Stuff is Arriving!
you know... on the 2008's they changed up those vents. the changes:
1) they made the longer. if you would imagine yours with about another half of yours added on. thats how big they are now.
2) they made them thinner. i can slip mine in and out without breaking them at all.
i did notice that the fluttering is not ANYWHERE near what it used to be on my 2005.
What i did to stop them from fluttering.... i put a sheet doubled over on itself across the whole back wall. the sheet causes enough resistance to slow the air going out that it will eliminate fluttering. but will allow the pressure in the cab to slowly weep out so you dont have problems with pressurizing.

I did both sides; with a big enough substage those vents just flutter and make an anoying **** sounds.
In my reg. cab. I noticed a huge difference in road noise entering the vehicle too...a lot of noise gets in through those vents.
I would love to take both out, but if the doors are gonna be a pain to close and if i run into pressurization problems at elevation (i drive over a 6000 ft grade to the ranch at least 10 times a year) then i'll only do 1.
The plan is to replace them with sheetmetal and cover them with 3 layers of Raamat.
I really dont remember what they closed like before...but my door seems to always close, none of that 'halfway, one latch' type thing all doors do if you dont close them hard enough.
I DO notice it with the blower fan on higher settings though. I can hear air escaping out the door seal or windown or somewhere at the top back of my door. I also noticed just the other day when I had the defogger on full blast, then cracked a window that it seemed the air output kicked up a notch or something...I could just hear a difference in the air blowing out.
I can hardly believe that these cabs are sealed up enough that those vents will actually change things that much. Honestly for me though I dont mind it. My blower is on the number 1 position about 95 percent of the time, and I have my windows down as often as possible. The small drawbacks (if I can even call them that) are no where close to the benifits to me.
I havent experienced any ear popping or anything like that that I can recall, but as I said, I RARELY have the windows up with the blower motor going full speed.
Maybe try ductaping them up real good for a few days before you do it for good....see what it does for you.

Yeah, i dont know if i can do that though because im pretty sure im going to have to destroy them to get them out. We'll see. I never have the fan higher than 2 or 3 bars out of 6 so that doesnt worry me. The elevation driving does though. We'll see how it works out.
its fine, im not butthurt. 90% of DIYers use Raamat, its works perfect (especially since this isnt a "SERIOUS professional installation"). D-pro is higher quality no doubt, but the Raamat is easier to work with and with double layers its thicker than the D-pro.
And since i have used both and you havent, i'll tell you this: the only real difference is the thickness. As long as you're not an idiot, the Raamat doesnt get messy.
And believe me, if i had tons of money to spare, i would use pure D-pro. Its great stuff.

msall, I took that rug type thing(not sure what its called) off the back wall when i did my subs and stuff. Do you think putting a layer of raamat on the back wall would be a good idea? I get a good bit of road noise and hear creeks and noises all the time.

Yesterday I went to close my door and damn near missed the door when I went to slam it, just tapped it a little bit and it went closed very very slowly and not hard at all, and it still closed all the way. Half the vehicles that I close the doors in that easy and slow wont even latch all the way, so after that I would say that its not any harder to close the doors. Well, maybe, but its still dang easy to close them.
I'd also close up the vents like Bartak showed, i'll be doing that today or tomorrow.
Any word on those BM's yet? The money is burning a hole in my pocket... My ghetto fabulous box is ok for now but getting annoying with the little one.
On a side note, I left both vents on mine open and even though Im not "hittin dem db's", I havent heard one bit of noise from them. I did however eDead the whole back wall besides them with two layers. Roof is next.
Keep the install coming, it looks to be a really nice setup coming along.

It was kind of a PITA since i have the rear slider window, that motor is smack in the middle of the rear wall and takes up a lot of space. So im mounting one amp on each side of the middle sea belt bracket. Unfortunately my drill is weaksauce and couldn't drill through the sheetmetal on the rear wall, my buddy is gonna let me use his corded beast tomorrow, so I should have the amps mounted. My kicker wiring kit STILL isnt here yet. So i STILL cannot finish. Bleh.
This chick i know has my camera, im getting it back tomorrow so updated pictures will be posted tomorrow.
Tom the only thing i know about the BMs is that its going to be about another month until they order them, then another month for building, then they ship in mass and take a few weeks. Im anticipating about 3 months until arrival.

EDIT: the deh-p880prs got here today. Its slick, and im stoked. I'll swap it in once i get the IDs installed.
