Post Changing oil filter help

How in the devil do you get to the oil filter to change it? Neatly? I have a '99 F150 XLT Flareside 4x4 (Electronic), with the 4.6 and automatic. I can just barely see the filter. Not like my Dad's 4x2 (Only difference). His is easy to see and get to, mounted vertically, so no mess. Mine is mounted horizontally, I see nothing but problems here. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Barrett

I have a 99 5.4l and my oil filter is in the bumper this makes it a lot easer to do, But my friend has the same truck just different color and his is mounter to the engine the only differende is that mine was made in K.C and his was made in canada. I don't think this should matter but it is the only thing that we can think of. Where was your truck made..

I went through a drive-thru oil change place last Sunday. They had me turn my wheels fully to the right so the guy in the pit could get to the filter on my 5.4.

Marv1 is correct, the wheels need to be turned to the right. One note of interest: After the filter is removed, oil will drain down onto a plate (acting like a trough or gutter). This plate is located directly below the filter and serves to guide the draining oil away from the steering linkage. However, oil will drain off to the front AND rear of the plate. Insure your used oil recovery pan is positioned correctly to catch the draining oil off of both ends.

Good Luck

On my '98 4X4 the oil filter was in the bumper on the drivers side. Did they move it?
