this just makes me sick
Ill never understand why people let faith control their lives and think others need to follow it to a T too.
Go ahead and believe what you want. That is your right to do so and ill honor that by not telling you to not believe. But it seems that most people of strong faith cannot do the same to others who choose not to follow it so close. So dont make decisions for others based on YOUR beliefs and YOUR faith. They need to realize that other people follow it differently than others and to not criticize other people for not following it the same and telling them that they are not of truth faith.
I have never even read the bible but I was brought up a Catholic. I think its better this way because I believe in god yet I have my own beliefs in what life means and what is in store for me. I believe in heaven and everything but I dont believe in Hell. I've created my own beliefs and its makes me go through life easier than dedicating myself to one thing. I believe in god yet I dont think he has his hand on everything I do either, I would rather believe that my grandfather who was one of the greatest men to ever live in my eyes is the one looking out for me. I dont think its possible for a man that is written in a book that I have never met can love me more and know what is better for me than my grandfather. And that god is just the one that provided him with a place to live in peace after he passed. This is one thing I believe and no one can tell me that its the wrong way. I think that is a much healthier approach to faith because im not following a written book. By following it so closely I believe it does not promote self thinking, your brought up to do what everyone else is by following the norm and not thinking for yourself. And no one has the right to tell me that im doing it wrong. And I will not tell others that they are doing it wrong either.
So the moral of the story is to accept people of all faiths (the peaceful ones that dont kill for religion) and let people believe how they will without you stepping in and telling them that they are doing it wrong.

You hit the nail on the head there!!!!
Religion is supposed to be about loving each other but rather people use it as a means to show they are morally superior to each other. People use religion to justify hating others and killing them because they do not love God the same way they love God.
None of us are in any position to say whether Obama is a Christian or not. His actions and stated beliefs do not align with Christianity, but we have no clue what is in his heart.
Drick & K-Mac: you obviously do not know many people of true faith. Part of our jobs as Christians is to make people aware of when they are mislead, and you are. Our beliefs here on earth do not matter in the end and what we be believe is fair or right is not the end of the sentence. We are here by Gods grace to live and enjoy life and our only job is to use our lives to glorify God. Everything else comes next. Read in scripture in Ephesians and this will become very clear. We are God's workmanship, made in his image, for the purpose of glorifying God and enjoying life on earth. We are not to simply 'do' Christianity, we are to BE CHRISTIANS. We are Christians first, and dads, husbands, t-ball coaches, and F-150 geeks second. And God's desire is for him to live within us so that he can live through us, in all areas of our lives.
I agree about not hating, killing, or forcing anything on anyone, but it is our responsibility to let people know of the seriousness of believing in mortal things (like your own beliefs, that there is no hell, or your grandpa knows more about you than God.) This is a public truck forum, I've been here for years, and I know I'll get shouted down, but you ought to take a look at the first 5 chapters in Ephesians and read those chapters closely. It may change your perspective some. Hopefully you havent hardened your view too much about what you think, and you can still be persuaded before it is too late.

True not to those extremes but I have had many many people of strong faith tell me that im doing it wrong.
There was this guy that walked around NS Mayport when I was stationed there awhile back and used to "talk" with people about faith. I avoided him at all cost and told him to leave before I left him on the concrete after he told me that he used to be a criminal and spent 15 years in prison but now he has accepted god into his life. Then he told me im going to hell because I dont pray to god everyday and I dont go to church every sunday.
I had a convicted felon tell me that he will be saved because he believes and since I dont believe like him im going to hell. First of all I dont even know how this guy got on our base in the first place but I only seen him a few times.
And I have ran into many people just like him. If you are a man of truth faith yet you dont push it on others then I applaud you because you would be in the group that was not included in mine or Kmacs message. I clearly said MOST that does not mean all. But MOST people of huge faith will try to persuade someone one way or the other whether it be approaching me while im in the smoke pit on a break from work on base. Or whether it be something so little and harmless as putting a postcard on my windshield wiper at the movie theater. And I think that one bugs me more. Because I cant even tell you to leave me alone. I mean what do they do? See the Remington and POW/MIA stickers and dog tags from my mirror and think I need saving or something? I dont need saving I need people like that to leave me alone and let me think for myself. And that would be put into the classification of trying to persuade people. Churches need to quit instilling in the kids there that they have the right to change people. Because they dont, keep your hands off my truck windshield wipers because your religious cards are going to get thrown in the trash just as fast as a add for the local YMCA or something. Go ahead and bring your kids up the way you would like by making them believe the same as you. But also be sure to let them know that this is the way YOU and THEY will believe and NOT the way others may or may not belive and that they have no right to change others who are otherwise everyday contributing Americans that just dont believe the same thing.
People of strong religion need to leave others alone that choose not to have the SAME beliefs as them. And I dont see how MOST cannot grasp that concept
And once again he can call himself whatever he wants. Who cares if he agrees with same sex marrage and still calls himself a Christian. He has every right to call himself a christian and you have no right what so ever to tell him that he is not only because he goes against the grain on a little isssue like that. Maybe hes a modern day Christian who has accepted same sex marriage and the only reason he is saying he accepts it is to get their votes in 2012. And believe me I hate Obama and think hes a terrible President. But I dont think that we have any right to attack his religion. I dont personally agree with same sex marriage but not for religious reasons. Just because I think its gross to see two men kissing in the mall or seeing a man act like a women.

Drick, your service to America is greatly appreciated. I have no clue what your story is or what you've been though. But that has nothing to do with not needing God. I understand how people get offended when approached and pressured by people, but I guarantee that once you see what they see, you'll feel the same way. You feel like helping people because God has convicted your heart.
Look, Im a 27 year old guy that works for a steel company and loves to fish, not some radical right winger pushing my religion. I spent my high school and college years working for construction companies and met lots of nasty people along the way. And even I got saved. I was a skeptic, until I listened and tried to understand. It took some time, but man once I asked God to come into my heart and live within and through me, my life changed.
For anyone who doubts, they just dont understand, and those who have truely seen the light can't always communicate it very well. Dont be mad when they simply try to help.

Oh believe me im not saying your wrong at all. Actually im saying you are doing it right. You found what makes you into what you believe is the best person you can be.
Im 21 years old and I think im unlike the average 21 year old. I own my own house (well techinically I bought it from my parents after my grandmother died but still), work at a decent job for my area, that im still looking to advance in. And I rarely drink. But I have made my own beliefs and I still call myself a Catholic, I believe that god is real and has accepted me for what I am even tho I do not follow his book to a T.
I think that whatever belief a person adopts in their life to make them the best person they can be and the happiest then I think that its the right choice for them. Whether that be worshiping the spaghetti monster on the moon or reading the bible and taking everything to heart. As long as it is practiced peacefully and not trying to push their views on others.
Now there is some weirdos out there that have nothing to do with religion that are not covered by god at all IMO like they think they are. Like the Westboro baptist church. Every single one of those people deserve what they got comin to them.

Drick, with all do respect, thats something that you're going to have to learn more about and overcome. Our beliefs don't really matter because we cannot 'will' ourselves to Heaven just through our actions and kindness. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, not our earthly desires or achievements.
Not trying to sound stern or snobby or anything, I'm just trying to clear it up for you some. Take a look at the book of Ephesians, or look up a summary on the internet. It clears up our purpose as Gods people pretty well.

Is it infringing on your rights if adults in positions of athority are telling your kids that many people are gay and they might be gay too, without consulting you?
Some people believe that people are born gay. Some people believe it's caused by environment. I don't know if anyone is really sure why, except maybe Wikipedia.
The fact is, the defense of marriage act was passed. Our current president said one thing while running for the position, and now is saying something completely different. You are talking about homosexuality being illegal, which isn't being discussed, and about people not being accepting of homosexualy, when it appears that you aren't all that accepting yourself.

Im sorry but MY beliefs DO matter. Because I am my own person and no one is going to change the outcome of my life but me.
Thats the typical response from someone who pushing their religion on others. You basically said that since I dont agree with you and open my eyes to what you believe that im not going to heaven. What gives you the right to judge my life because you believe everything in that book that you read?
I work a full time job, im a tax payer and an asset to society just like you are. So how am I wrong? And I need to learn something? I think you need to learn to respect other peoples views on religion just like I have come to respect your views on religion.
Believe me. I am my own person, I bow at the knees of no one as I go through life getting out of it what I put in to it. In no way am I wrong in my beliefs and neither are you. But you are wrong in trying to tell me that what I believe is not true. Did I ever say what you believe is not true? No I did not i've supported your views until now.
And btw I can look at any book. Hell I can look at a book from ancient greece and they will try to prove the existence of greek mythology. Its whether you choose to believe what you are reading or not that makes it the right choice for you. And you chose this as the right path. Chances are if you were raised in the Middle east you would be praying to Allah because thats the geographical area your born in. But then again you still would not be wrong because yet again they are YOUR beliefs. NOT everyones and you cannot push them upon anyone, even if the bible says to make everyone believe in god. The bible also talks about kindness to all man kind I bet. Well that contradicts itself right there. I could find a million things that are contradicting in the bible if I decided to read it. But thats because im a thinker. What I have found is that many people that are huge about faith choose to ignore the contradicting points and just go right back to how "its the word of god and that it cannot be wrong".
So my advice is yet again. Live your own life the way you would like to but dont you dare go tell people that are otherwise contributing citizens that since they dont believe the same as you that they are not going to make it to heaven. Thats very ignorant and uncalled for. And everyone will agree with me on that. Except the ones that let religion control their lives. They will still YET AGAIN try to push THEIR religion upon others who choose not to believe like them.
Here is my favorite contradicting point that bible thumpers like to throw out. God loves everyone and will forgive everyone, yet if you dont accept him into your life you are know going to hell? LOL sorry I fail to believe that.
I once had a bible tumper mention to me that my friends grandfather who served this country in WWII and was a contributing member to society his whole life never getting on the wrong side of the law, I was told he would go to hell because he did not accept god into his heart before he died. He said "god didn't get me through the war, my guys next to me did". How dare you say something that he is not welcome in heaven because he did not pray to god his whole life. Yet gave you the right to even pray in the first place.
Yet a convicted murderer on death row can been seen on TV going to church in prison and is now going to heaven because he has accepted god into his life.
So much crap right there its not even funny.

Is it infringing on your rights if your kids teachers are reading them books about homosexuality in grammar school, without your consent?

Some people believe that people are born gay. Some people believe it's caused by environment. I don't know if anyone is really sure why, except maybe Wikipedia.
Is there a movement against "this stuff"? The gay pride parades go on every year. Disney does their gay pride event. Home Depot does their gay pride events. There are events celebrating the diversity of homosexuality happening all across this country on a regular basis. Some might say that the movement is to force the gay lifestyle onto our society.

While I don't want teachers pushing my kids toward homosexuality in grade school, I don't want them taught sexuality at all at that age. Not saying that I think abstinence only teaching is right either. There is an appropriate age and time for everything.
The Defense of Marriage Act was passed but that doesn't mean it is Constitutional. Obamacare was passed too but many question its Constitutionality.
I'm not homophobic or anything. I have friends that are gay. I'm fine with their choice and if they want to be husband and husband or wife and wife...I don't care. Their decision to get married doesn't affect my life in the slightest.
Again I don't have to agree with something to be legal. It is legal to have a few drinks and blow a .079999 on a breathalizer but I don't condone it.
I am sure there are a few wing nuts out there pushing their homosexuality on others but there are those in many groups.
I'm a Christian but don't like the message of Rev Phelps either.
Its so Ironic that the people yelling about the government lying and trying to persuade people, are the same people trying to persuade us that if we do not believe what they do that we will not make it to heaven. Essentially saying without actually saying it that we are going to hell.
OH the Irony
