So lemme get this straight. Someone bought that stalling POS and drove it all the way to chicago. Went to get some snow tires put on it because the weather was cold. The tire shop took it to daytona and won the 500, blew the motor doing burnouts in the infield. Then brought it back and put it inside becuase it was cold out. The owner came to pick it up only to find out it wouldn't start and there was coolant flowing out the optima battery.

Ok GOT IT!

While I'm at the hair salon with a bunch of cacklin' broads I'll take a slight fade with a little off the top.

On a serious note. I'd be interested to see what actually failed when the motor gets torn down.

Aren’t we all having fun : o ()

Let me tell you EXACTLY how this swap started. One night out of no where I get a phone call saying would you be interested in buying the L, I immediately look at how much more it'll cost me, what I can sell Red for, and what I get in return. What I get in return is a 1yr newer L that is in absolutely MINT condition, Garage kept its whole life and only has 30K on the Body. And a list of Mods I've always wanted but don't have the patience or resource to do,
BECAUSE NO ONE EVER TOUCHES MY L CEPT ME AND THE BUILDER.

Those things included the Cowl Hood I always wanted, the Roll Pan I always wanted, The BTS Tranny I could never afford, the Bucket Seat Mod I couldnt do, Console, Roll Bar, SFI Harness, Tonnea Cover Cut out, QA1'a all round, and and and... Some of those and's included the most Kick *** Nitrous System you have ever seen, Carbon Fiber Solenoids, Digital Progressive Control, and an install including Purge, Heater, and Switches second to none.
Your looking at an easy 3K for this system installed, it was also "BLACK" and had other advantages like the Roof Console I didnt have, auto door locks I didnt have, better bed rug, and and and... In the end IT WAS A NO BRAINER,
just like I lost over 50K when I sold the 02, and Ed Lost over 20K when he sold Red, Mike took a Bath on this one too. For me it was getting 20K worth of extras for a third of the price.

BUT it was weeks and weeks after that (@3) before it was home. All through that PRE-swap period I was on the phone with 2 of my close Lightning Buddy's day in and day out trying to get opinions on if I was doing the right thing.

What am I crazy Red runs amazing and already has 600 HP, I can add a n20 system, It'll run low 11's hi 10's already, I already own it, everyone likes Red, it's growing on me, my son hates Black, I cant afford anything more, bla bla bla.. But it kept coming back to Blacky was Black, it was MINT, it was 101% done from head to toe, AND IT WAS PROVEN!!! What was I suppose to do with Red drive 300miles make 1 pass and get thrown out, thats no fun : o (
Everything in me kept saying DO IT ROB IT'S WHAT YOU ALWAYS WANTED...
For once in my Life I had a Deal. WOO HOO!!! WOO WOO WOO WOO

AND NOW THIS )@^$%(@^$%@()$%@)$%@($%@($

People can believe what they want, people dont have to believe schitt
BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE my Lightning stalled twice in it's life I put the correct spark plugs and gap in AND IT NEVER ONCE STALLED AGAIN
(for the 9 million fking time)

The 99 ran absolutely perfect, many of my L brothers know that, Sal knows that, I know that, "AND GREGG KNOWS THAT".
It made it to Chicago running perfect, had nothing funny in the oil, and was running perfect days after that, YOU DO NOT DRIVE 6 BLOCKS TO A PARKING LOT SHUT IT OFF AND THE MOTOR SELF DESTRUCTS, that is what he is saying happen, we all know that is impossible....

WOW...... I jumped on here this morning to take a peek @ the site and I see this thread.
If I may set the record straight.

Rob in my humble opinion... is a STAND-UP guy... After numerous phone conversations with him back and forth b4 I bought the truck, after I bought the truck and still its very concerned about it, I never ever ever thought himself or Sal had anything to do with this. I bought the truck " as is " , not that I am saying anything was wrong with it, but that is a NORMAL business transaction.. all you guys know it as well as I do.... "POOP" as they say happens.. and well it happened in this case... I will deal with it. I still LOVE the truck and look forward to allot of years owning it.
The TIRE shop had NOTHING to do with it. I saw the truck the whole time, NO ONE DROVE the truck except ME. It was sitting there the whole 20 minutes in the LOT as I waited for my turn in line for the tires.
Is there something I could have done to it? Am I to blame? possably? I dont KNOW.. All I know is that I drove it a whole 60 miles here when I got it back.. to the alarm place, to the gas station,to the dry cleaners, to the bed cover place, to the oil changing place, ... maybe they took it for a JOY RIDE when I wasn't looking, the whole 15 minutes I was there with them in the bay?

I DID not ABUSE this truck, I love this truck, I babied it the whole way home and here also. I never got ON it.. and my thought is.... isn't the truck built to "get on it" isn't it made for a little FUN? I cant believe that a truck this built can not be driven in some kind of aggressive manner.. NOT that I even did drive it that way... But you have to bet I was going to when the weather permitted me to.
So all of the " speculations" about what happened will only be answered once it is torn down and looked at..

I do have to again repeat... I am NOT blaming ANYONE, not the oil change guys, not the tire shop, not the dry cleaner woman who looked at it with a "O WOW" that is a nice truck, and especially not ROB or SAL.. it happened, and I will make damn sure that it does not happen again. I cant afford it..

So thanks for all of the concern and wondering and speculation and blaming someone... I take the blame, I take the responsibility, It my truck and I plan on keeping it for a long long time...

From: Colorado,
Well, finaly someone makes some sense.

Welcome to the family ChiTown. Sorry to hear about your truck. Sorry for Rob too. I guess we all know that when you own a hot rod truck things like this can happen.
I'm thinking your problems might be minor. Probably cost more in labor than the repair. Head gaskets can go and it doesn't sound like you were under a load when it finally started to act up.
Like you and a few others said. All this stuff is BS until you have all the facts.

Heck, I remember buying my used 99 from a Ford dealer. I drove it 250 miles home. My buddy noticed no coolant in the intercooler resavoir and turned out it had the bad intercooler which never got replaced durring the recall. I had to fork out the money and do it myself. Dealer couldn't get Ford to help even though we tried. I loved that truck. I only traded it for my 04 to get a few upgrades and have one with zero miles. Now I have a sqeaky torque converter that my 99 didn't hehehehehe oh well. I had antifreeze on my plugs too. I don't know how long that intercooler had been bad. It didn't seem to hurt anything in the 20K miles I drove it after the repair.

Rob, Your a great guy and anyone spending time on this forum knows we like to pick on you even when your not at fault. Better you than me.... hehehehe
And again a Big Welcome to ChiTown. You will be back on your honeymoon soon.

OBSERVATIONS:

1. ROB is cursed when it comes to Lightings.
2. ROB should never work on his own vehicle.
3. ROB is cursed when it comes to lightnings.

I'm curious as to what type of head gasket that thing had.

Question for the built guys:

You buy a complete built engine and install from JDM/PSP/JLP. Then on the way home it blows up. Who is responsible to cover the cost?
