ok im going back to what i read from someones post about it being "mod" motor... because they change out a few tools / part in the block foundary process that should leave the dust shield to have to cover the same exact form/pattern?

Well, YOU can't. But he's not switching trannys, he's switching motors. If you have a 70 in your truck and you want to upgrade to the 100, that's a bitch. But if you have a motor that had a 100 behind it, and you want to put that in a truck with a 70 that was already in the truck to start with, that's no big deal.

As far as the bolts that go through the tranny and into the block to hold the tranny on, those are the same on all the 4.6's and 5.4's. They wouldn't make a completely different engine block just to use a different tranny, that's just silly.

The dust shield doesn't have anything to do with the motor, rather it has everything to do with the tranny and the tranny's bell housing.

i know. but it has to fit the same thing! the 5.4 and 4.6 were made the same correct? so in my theory, the tired man theory, the 4.6 and 5.4 dust shields should be the same.

I don't think you were wrong so much as you guys were talking about 2 different things, didn't realize it, and s^^t was getting pear shaped.

Glad I caught it though. Who knows what he would have done tomorrow to try and fix this imaginary problem! LOL

They'll fit on the outside, where the bolts go through, but I am not sure about the middle. You'll see what I mean when you get a closer look at it behind the flex-plate. It should butt up right under the crank. The dimensions on the block where the crank exits are a little different. The iron around the crank that holds the main seal in is bigger on the 5.4.

If it doesn't fit, you could easily make it fit.
