I remember long ago - not sure what car I was changing the oil on , but the filter was on there so tight , the filter wrench twisted the end of it. I had to spear a big crows foot into the filter to get it off
I don't think I put that one on - I may have

) so i had to call the Chevy dealer and ask where the hell is the damn thing (hence gm puts so much crap under the hood) the dealer said its on the passenger side 1/2 way up the block so to get it off you reach through the belt under the alt through some wires and turn your wrist and now you got it (you cant get any tools up there) and it was on so tight i took an alligator belt and wrapped it around and pulled... 10 min and flying tools later its off and what a shot in the dark to put the new one on after that i will never work on a Chevy again
oh ya my 22 hp brigs and stratton motor in the lawnmower has a bigger oil filter than that Chevy

take a look
just throw away the oil filter wrench
i can tell yah i got years of oil changes gone bad from dealers that wrenched em on hard just made the gaskete fail for no reason if you need a wrench or screwdriver to get it off it wasn't installed right hand tight with oil on gaskete is the best
You will probably need a wrench to crack it loose even if it was installed hand tight - but excessive force will not be needed, a strap wrench should crack it without crushing the filter. The gasket will stick somewhat due to heat.
Well just to give some feedback. After reading this thread I realized that the noise I was hearing at start-up may be due to the cheap-o oil filter i was running (Napa). So I did an oil change a little while back and no longer hear anything. I went with the Motorcraft oil filter and have zero noises and its way smotther sounding on a cold start-up. Thanks for all prior input! I will never go back to ANYTHING napa or Fram!

thats strange i 've not seen one of those
