04-08 FX-R Retrofit Help Please

Ok guys I just started my retrofit. I picked up a kit of the new 2.5in fx-r 3.0 and I need help. Nothing special 35w bulbs and ballast, Gatling Gun shroud and 100mm xb led halo ring. I've gotten to the point to where I'm unsure of how the projector and shroud are suppose to fit. So first things first, how deep are the projectors suppose to sit in the headlight projector bowl? Please see pics of my current progress.

Now onto the shroud. I know the Gatling Gun is really hard to fit on the fx-r but I went with it anyways due to it being my favorite shroud. Just unsure of how far down the projector is the shroud suppose to go? Please see pics below.

First off, the four bolt holes need to sit against the reflector, as if you are to bolt it down.

Secondly, the shroud was designed to fit all the way down, as it looks in the first picture. However, it may require trimming (mine did) and if you don't want to trim, you can easily just have it stick out a bit. I have 2-3 dabs of silicone holding my shroud to my projector.

Raptor thanks for chiming in.

1. Ok so more trimming on the reflector bowl so the projector can sit lower.

2. Yea I did some trimming to the shroud already but will do more to get it to sit lower on the projector.

That's the information I needed, thanks again Raptor.

Don't trim too much or the projector will hit the metal brace on truck! It looked close to where you had it.
The shroud needs to be trimmed more though.

Read the how to: in my link below.
I have no idea why it wasn't moved to the write up section.

Thanks Powerz. Yes I've been using your guide, probably why I got as far as I did. Just got hung up bc of the different generation projectors and had a hard time comparing. Ok so now I know the shroud definitely needs more trimming. Next step there is for me to cut out the notches at the bottom of the shroud. I'll also do a little more trimming on the projector bowl. I appreciate the help, I'm sure there will be more questions coming.

Don't forget you still have to add the bulb and power plug. On my truck I have 1/2 inch before hitting the frame with the power plug. Maybe just install the bulb and plug and do a test fit to see how much deeper you can go.

I agree with Powerz, I wouldn't recess it anymore then you already have it because you will run into clearance problems with the 04-08 rigs. My FXRs definitely don't touch the reflector where the mounting holes are. Trim the shroud to fit a little more snug to cover the gap and you'll be set.

I don't know if you checked out
Lifted5.4Lariat

What do you guys suggest for painting (prepping) the shroud and headlights? Sand them? Or oven cleaner and completely de-chrome?

Ok guys what do you suggest for color scheme? I was thinking about the headlight housing painted white including the turn signal bucket. Then the shroud will be black not sure if I want to go flat or gloss. The other option is reversed, headlight black and shroud white. Here is my current setup on my truck.

All black like the new '13 rigs. All I see is the projector reflection. Looks cool
Nice truck btw when I bought mines I really wanted an all white truck

So many color schemes that would work. Appreciate it, originally wanted a black truck gmc at that. Ended up with a white f150, best choice I've ever made.

Leave the turn signal reflector chrome, otherwise you won't be able to see it at night.
