Post Another intercooler sign in...(Everyone please)

Hey guys, I am looking for some help here. I am a little concerned, the dealership said he never heard of the problem, so I am trying to get yet another percentage calculation.

Except this time I am looking for Lightnings that have atleast over 10k miles and no leak, or less than 10k miles with a leak.

Please specify date of build, not your build #. I appreciate your help.

Heres a list that I compiled from a search,
first thread, by sixpipes Topic: Intercooler Problems? - Please Register ps. sixpipes, thanks for 'taking one for the team' do you still have a warranty?

name----------- mileage------build date

As of April, 2000
sixpipes - 17k
noelvm - 16k
Spiro99SVT - 8k -
DHFerguson - 20k - 5/12/99
Nathan - 12k - on second intercooler no leak 2k miles
thepawn - no leak - 3/20/(00?)
Struck99 - no leak - 3400 miles

svt-tommy - 25k
4rts2nv - 6.3k
Nathan - second intercooler leaking- unk. mileage
luv2putt - 12,350 miles

Avergage mileage of 15= 11.7k miles before leak

The following were compiled from the thread posted by Pacecar18 Register here if your intercooler has been replaced as of Late July, 2000

GO_RILA - 18k - 5/15/99
Spiro99SVT - on second intercooler, no leaks as of late July

DHFerguson - second intercooler not leaking in 13k miles
Autothrottle - 8.5k miles
BlackLight - 35000 km.

Average of 14 = 13.05 k miles, using Blacklight as 25k miles rough estimate

3rd thread, by alphadoggy Intercooler failure
alphadoggy - 8000 miles - '00 model

RTKILLA - started leaking again, 2nd intercooler - as of 11/5/00

noelvm posted this phone number, I quote
hey sixpipes, Did your new intercooler arrive? I talked with SVT this morning and they said there should be no delays in getting an intercooler. If your has not arrived call SVT at 1-800-367-3788 and raise APE. Post their resonse if you call.
Noelvm

If my service writer has any problems, I'll have him call Bankston Ford in Frisco (where's that sixpipes?)

Some pictures for the culprit, a sincere thanks to PBGas, the thread, Damaged Intercooler Pics - check it out! Please read.!!!

Sorry for the heavy post, it needed to be done, lets try to keep this one on track.

I did 2 rough calculations, and it seems like the intercoolers that fail, fail between 11.7 k and 13k miles, on average. Thanks for your post WHAT04

Where is PFA, he has killed 2 so far.
It must be because his truck is slow, and it is trying to commit suicide...

SilverBullet, how is your intercooler? I dont remember posting your stats, I need to know, I am currnently looking for his stats. Thanks.

I tried loading up the BON message boards, but they are down for maintenance.

Pleasr note, the mileage numbers in my first post are when the intercoolers were first noted when leaking, unless othwerwise noted.

Forgot to add this in the first post,

Tundra

I don't know the build date of my 2000 truck; but, after about 16,000 over about a six month period, I've yet to see a leak or loss of intercooler coolant. Don't have any problems with my wiper blades, either.

Thanks guys for the replies, keep 'em coming.

I have to go get something to eat now, but I will be gathering as much info as I can until I bring the truck in.

I almost forgot, Anyone else have the wiper blade problem I came across? I almost forgot all about it.

Thumbs down

Built sometime in late Feb/early March of 2000. Started leaking at 12,0XX miles. Got it ordered and replaced in less than a week. Dealership gave me NO crap at all.

DUCK

On a side note->
(I'll edit this out before you turn this thread over to your dealership cuz it is kinda odd)...Have you ever seen Cal Worthington himself? Is he a tall(ish), old guy with gray hair? There used to be commercials on in Houston with a car dealer named Cal Worthington who always had "his dog spot" (usually a bear, tiger, lizard, or other strange animal) and would "eat a bug if I'm not the best deal in town." Just curious to see if he finally made the big-time.

Cal's been around for ever. I remember seeing his ads on TV when I was kid vacation-
ing in California in the 60's. Same stuff, dog spot & eat a bug if you find a better deal. Unfortunaltly for us up here, he moved north. Saw in a post on the board he was booted out of Washington. Now we have him.
Good luck Tundra. No leak for me yet at 4K miles, so you're paving the way for me if I
get the leak. The more info you have the better you should be able to do battle with spot & company (elephants, tigers, chimps, dogs - never a pretty girl-what's with that)

Well with the Lightning put up forthe winter
I can plan next springs mods I would like to do if the money holds out. Replaced my intercooler last July after five week wait for the parts to come into the dealer. Had to run at the WFC in May with the leak after
finding the coolant was leaking changing fluids out before that race. When discovered there was 13500 or so on the odomiter but still drove it till change out at around 15300 miles. Since the new cooler, no leaks on the new one yet!Runs strong but still have
trouble hooking up at the drags. Best time at WFC was 13.26 @ 103.6. Have learned alot
since then on how to launch right too!I now have almost 29,700 miles but little rubber left on the F-1's. Will get Nitto 555's next
spring.
