Talking wiring harness

i recently went through this with the wiring harness for the audiophile system, i bought a headunit off ebay with 6disc and mp3 capibility. the plug was in a holder behind the radio, and i found the plug for the subwoofer under the rear seat on the drivers side. there is an "L" shaped cut in the carpet on the inside of the seat frame, i found the plug by cutting the carpet toward the back of the truck. the wiring harness was mounted to the floor with a plastic screw. i cut the carpet about 4 inches and when i got the plug out i used double sided carpet tape and you can't see where i cut the carpet plus the sub covers it any way. the wiring harness may on be there on the higher end trucks. hope this helps

Thank you for the help, I will look there to see if I can find it. Bink360, it is definately the subplug that was behind my radio. I have the 24 and 16 pin plugs plugged into my radio now and the 8 pin/4 wire harness was clipped to the firewall behind the radio.

I will give an update if i find it.

Bigmoe, is it under the padding also or just the rug. Just to confirm, I am cutting torwards the back of the truck correct? I looked for it tonight doing what you desribed above but still could not find the harness. Is it straight back on the bump up in the back or to the left or right from the "L" cut?

Thanks,

wiring harness

the plug was under the carpet and the padding. looking from the front of the truck towards the back, it was to the left of "L" shape cut about 4 to 6 inches to the back.it had a plastic screw holding it to the floor, you may have to cut the carpet a little to the left also. the double sided tape will repair the extra cuts and also if you get the sub in no one will be able to see the cuts anyway. if you have any other questions fill free to ask.

Thanks Bigmoe, I will check again tomorrow, I made the "L" bigger and stuck my hand in through the "L" but could not feel it. Thanks again for your help, I will let you know how it turns out, I really hope I can find this plug.

Update: No luck either I am not looking in the right place or it is not there. Bummer!

Length of wires?

Pin 3 HU -> Pin 9 Sub
Pin 1 HU -> Pin 7 Sub (Should be shielded)
Pin 2 HU -> Pin 8 Sub (Should be shielded)
Pin 4 HU -> Pin 1 Sub (Shield)

Hot at all times +12V -> Pins 5 & 6 Sub
Ground -> Pins 2 & 3 Sub

I can't believe any audio shop couldn't figure that out. That is a very basic wiring diagram.

Hey FordNoobie, I got my plugs and am taking them down today to have a harness made. About how long did you make your harness? Thanks, Bill

For my Supercrew, I would say I made the signal wires at least 8' long. I made the +12V wire longer to go from the fuse block to the amp and I grounded the amp next to the amp.

I took the pig-tails down today but the technician said he couldn't guarantee the hook up if he just made me a harness from your description and diagram. So, I made an appointment for him to install the whole thing on Thursday. I guess I would have been wrong anyway since you say you put a seperate 12v wire to the fuse block. I thought you only had to wire each plug together and put one in the back of the HU and the other in the sub amp. Doesn't the plug in the HU also provide 12v for the amp? or did you hook it to the fuse block for another reason? I don't know anything about these kind of things, I hope the installer will be able to figure it out.

I am with you in your thinking about just connecting the wires together and plugging one end in to the HU and one into the sub. After reading all of these posts though, I am getting worried that it might be more complicated. Keep us updated on how your sub is going to be installed. I am getting ready to purchase a sub and install it myslef, but am worried about it.

Hey FordNoobie, before I take my truck in tomorrow to have the subwoofer installed, I wonder if you or someone could clarify something for me. I gave the installer the copy of your earlier post showing the pin numbers for the plugs. But now you say you made a 12v wire longer to go from the fuse block to the amp and then ran a ground wire from the amp to next to the amp. Doesn't the plug from the HU already have +12v and ground running from it? If so, how come you ran an extra wire? I also gave a copy of the schematic that you posted but my installer couldn't read it as it was too small. If you have a better picture of it, could you email it to me? morrobil@fix.net Any help would be appreciated, I wouldn't want this installer to blow anything up. Thanks in advance....... Bill

Sorry guys, but I was unavailable yesterday.

The +12V and ground is a separate connection. They DO NOT come from the head unit!

The diagram shows this as well:
The signal wires are connected to the Audio Unit through connector C290c and the +12V is connected to the Central Junction Box through connector C270m

I couldn't figure out exactly where the ground connection was supposed to be so I just grounded it to the cab next to the amp.

morrobil, I hope it's not too late, but I'm sending you a larger version in the drawing.

Hey FordNoobie, Thanks for getting back to me. I took the truck to Radio Shack and they installed it for me. They installed it just the way you did and it works perfectly!! Cost me $60.00 for the installation but it is warrantied and I know I couldn't have done it myself. Thanks for you help!!

Question 04 F150 XLT 6-disc...trying to hook up sub

I have a 6-disc in dash Ford OEM-NON AUDIOPHILE head unit in my 04 f150 XLT. I have ordered an audiophile subwoofer off of E-bay. Will the following harnesses listed by fordnoobie work without an Audiophile HU?
3U2Z-14S411-DLA: Connector w/ leads that plugs into head unit
3U2Z-14S411-CAAA: Connector w/ leads that plugs into sub/amp
Thanks!

Also, does anyone know if a 6-disc in dash Ford Audiophile OEM changer Part # 5G1T-18C815-EA) from a Ford 500 will work in an 04 F150? It looks the same in the picture.

mlmf150,

The non-Audiophile head unit will not have the subwoofer output. Therefore, if you are wanting to stay with OEM equipment, you will need an Audiophile head unit to work with the sub.
