Hey S'CREWLOOSE,

If you don't mind me asking... how much was the slider kit? The cheapest I've found it was right at $400 (then, S&H). Any suggestions on where to find it fairly cheap?

THANKS!

I found mine the cheapest at www.oemfordparts.com . That was almost 10 months ago though. And yes, the switch is the right one. I got a diagram verification on it.

It's kind of funny that Ford reused a Contour part for it though. I thought every vehicle had their own part numbers, even for the same parts.

Well, I received my switch the other day. According to the schematic in the manual I need 7 wires, The switch only has six. The #5 pin is blanked off purposely, it is the power wire for Instrument illumination.
I haven't installed it yet but after thinking about it and talking to Gary @ fordpartsonline , they may very well have modified the switch internally to use power from the motor source and just used the seperate ground to light it up.
I'm going to test this theory by installing the switch in place of the power pedal switch. It is the same switch except the arrows point left and right instead of up and down when it is in the operating configuration. (See picture Sarah has posted above)

Keep us posted on this S'CREW. I'm very interested in attempting this one but, I was planning on getting the switch out of a junkyard or something to avoid the $50 pricetag for a friggin' switch.

Let us know....

Rock,

The switch is in and it looks nice next to the pedal switch. I had to modify the switch a little to test it on the pedal control and as I first suspected the switch doesn't light up. I'm not happy with that but like I said, I modified it already so I own it. Go to the junkyard and get one out of a wreck along with the connector, maybe the contour window switch does have the ilumination pin. I am happy overall with the OEM look of the switch but I'm sure I will get tired of always thinking a bulb is out.....

My wife drove a 95' Contour for about 4 years. I can definately attest that the switch is illuminated.

I'm not sure that the power slider is going to happen though... My original plan was to have my leaky sliding rear glass replaced under warranty and pay the difference to have the power slider installed (which I figured would be around $200 or so...). After talking to Ford and to my dealership, it doesn't look like that's a viable option. Ford is VERY strict about warranty work. They will replace a part with the exact same part if it is under warrranty... PERIOD. I'm trying to work around this 'BS' rule but, it's not looking very good.

One would think that FORD would love for a customer to modify one of their vehicles to make it more customized and to better promote their products. Even more so, you would think that they'd love to make that extra $200+ to have the slider installed by one of their "factory trained technicians" (*laughs*). *SHRUGS* I guess I'm going to go without for a while.... It's definately still on my 'to do' list but, I'm not going to drop around $500 to have a power slider put in if I just had a brand new rear glass installed under warranty.

At this moment, I want to focus on making sure they get my sunroof fixed correctly....damn thing is leaking too.

Good luck with the repairs. Let us know how everything turns out. I am also interested since I have both the slider and sun roof. No leaks yet (knocking on wood). Where did the slider start leaking, this way I will double check that area on mine.

It's just a regular sliding rear window (stock from the factory). It's leaking at the top on the passenger side the best I can tell. A couple of drip marks (very very slight) on the headrest for the rear passenger side headrest.

Ford has knowingly admitted that it was a poor design and, when it's replaced, the 2002 (mine's an 01) designed rear glass will be used. They don't even have the 01' rear sliding glass in the computers any longer from what I'm told.

Mucho information on the slider in this post and, I just purchased one...

I may need to ask a few more questions...

Hey dufunnel,

Do you still have the pictures of the switch that came with the Kit from CR Laurence? I'm trying to decide if I just want to order the wiring/switch kit from sunroof doctor or attempt to locate the Contour switch from a wreck and run the wiring myself. Any idea what size fuse is in that set-up? Did you tie yours directly into the fuse panel in the truck?

Does anyone have any idea on the guage of wire that I would need and, can a person buy a 'inline fuse' set at most auto parts stores?

Thanks!!

I had a thought...

I just went and bought the stock switch (which, ironically, is the same switch as a Ford Contour's power window switch). I'm planning on mounting this switch immediately next to the 'Pedals' switch on my SCREW...

The harness that I snagged with the switch has the following wires:

Black/Black - Small guage
Yellow/Purple
Purple/White
White/Purple
Orange/LtBlue - Small guage
White/Purple
Yellow Purple

First, can anyone desypher what each wire does?

Secondly, could I simply splice connect the wires that run to the Pedals switch and get my power and such for the window off of that circuit rather than tying into the fuse block??

I would never expect to have to move the pedals (which I never ever do) and run the power window at the same time thus, would it work? Thoughts?
