Thumbs up Colt--Ruger-- S&W------- I love you

I will give up my gun when they pry my cold dead fingers from around the barrel

I live in a state where over 90% of the households have a gun. Maybe that's why "Wess by God Virginny" has the lowest crime rate in the USA

Good grief, gun control is out of hand already. There are so many laws already that aren't enforced, we don't need more. Even if there was a 4 years waiting period for guns, the criminals are going to have their guns tomorrow if they want them. Here's a tip, and you can quote me on this. "People who are going to go out and use guns in crimes probably aren't going to use their own registered guns anyway. Chances are, even the sniper doesn't have his rifle's registration with him in the van." As for politicians and people who are opposed to guns, imagine if a violent person breaks in to YOUR house and is endangering YOUR family. Just sit back and watch them do it, and wait for the police to come help. I am not knocking police, but the cops can't be everywhere all of the time to protect you from every criminal that wants to hurt you. A nice pistol can be. If you make it harder for good citizens to get guns, then the only people who will have guns will be the criminals, because laws don't stop the illegal gun activity in the country. If the law-abiding private citizen can't get guns anymore, then there will be a power shift to the criminals. Then see how safe we are. You won't have to worry about the sniper then, you will have to worry about every criminal, because there's nothing more dangerous than someone who has the power to take a life and feels like they have to prove something because the world has treated them unfairly. Especially if their targets can't defend themselves. It would be open season on "the good guys (& gals)" then. Think about it, even if you don't want a gun yourself, some private citizens do, and it's not the guns that hurt people, it's the intention of the person holding it.

You don´t need stricter laws

Hi there,

I´m a US-Pickup freak from Germany and the gun controls here are stricter than they´re in the US that´s for sure. So I can tell you that it won´t make any sense to make the laws stricter in the US. With our stricter laws here in Germany there are still many criminals with guns and people get shot by them every day. Remember the horror of Erfurt??? You see stricter laws like we have them here are not the solution to prevent crime.

Daniel

By the way I´m for sure part of a minority with my opinion here in Germany. But in many ways I prefer the american way of thinking over the german one :-)

US Pickup Freak, Welcome aboard!!

Boy, this site is spreading pretty far! Glad to have you and look forward to hearing more from an "other than American" perspective! There's a lot here to read and respond to, so have fun!

You know it's funny, my girl was in Dusseldorf a few years ago visiting her friend, and she got the feeling that there wasn't the same element of crime. I guess that it might have just looked different to her never having been to Germany.

Hope to see you on the boards!

Tom

Man, I can just feel the love here...

Hey, I have a life outside of this place. Sometimes, I need to go off and earn some money to feed my habit of collecting houses...

It's true. I'm a gun owner. I bought my first gun, a Superposed 12 ga. in 1974 while I was a freshman in college. Used it to hunt birds and shoot skeet in the off season. Best ever, shot 300 straight in tournamnt. It was either get a hobby or drink myself silly every weekend. Just sold my MEC reloader to my cousin since I don't shoot all that much anymore and I can always get my cousin to reload my shells.

Prior to that, I shot my grandfather's .22 rifle. First time I ever shot it, I was around 5 years old. I now own that rifle. My grandfather probably paid $20 for that rifle, but it's the one I value the most.

I also own other guns and handguns. Handguns are for sport shooting and fishing (sometimes, I gotta shoot the fish/shark for our safety). I now have a .45 bang stick on the boat. Prior to that I used my .357.

Anywho, owning a gun should be similar to driving a car. It's a shame that any tom ****, harry, and harriet can own a gun and not have to show proficiency or knowledge of safety. All gun owners should be registered and should go through an approved gun safety course and the license should be renewed on a regular basis just as driver's licenses do.

I don't believe all that hoo-ha about why registration is bad if we get invaded. Hell's Bells! If we get invaded, we'll be faced with bigger problems than that! Besides, what the hell can you do with your guns against mortars, nukes, chemical weapons, and other deadlier forms of weapons? You and I know we will all be dead if we are ever invaded to the point that we would lose our country. The nukes will be flying way before that happens.

I thought banning big clips was a waste of time. I would rather have seen a mandatory 25+ year sentence for anybody committing a crime while in possession of a gun whether it was fired or not. 25+ year term for having an unlicensed weapon. 25+ year term for carrying a concealed weapon without the proper license.

Contrary to what you conservatives think, I'm not against gun ownership. I never was. I am against illegal and unsafe use of guns. I am against putting guns in the hands of people who can't control their tempers. I am against putting guns in the hands of children without proper supervision.

My position on gun ownership has been clear, so don't be putting words in my mouth! I will admit that what some of you are saying and have said in the past is really scary to me. Then, I have to wonder just how much of what you're saying is just bravado and when faced with a situation, would you really shoot somebody? How many of you have actually shot somebody? How did it feel? Did you kill that person? Was it easy to do? Will the next person you shoot or kill be easier than the first?

I think I'm going to start a campaign. "Liberals, join the NRA and take it over!"

Well crime here may not be that visible but we´ve also areas which I would avoid after 8 pm.
What makes me upset here are the tight and small roads in town. Man I can tell you even with my VW Golf it´s sometimes really difficult when there´s traffic in the other direction, too. But that´s for sure: If´ll have enough money (ok maybe need 10 years or more) I´ll buy me a nice F-150!!! Too sad that Ford trucks are not acommon sight here. Last week I saw a F-150 and I was so happy about it.
Currently I´m saving money for a trip to Nashville next year and I´m sure it´ll be paradise for me (pickups, the grand ole opry and so on), but I see I´m getting off-topic now :-)

Making new laws will not do a damn thing. Since when have Criminals followed the laws? Kinda cancel each other out.

Dennis, recognize this:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Our founding fathers believed the most important thing in a free society was the fredom of speech, and to ensure freedom of speech and a free society, people have that right, make that the obligation, to own firearms so that OUR government (federal, state, or local) does not over step its boundaries.

I can't argue that people should be trained in how to handle a firearm safely. However, you mention people should be licensed, and have to renew it just like a drivers license; to renew their drivers license around here, tom, ****, or harry just has to do show up and take and vision test. What is that going to help?

Registration is a bad idea for many reasons. It's none of anybodies business, including the government, if or how many firearms I own. I'm not worried about having a firearm if another country invades, like you elluded to, a single firearm isn't going to do anything against an opposing army.

It's aready illegal to murder someone, or commit crimes. What good is it going to do to make it illegal to commit a crime if you have a firearm? The crime is already illegal!

PS - Welcome to the boards US Pickup Freak!
