Clarion Sub Install.. How to with pics..
To each his own...
If you look at the pics, it is not severely modified and if you also thought about what you were saying, just who do you think is going to buy this subwoofer (supposing I sell it)??? Probably another F-150 owner that would have to do the same thing. You forget the sub was not fitted/designed for anything past 2000 models, the 2002's have a slightly larger cup holder..
And an ash tray costs more than $6 in these new trucks...
Just like you said, you did it the easy way, I did it right... I will always try to modify the new piece to fit, not modify things to fit the new piece - granted there are excpetions, but this isn't one of them. Sticking an amp inside the rear side is another story... Just my .02..
Thanks for the comments..

Wiring
Hey ReelWork,
Do you have the Premium stereo? The Crutchfield site says that they don't have the harness for the Premium unit. Just wondering what the difference is. Maybe the separate 6 disc changer wiring would make mine more difficult? I'll probably do it anyway though...Thanks.

Jim,
No, I don't think I do have the premium and I also do not have the CD-changer.. There are pics of my HU and if you do a search, I seem to remember somebody already doing the how-to with the prem. stereo.. Try a search and see what you get - I can't remember when or the search term either. Sorry!!!

Hi all,
It looks on UPS tracking that my tan sub is sitting on my portch at home! I can't wait to get off work and go home. I should be able to find time tonight to install it for the most part. I don't have a digital camera but will tell you if my install is any different with the 6 disk changer. I think it will be the same because the changer shouldnt use the same harness as the stereo. It should use a sub input jack. We'll see.

The color match on the tan is worse than the grey. When I first opened the box I thought it was a grey one. Luckily I have some paint for the interior of my truck so I will be painting it to match. Did they change the tan color of the interior between the 2000 and 2001 model years? I remember a dark and medium parchment interior, but I never saw the dark. That's what I would call this color, and of course my 2001 King Ranch is medium parchment. By the way, I got my interior paint from paintscratch.com.
Got a question for ya...
Look at the model # and what does it say? If it ends with a "LG" then you got the gray.. I don't know what the tan is but I would assume it is a "T" for tan or "B" for brown...
Alright, I just checked Crutchfield, and here's the scoop....
020FF150LG is the number for the Gray...
020FF150T is the number for the Tan...
Hope this helps,

I posted some new pics last night!

Yeah,
I installed it last night. Took me about an hour box to boom including the shaving. I agree with modifying the box and not the cupholder. Chances are when I sell my truck the next person may not want the box. Here are my thoughts on the install:
1) I took off the front levels and replaced them with the larger L-Brackets that came for the back of the sub. I screwed in the screw to the 2nd hole in the long end. This lifted the sub perfectly and I didn't have to mess with the leveling screws.
2) I also used "Zip" ties that had a screw hole built into them. I removed the two screws at the back of the sub that hold on the screen and put them through the ties.
3) On the groundwire I simply unscrewed one of the chassis mounting bolts behind the black plastic cover. Then I held the ground in there while I tightened.
3) Everything else worked out fine. I followed the instructions to a T.
I am amazed by the quality of the sound for a small amp/woofer combo. The color is not exact but I think it looks more like the armrests on the door. I like the difference and think that mine is negligible.

The paint code is on the order form as medium parchment interior when you choose your truck's model and year. The part number is FA812OI. It matches great too. I just painted the sub last night, and it turned out very good. Don't forget to get the flex agent put in it as well. I will probably put another coat on it tonight and maybe install it tomorrow.
well guys.....
Whaddya think of it?
I'll tell you one thing that I have found if you didn't know already. It runs off the rear channel..
So, if you are like me and put the fader a little to the rear, it will be much boomier.. I didn't like this so I now set the fade to right down the middle and it balanced it right out! just FYI...
Well, let's hear it!
