find the quantity increase. - That's the bonus I'm after.
