POWER REAR SLIDER -- ATTENTION ELECTRICAL GURUs--HELP!
SERIOUSLY considering putting a power sliding rear window in my KR and had a brain storm...
Could I buy another switch like the switch that we all use to adjust our pedals and wire it into the power slider? Is this possible? If so, I think I'd mount the switch almost immediately beside the location of the pedal switch. I was thinking it would give it a really clean look.
--Dave, (the electrical king) looking at the schematics, I can't tell if it'd work or not.. any insight?--
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Dirty jokes? Comments?

Actually rock the button for the power slider doesn't look like the ones for the pedals.....my mom has the power slider on her truck....i will take a pic of the button for it tonight and post it for ya.

Yeah, I thought the mounting kit came with a switch....
Isn't that switch just a simple dual direction toggle type switch though? It just seems like the pedal switch could work but, like I've said in several posts, I'm electrically stupid.
I don't have a problem with the stock slider switch... I just thought it might give it a little bit of a professional look if it could work... if not, oh well... I'll stick with stock from powerslider.
Skagel, your mom like hers? Dufunnel seems to love his... I'm pretty anxious to enjoy that rear glass. Heck, you can't reach it from the driver's seat.... and I'm a pretty big guy (6'1"). Ford should have these things stock installed.

It should work. I highly doubt you'll have much luck finding a connector that will work well, though... If you got both out of a junkyard, they'd probably want to charge you for the whole wiring loom in the dash... but it would work. You could probably splice in the light wire from a dash light wire.... Shouldn't be too hard to find. Power for the switch would be from your desired power source, and it should work well. I don't see why not, unless there is a lot of current going through the switch...

i would imagine a relay would be easy enough to set up so that high current is out of the question.

I would venture to guess that the pedal switch could handle enough current to slide the window open and closed without the need for a relay. However, if you know the current requirements of the motor for the slider, then it should be fairly easy to determine for sure if the pedal switch will work without the need for a relay. Let me know your electrical specs and I will give you my honest opinion.
I think your idea to use the pedal switch is excellent and I would want to use the same switch as it's double acting momentary feature is perfect for that application. Another switch that'd work well is the door window switch as it's also double momentary as well.
I think GIJoeCam's comment on the electrical connector being almost impossible to locate is pretty much what I've run into with my electrical mods. However, I don't think Ford uses the same manufacturer for each and every connector on the truck so you might luck up and find one. The other option is to use a different brand of switch which has the same actuation but a more commen type of connector.

I'm not learking, I just don't have as many opportunities to comment as some others. I do have to work for a living, unlike some on this site who can enjoy the internet during working hours, I don't even get access to the internet at work. There were too many sales guys who couldn't stay away from golf and **** sites so they took internet access away from everyone except top level managers. It's okay for them to go to bad sites, just not for the worker bees.

hey, i got the pic of my mom's button thing that opens the slider window......i will post it in the morning.....it does look almost identical to the pedal and is placed right next to the pedal buton...the arrows are just pointing in left and right instead of up and down.....other then that they are identical.....not sure why I thought they were different.....oh and mom and I took her truck out this evening.....she now has 275.3 miles on it.....wooohooo.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I'm going to scavenge a few salvage yards tomorrow. I wouldn't expect that part to be really hard to come by but, I'm not sure what all I need. Basically, I'm assuming that I'd need the switch (obviously) and the wiring harness coming off the backside. I guess I should look at the one on my pedals and weigh that option a little more.
There's a pretty good automobile electrical shop near my office. I might get them to do the wiring so I know it's done right. I see this project getting expensive quick. *shrugs* May as well do it right the first time and like it rather than saying "I wish I'd done this or that".

Man, I only spend my precious time helping thinking you'll do the work yourself. If you are not planning on doing the work yourself, how about letting me know so as I can just give my opinion on one line vs. writing paragraphs.
Anyway, you'll never learn electrical systems if you don't jump in there, read some books, get yourself a good voltmeter and just do it. I've heard so many folks say "I'm just not electrically inclined" but if you can understand hydraulics or water flowing through a hose then you've got some idea as to what's happening.
Come on Dude, make us proud and do the job yourself. At least find yourself a friend that knows what's going on and let him or her help you with the project and then you can say you learned something. Hell, anyone can pay someone to do anything. We're not talking space shuttle technology here, it's just a couple of wires, a switch and possibly a fuse and a maybe a relay if it's more than say 10 amps draw from the motor.
