i gotta lock mine... kids at my school think its funny to take eachothers tailgaits off... hapened once to me and i was almost late to football so i keep mine locked and if i find out who did it i will take off one of their tiers and keep it in my bed

I know this thread is old but I thought I would add my 2 cents. I keep mine locked because I have a truck box in there, a soft tonneau cover that comes off in less than 60 seconds, and a bed extender. When the bed extender is inside the bed, it can't be removed unless the tailgate is down. Never thought about how easy it is to remove the tailgate though so I guess that would be another reason to keep it locked.

 

I never even stuck the key in mine, no tonneau so Nothing to hide anyways. Lets see someone try to steal my line-x lol, but, the tailgate part is a good reason to lock it though. Never thought about that..

I installed an electric tailgate lock on my 03 when I put the tonneau cover on and I wired it to the passenger door so it won't unlock the tailgate when I click the keyless entry for the drivers door. But if both doors are unlocked, the tailgate locks when I push the lock button on my remote. This has worked great for me because I never forget to lock the tailgate. It locks everytime I lock the doors.

I lock my f-150 and f-350 tailgates, alot of work trucks tailgates get beat up bad and i could see a crack head trying to steal a tailgate and sell it to make a buck.

 

Never tried to see if mine even works. Guess I'll have to try it after reading this.

 

Did the electric lock mod on mine. So it locks with the doors.

 

Locked all the time,it takes seconds to lock it.

 

I always had it locked in our old neighborhood. There was a problem with tailgates walking away at night.

 

ya i do now and after the dealer put the second one on my truck ill shoot the sun-of-a-b#&%* that stool the first one if i ever find em!!!! so thats why you should lock em

 

Mine is always locked. I hate it when I leave the keys inside and go to get something out (I have a cover) but it's nice knowing it's less likely to walk off one day.

 

weeeelllllll........now that ive LOST my Tailgate, I'll LOCK it from now on!!!! why wouldnt Ford seralize the Gates?? they KNOW there has been a Problem since 2005!!!!! To much Xtra CASH to be made ..i guess...!@#%!&* Hey Guys LOCK YOUR TAILGATE or loose it to a CRACKHEAD !! your Choice .

 

Truck is too damn long, and dont wanna walk to the back of the truck to do so haha.
