Who is in the 100,000 mile club?
This is for those who have not been following my engine build post.
When I started this post in December of 2002 I had 130,000 miles on my motor. I ran it hard and worked it hard. Sometimes loading it to the bump stops and frequently towing very heavy trailers (5000 lbs average). I figured the engine was getting close to its end. Then last August I supercharged the engine and eventually was hitting 10 lbs boost at times. I developed an intake gasket leak and fixed it. I developed the leak again and thought it was a head gasket leak.....so.. I built a new Forged Long Block and installed it in the truck. The engine had 190,000+ miles on it when pulled.
Yesterday I pulled the heads off the old block and found the cross hatch was still easily visible on the cylinder walls. Here's a picture

It was starting to polish at the top and bottom but most of it is not much different then when new. This just amazes me. It looks to me like this engine could have easily had another 50,000 miles left in it. If I had re-ringed and put in new bearings, it could have been much more. Well the old block went to the dump for recycling today
For those of you with high mileage engines who might be worried about it, don't. Just keep good oil in it and enjoy...

Hey all,
Man, I think this thread started over a year or more ago, which is about when I stopped coming to this discussion page on a regular basis. My '98 2wd Lariat SuperCab 4.6 5-sp has 114k on it and shows no signs of quitting any time soon. I've spent very little on maintenance on it. I've put a starter on it and done 2 spark plug changes (the first @ 98k with Bosch Platinums), then just 2 weeks ago with Autolites after driving for over 9 months with a misfire Engine light from the Bosch's. It's still on the original clutch as far as I know (I'm the second owner and have had the truck since 60k), the original belts and hoses, and I don't even think the brakes have ever been touched. I did replace the original battery last year. In four years I haven't even burned out a bulb. It really bugged me when I started getting close to 100k, but now I think I've finally come to realize that 100k is just another number, it's not the kiss of death. Like someone said, keep the oil changed and the basic maintenance done (like I haven't even done very well), give it a new battery and new tires from time to time, wash it once in a while, and it oughta go indefinitely. Without reading all 603 posts of this thread, can somebody tell me who has the current mileage record? Just curious.
