Another intercooler sign in...(Everyone please)
Well, I finally took my 99L #3682, August 17) back to the dealer. The mechanic removed the supercharger and found dye in the intercooler air passages. He also found the impeller coating flaking off. The service writer says that SVT will have a new supercharger and a new intercooler to the dealer tomorrow(!), and that I should have my big red truck back by Friday(!).
Only one disappointment: I'm not getting a 2001 intercooler/upper intake after all; those parts are not available at this time.

I've got 57,000 miles and my second intercooler has lost its fluid (the first went ~20,000 miles).
It's in the dealer now getting 'diagnosed'. I don't know why I have to leave it with them for 2 days to tell me what we already know - loss of fluid and no visible leaks = intercooler failure.
I was up north on vacation when I noticed the fluid level going down. I called SVT and they told me to take it to the closest dealer. As I was on vacation and there are no SVT dealers up there, I said ‘how about if I just bleed out the remaining fluid so it isn’t sucked into the engine’. They said OK, but if I were to that I should also unplug the power to the circulation pump so it wouldn’t burn up. SVT said they were still waiting for the revised parts to be produced and that mine should be covered, even though I’m WAY out of warranty
Anyone hear yet when the new parts will be available?

I got my '99L back last Friday as promised! A three-page work sheet: new S/C (impeller coating was flaking off), I/C, EGO sensors, gaskets, coolant, and oil change(?). The machanic pulled the front plug on each bank and found no damage (reservoir had never run dry); ran an exhaust back-pressure check for cat damage (none--it was a real slow leak, maybe two quarts in all. Everything seems to be working just fine. Thanks to Serramonte Ford, Colma, CA for a job well-done.
BTW, the new S/C reads Ford/SVT on the front cover instead of Eaton.

Mostly stock except for K&N filter
PIAA headlamp bulbs
Tried '01 tail lights (nice), but went back to originals (nicer on the red truck).

With the Blower AND intake?
They didnt swap out the new blower with the one from your original engine? That seems to be what they are doing, as per federal regulation or something.
What gets me is the 99-00 engines are low-emissions-rated. The '01 engines are ULTRA-low-emmssions rated. I dont understand why they wouldn't do it. I can see them giving you a new blower, buyt not an 01 intake.

The whole motor from top too bottom was put in. Took a week to get from plant. Engine date on valve cover is 5/23/01. Took pics(but do not have scanner), intake and blower are the new setup. Temp sensor on passenger side, says FORD SVT on front, old said EATON. The exhaust manifolds also look like come put more from motor, and have diffrent castings on them.
The 2001 blower and intake parts will not change to 99-00 intake or blowers. MMFF mag said the bolt patterns are diffrent. Mag about 2 months ago showed pics, so could see the changes on the 2001 system.

Well "The Leak" has finally caught up to me. My L now has 12.5K and I noticed the resevoir down about an inch. I was hoping I wouldn't notice and just let it BLOW. That way I could take my truck to WILLMALL2's dealer. At least they sound like they did the right thing. I hate going car shopping because of the dealer, now I get to go to the WORST part of the dealer, thanks Ford.

Mine's at the dealer now.
99 Lightning
29,500 miles
Got gas last week and noticed the intercooler
tank was 1/2 full. The next day it died on
the Freeway.
Ford payed for the Towing, and the new
intercooler is on order. The dealer said
they're replacing the mass air.
It was a fun explaing the problem:
them: We don't see any water in the oil
me: it's an intercooler leak. It cools air
not oil.
them: uh...How do you know it's leaking?
me: groan!
