Project Survival Truck
how about a solar power shower bag, i've also seen swamp buggies with preasurised water tanks. have you considered towing a small utility trailer or a pop up camper? jc whitney has a blow up mattress that fits in side the bed of the truck.

My advice..... for a all around apocalypse vehicle.
1999-2003 F-350 12 valve cummins with a zf6.
Why no electronics. dead reliable. can run on almost anything. and the front end of the 99-03 F-350 is bullet proof. run 35 inch tires and a 6 inch lift. and a simple set of towing twins with matched injectors and you have a truck that will run when the batteries die. get 18+ mpg and good luck getting it stuck.

Man i havent been on this forum in a while. Just saw this, and ive always wanted to do something like this. And always wanted something to happen so i could use it. Though i agree with go diesel and go 1 ton truck, you can make use of the f150's lighter wieght and make it quick and nimble. IMO go with around 9-10" of lift. All springs and coilovers, no blocks. Keep bumpstops as high as possible. Main thing here is flex. With that said, i wouldnt go higher than a 38 tire, as wide as you can possibly get too. Knobby tires. Like pirella jones dirt grips. Insane. Go witb cheap steel wheels for durability as well.
not trying to start anything but im with the others. dont see a point unless it 4x4 for survival. part of survival is not being stranded. what happens if you in a place where a winch if you wanted one would not work because you dont have a place to hook it. then what. there are alot of things that can get you unstuck but for the cost of all those items......HELLLLOOOOO.....4x4 just seems logical to me. I garuntee if you lock a 2wd truck and leave a 4x4 open or even ls like most ford 4x4s, with the right driver anyway, you will go alot further in the 4x4 then the 2wd. BUt i also agree with a previous poster that you want smaller agile vehicle that not only can go anywhere but can fit anywhere to. Cuz it doesnt sound like your going to be built to just mow down everything in your way and if you can go around it or fit through it then what???
food for thought......
my zombie killer.......

and believe me it aint no slouch. built, locked, and soon to be caged.
o and btw im also a 88m active duty and have been wheeling for more the 12 years. may not be that long compared to some of you, but im by no means new to this..been there done that more then twice.

i just read through most of this thread and very interested in to where this truck has gotten....it kinda has gotten me thinkin about a survival plan/kit for rapid relocation. I dont think i would make a specific vehicle for it but at least a ready-to-go kit, supplies and a plan of action. A total apocalypse or zombies are pretty far fetched IMHO but a natural disaster or a wierd viral outbreak is somewhat feezable and we all should have some sort of plan of action.
Recently I'm sure as most of you know, The southwest area had a huge blackout for something like 10 hours or so and people LOST THEIR MINDS! People were scrambling to the grocery store to get ice, water, and food. It made me think of the OP. He is getting ready for the end of the world! At least he wont look like a suburbian maniac like I saw during the blackout haha cheers to you man. Good luck. Lets see some pics!

a slight delay...
there's been some awesome advice here, which is why i posted. If i ever win the lottery, I'll be doing something completely different, that's for sure. I'm dealing with some real world constraints, though - i have one truck, and that's it.
a design goal is that whatever the truck winds up being, it must remain a daily driver- IMHO, WTSHTF could come without warning, and the awesomest 4x4 on earth is useless if you are not in it when it's time to go.
this whole thing has been seriously delayed because I've been ill and broke. between losing (so far) the argument with the VA and being out of work, the truck has been sidelined. if and when it comes back up, I'll be back here.
FYI, i did put the Wrangler Kevlar MT/R's on it, and holy cow! what a difference they made! not sure I'll even need a locker or LS with those, let alone 4x4. those are true death-grip tires!
(still going the locker route, though. eventually).
