Clarion Sub Install.. How to with pics..
Dude (Rock),
Just plug the RCA's from your head unit into the back of the sub. Then, run plus and minus 12 volts to the sub to power it. Lastly, connect the remote turn on wire from HU (blue wire) into blue wire on sub, DONE. It's that easy!! Enjoy your new subwoofer!!
But if you want the really technical version, NO, you are wrong. Actually, the RCA cables will actually pick up more noise than the speaker level outputs will. It's just the nature of the signals. The RCA's carry low voltage and no wattage, making them suseptable to noise. The speaker line outs carry voltage and high amperage wich helps keep out noise. BUT, in your case, you will run the RCA's about a total of 2 feet, from the HU to the sub just below it. Noise is NOT going to be a problem. In fact, it rarely is a problem anyway, just thought it's worth a brief explanation. Now with all that said, you will generally get better sound out of the RCA's becuase there is no processing needed to be done on the signal, just amplify it. The speaker level inputs must be converted to a line signal, and then amplified. But all this stuff is done in the amplifier and you don't and shouldn't be worried about any of it. Just plug in the RCA's and be done with it.
Besides, I don't even know what I'm talking about anyway!!!

Thanks CCarrara. That hit the nail on the head with my question.
I really appreciate it. I'm going to install it tonight but, as I've mentioned, it's going to be temporary as the paint is already ordered to paint this little sucker.
THANKS AGAIN!

Line level inputs are NOT as good as RCA inputs. Line level inputs carry more noise than RCA's, despite what CCarrara says. I have been into car and home audio for years and I am an electrical engineer. Why would the best amplifiers have RCA's rather than line level inputs if what CCarrara says is true? Just a point. I won't get into the electrical characteristics. You'll just have to trust me. You won't notice a difference whichever way you install it. I would go with whatever way is easiest for you. I just did the line level install until I can get some more RCA's run in my truck, so I would say that the t-harness is the quickest.
Roger that...
I'm done with the install and I'm fairly happy with the results. I've run all the wires and spliced where needed. Now, if the paint will hurry up and get here, I can knock this sucker out and be done with it.
As many have said, if you're looking for a thunderous boom, this isn't the sub for you. If you're looking for some nice bass accent to the crappy factory speakers, this is what you're looking for. I'm pretty impressed with the sound that this sucker puts out but, it's far from a pair of 10" or even a single, high powered 8" sub.
To sum it up, this is EXACTLY what I wanted. Too bad the color match sucks. I have ordered paint from paintscratch.com and hopefully, it'll be in before the end of the week so that I can finalize everything and mount it. In the meantime, it's riding in the passenger floorboard for a quick disconnect for a paint job.
Thanks to everyone that's contributed to this thread and to the other Clarion Sub thread. The information has been EXCELLENT!

Dfunnel,
If you read my post closely, I said that Line Level is BETTER than speaker level. And that, is why amps come with and the preferred method for connecting is, live level (aka, RCA). However, a HUGE mis-conception is that, and you (being an electrical engineer?) should understand, line level is "cleaner" than speaker level. And the truth is, NOT. And again, it is due to the low wattage and voltage on the line level. And that, is why all the new HU's are advertising a 5 volt line level output now. The 5 volt (stronger signal) makes it less suceptable to noise. A secondary benifit you get from the higher level line levels available today is of coarse, higher volume. But, that was not why the higher voltage outputs were desinged, they were desinged to cut back on, you guessed it, noise problems with line level inputs/outputs.
And again, as I said above, in this case and in MOST cases, the RCA line level outputs are the better choice, because noise is rarely a problem anyway.

Oh, and almost forgot. I took a look at my unit again at lunch today to check on the color match. Mine matches 100%, my carpet. It is the EXACT shade as my carpet.
So I still don't get you guys and the painting thing? What color lipstick do you guys were?

What color lipstick? God, it's folks with comments like those that make people stay away...
It's plain and simple CC, we want it to match the dash... not the carpet, not our dogs fur, not the underbody, not our grandmother's underwear... we want it to match the dash. Jesus. How hard is that to understand?!?
Anyways...
Bigger fish to fry...

Yep, that's what I thought, my mistake!!! I didn't realize I was discussing this with woman!!
Argueing? Who's arguing, I just stated that the unit matches my carpet, that's all!! I didn't say what you were trying to match, I didnt' say your all idiots for painting or something, I just made a funny crack involving lipstick and colors which you guys seem to be VERY sensitive about!! LOL!! Easy does it fellas!!
PS - Maybiline also sells a line of tans in eyeliner!!

Do you think you can try to not crap all over this or any other post anymore.. Not trying to run you off, just asking that you be a little less abrasive..

Hey Carbenerra !!
What was that about ...... ??? I guess anyone with a computer/ modem can rant and rave till they're delirious. Safer than having them driving on the roads in a rage.
Sounds like it's time to close this thread ......??
