I have a lid that overhangs the tailgate and I still lock my tailgate.

Tail gates being stolen has never been a issue really in AZ. So I never lock mine. I consider locking a tailgate on a truck with nothing in the bed like locking a convertible with all the windows down.

Thanks for the info. I might give it a try this summer. I read your information and going to save it. I'm going to take a look at my tailgate and see how it works. Those are great pics but I have to look at my tailgate.

Yep, I keep it locked because they are easy to steal and there have been several fences busted for that around here.

I keep mine locked... Why not? As they say, "A second of prevention, saves an hour of looking for the bastard..."

I always keep mine locked and I've got 2 heavy duty zip ties on the passenger side hinge. I read on here somewhere that it'll cost close to $1000 to get the gate replaced and there's no way I wanna take that chance.

Locked, if it eliminates one more thing or hinders theft even more, hell, I'm in. I don't need any yoda guy's trying to take a tailgate in great shape!!! It's a obsessive compulsive thing to lock it, but why ruin a good streak if it doesn't hurt anything.

Locked. I have a soft tonneau cover and the only thing under it is an ice scraper. But I'd hate to pop open my tailgate on a cold Cleveland day to find someone stole my scraper!

People steal tailgates? I'd never heard such a thing! I'll definately be keeping mine locked in the future for that reason alone.

I ALWAYS keep mine locked. Too easy to steal. Why take a chance. Besides, nobody can throw a dead cat in my bed if it's locked!!!!!

I keep mine locked also. The Roll n Lock I got put on prevents you from opening the tailgate when it is locked, but heck 2 are better than one IMOP.
