Will a V 10 fit my F150?

Does any body know absolutely yes or no if my 97 f150 4wd will swallow a v10 in the engine bay without firewall mods? My 4.6 windsor is on its last legs and i may have found a v10 with computer and trans to drop in. I know the weight of the v10 is more than the front can handle stock but i can solve that problem when i get to it. I need to know if the motor mounts are in the correct location for a drop in replacement or if i will have to fab some up. thanks for any and all help. Yes i tried searching and came up with nada.

Doubt it. At the very least you'll need new motor mounts, front crossmember, trans. mount and crossmember, fan $ radiator mounts. It may even be too wide to go between to shock mounts.

s1037s,

I am not sure what exactly what would need to be changed. I'm sure the motor mounts for one would need to, but Neal "The HP Freak" has a very well viewed thread here in the Engine forum and he mentioned the possiblilty of dropping a V10 in his truck. I am not sure what year his is but I think that it is a '99. You might want to touch base with him or maybe JMC would know.

Good luck.

HI!... Not sure about a 4x4 due to oil pan restrictions but it will fit in a 4x2. You HAVE to run electric fans and move the rad forward a bit. A 6.8L is the same as a 5.4 but with two added cylinders. Overall dimensions are the same except for the length.

forgot to ask...will it bolt to my trans(auto) 1997. yeah i know it will soon destroy it. the donor comes with a 4r100 but i think id have to put in a 3 inch body lift to clear it.

stock the 5.4L block is 330ci so 415 damn haha. its most likely posible to do though. I would probably upgrade the transmission. I dont know what transmission is behind the V10 though but usually its a tougher heavy duty one.

HI!... The 4R-100 is used in the LIGHTNING, so it will fit under your truck and in the trans tunnel. The 4.6/5.4 and 6.8 have the same trans/block bolt pattern.

V-10 Swap I think the hardest part of this swap would be the wiring...but it would be sweeeeeeet to have a F-150 with a V-10 emblem on the fender

I came soooooooo close to swapping a V10 for the 4.6. The engine I had ligned up was only $1200.00 CDN. But it had sat outside for 2 years without a cover. No telling what might have crawled up into the intake. I am now officially kicking myself in the **** for passing on this option. I ended up setteling for a 5.4 instead. If you stick the 7700 t-bars on the a-arms it should support the extra weight of the V10. That is untill you get the SFA swap done. Rancho 9000s set on stiff should keep it headed where you point it.

I'm assuming you have the 4R70w, which I wouldn't waste time with on a 6.8L. The 4R100 will go b/c these trucks did come with them.
