This is why whenever i leave my truck somewhere i take note of the miles. I'm really not comfortable leaving it anywhere other than lightning shops because I KNOW that when an idiot gets in it they are going to act like a fool. I DO NOT trust tire shops, I dont even trust them to jack my truck up. Last time at the tire place i watched one of the workers drag the impact wrench down the side because he was too busy not paying attention. Needless to say I take my wheels off and take them to tire places. I'd be noting mileage, if at all possible, and inquiring to just how much driving the truck did at discount tire. Unless they had a reason to roadtest, they sure as hell better not have took it down the road. If someone blew my built motor up, they'd need to be using that tire iron to pull my foot out of thier ***. Somethings def not right with this, I have to take rob and sal's side. If Sal dyno tuned it, there's no reason for it to tear up unless it was mistreated by someone. I'd be callin a lawyer.

Tire shop

+1 on the tire shop.
Truck drives in fine in the afternoon and it won't start the next morning? Coolant in the cylinders and grinding when you turn it over?
What do they think, you just fell off the turnip truck?!
Lawyer-up!

wow that does suck, ill be following this thread, but my bet is the head gasket got pushed and started leaking b.c someone ragged on it in colder (more dense) air conditions.

My suspicions are that the tire guy knows more than he is saying. Maybe video survellaince of a nearby or even his shop could be looked at. It smells fishy when shop owner acts all concerned and as put offered to help with the fix. To me that spells guilt, shop guy is no idiot and knows how this looks on the surface, it is how it looks, truck was taken on a gun run and the motor was hurt. Go after the shop guns blazing, motors dont just blow up overnight sitting in a garage. Check see if any video may footage is avail.

Damn, that sucks.

Whenever I have to leave the truck somewhere I always make sure the mileage gets written down on the work order.

I'm sorry to hear about the truck. I hope you get who-ever is responsible to pay for what they did.

First thing that comes to mind is do we know what tune was loaded up? An agressive(warm weather) tune would be a disaster in cold weather, or if fuel octane was innadequate. Extreme cylinder temps are the next thought. Possibly a fuel system failure making it go lean. A new owner may not heed the warning signs
Good luck with the rebuild.

I'm not so sure that I would be so positive if I had just spent 20k on a truck that now has a blown engine.

Obvisually somebody knows somthing that they're not telling. Wheter it's the shop owner or the guy that owns the truck. The engine isn't gonna blow itself. and like mentioned above, I can't see blowing a head gasket unless there was some abuse.

Check possible cameras in the area... that was a good idea.

If the truck owner blew the motor.. he knows it and he shouldnt be upset at anyone but himself.

Sad day for that lightning.

whether Rob knew or not STL01SVT,,, He still has a blown motor. Rob is not responsible for what happens to the truck once it is signed over to the new owner. That motor could have poped leaving Robs house and there is nothing he would be able to do. Thats Life.

I'm not saying that Rob knew the truck had a problem. Rob is a stand up guy and would never screw someone over like that. I'm just saying without knowing what caused the engine failure, you can't rule out something he might have unknowingly done to the engine.

The last video that I watched of Rob in the Red truck, the truck stalled several times. Also, he was on and off the throttle in a very erratic style. If the truck was driven for several months who knows what this continuous suddenly on/off throttle could have damaged. I've just never seen a built Lightning driven that way.
