BP fiasco continues!
Com'on guys, we're all grown ups here. No need for any name calling or any personal attacks. I think one thing all of you are missing. The Gulf of Mexico is not a US owned body of water. Yomama just handed the Brazilian Gov't $14,000,000,000 of your tax dollars to develop their offshore oil fields in the Gulf. China already has wells off of Cuba on this same reserve of oil. The reserves full size is not known yet and this was an exploratory rig, not your usual drilling rig. It's already been established that Haliburton used a BOP that was a known defective part. Regardless of any directive from BP, if a sub installs any part, any where, they assume liability for it. That's been industry standards for decades. But what if this was a Chinese rig? Do you really think they'd be in a hurry to fix it? More than likely, they'd pull their people off and it would be an unknown until the oil slick was found. Then who would be fixing it and who would you point the finger at? Yomama has pretty much ignored this until the Democrats, who are putting lots of distance between he and them, got on his case about what was happening on his watch. Obviously, he was asleep as usual dreaming of other ways to part you from yer paycheck. This is his oil spill due to lack of action on his part. Jeez, Bush sent the troops to New Orleans within days after Katrina and caught holy hell for it. Yomama has waited over a month before he got involved and now somebody wants to say it isn't his fault, hello? He should have had a plan working by day 7, not going to the beach several months later and still no plan.
You've been on ignore for a good long while now.
All you do is randomly come to this forum and cause problems. You never have anything useful to add to any conversation, except to poke and prod people who have different views than yourself. That is not how mature adults are supposed to act.
Happy posting, Habs. Glad I won't see any of it, unless I choose to.

Although many have compared Ovomit's handling of this Gulf disaster to Bush's handling of the Katrina aftermath, I recently heard one democratic strategist compare Ovomit's handling of this disaster to Carter's handling of the Iranian Hostage situation. I thought that was a very apt comparison.
BTW, if this disaster had happened during the BUSH administration, the main stream media would have had the key members of the Bush administration covered in this oil and lit on fire by now. But when it involves the Ovomit administration, they get a pass? Can you say MEDIA BIAS?

"I said so."
Can't argue with that kind of elitist narcissism.
Anyhoo Stealth, once you're finished using your crying towel to dry your tears, feel free to answer the question.
The fact is that you can't, so you resort to your childish tactics, smoke and mirrors and bullying.
Here's a little news flash:
The US military is not trained to handle a crisis like this.
This has never happened before, not like this, not this deep, and there is no "plan" to fix things. That's why it's still not fixed.
If BP, one of the largest oil companies in the world, whose entire livelihood is built around drilling for oil, can't figure out a solution, what in the world makes you think that Obama or the US government has such a plan?
<------- Long Awkward Silence -----> that's what I thought your answer was going to be. (you can still resort to your childish behaviour if you don't have anything intelligent to say, I can handle it)
Obama has been working on this since day one. This country's best scientists have been trying to come up with a solution since day one.
Oh great one, if you have a solution then speak up, the world is waiting.
If you don't, then how about a nice big slice of STF UP pie, my treat.
Actually the Navy has the resources to handle the oil slick. They need/use it if a ship goes down. There is literally a boat load of oil on a boat.
I can't offer anything as to shutting off the oil that wouldn't need to be engineered and developed before use. What I can bitch about is the fact that the government has hampered and delayed resources that can be used to keep oil from the Gulf Coast. They refuse to allow people who can help and do have the ability to clean up the oil before it gets to the coast to do any work, until all of their government checklists are complete. Obama has the power and ability to tell the government agencies keeping the resources on the sidelines to allow the resources to get to work, but he doesn't. He can't waste this disaster. Granted the oil will keep coming, but at least they can keep the environmental impacts to a minimum and speed the clean up after the oil is shut off, if they worked on cleaning it as it is coming out.

This is getting serious. We know that the "top kill" method has failed....now we wait for what BP and the govt decides next. I have no confidence in this govt. We have a President whose only claim to fame is being a community organizer and a administration who is a direct relection of himself. All they know how to do is to point fingers. It sad to know so many voted for this POS who is nothing more than a President on training wheels.

As far as Obama and the government delaying clean up activities, BS. Over the past month, Obama and the US government have already done more than 80 burns, where they round up a large quantity of oil on the surface with booms around it and set it on fire. Since day one, they have also orchestrated more than 14,000 ships and vessels in trying to contain this the best they can. They HAVE been working on this since day one, and have been using the resources available as they become available, which is clear to anyone that's been paying attention since day one. While things may be bad, they would have been a hundred times worse were it not for the work Obama and the government has already done, and is continuing to do.
Yeah, that and he passed the largest tax cut in U.S. history, and expanded gun owners rights more than any other president. Damn liberal.

Not true. The only real way this leak will ever be stopped is by drilling a relief well. Until that is completed, the best we can hope for is being able to better control and reclaim the oil that is leaking. Because of the high cost involved, BP agreed to start drilling one relief well, but because of the numerous reasons why a single relief well might fail, Obama ordered BP to drill two of them, just in case. This will put a larger financial burden on BP, but Obama wants this stopped, regardless of cost. The government also has more than 150 of this country's best scientists scrutinizing every aspect of this, and working for a solution. Again, what they have known from the beginning is that a relief well(s) will be the only way to stop this, but until they are completed, they are trying what ever they can to help curb and contain the oil output.

I guess I can't argue with that. You are more up to date on the subject than I. I have been pre occupied with other things, than reading the right article to find that information. I've been under allot of deadlines lately, and haven't kept up as well on current events. This time of year is always just survival for me. But that is about to come to the Summer slump when things slow down. Somtimes I chase down import news that I may have missed, just by reading this forum. There are alot of up to date people here, and the threads here sometimes point me toward News I would normaly miss.
But your still a sorry assed Cannuck
Edit; Just so you know. The last sentence, was an early morning attempt at humor

Current estimates are that the leak is releasing between 12k and 19k barrels of oil into the Gulf every day. That's a hell of a lot more oil than you'll find on any Navy ship. Suggesting the Navy is equipped to handle this mess is like suggesting that you or I could handle it because we know how to clean up a mess we might make when changing the oil in our trucks.

You can call BS all you want. You are not here. You are not seeing what is going on. You are relying on what the national media is telling you is going on, and they are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the administration. I personally SAW the Navy's oil skimming equipment sitting in port for about a month before there were used. I personally saw the Supertanker sitting on the tarmac not being used. I personally talked with the airfield manager and was told why it has not moved. You don't have to believe me, I really don't care. I don't know you and you really don't mean much to me (it's not personal just the way I am). I know some of resources in the area. I know what resources are not being utilized. And I know Obama is being less than truthful when he states he is doing everything he can to clean the mess up. He is not. He is not wasting this disaster. I am expecting tougher laws that do nothing to come out after this is over and done, which is stupid BP wasn't following the laws already on the books. I say enforce those laws first then if problems continue to arise pass more.
What your man Obama has done is equivalent to taking BB guns to war. He has allowed the less effective methods of collection and cleaning of oil to take place while requiring the big guns sit on the sidelines. I don't know the exact capabilities of the Navy oil skimmers, which is why I said they would not be in the major parts of the spill. They would be working along side the shrimp boats cleaning oil. The larger cleaners from Ocean Therapy Solutions can clean over 200 gallons per minute (that's 210,000 gallons of oil per day per ship). If I recall correctly they have 4 of the large ones and several smaller ones in the area, but the last I heard they are waiting for Army Corps of Engineers approval. These two cleaning systems alone could have kept the marshlands and beaches clean, but they weren't being used, they were sitting in dock waiting.

In this forum, there are people of so many different backgrounds, that even with the testoterone and name calling yutsez, you can get more information then on the news.
May origional statment about Obama, probably did come from my bias. I don't like him any more than I liked his two predisessors. But anytime there is credit to be taken, these *****$ try to take credit. They get on the news and try to make it look like they're doing the perfect job. Just like W. did when he had thousands of housing units built, but would overstep FEMA rule, to have them put where they need to be. But the important news is always left in the background by the media. You never get a whole story anywhere.
The show like 20/20 type news shows build themselves around keeping you in suspense to make more dollars, than delivering the news as it would be best for the people.
I know that is a soapbox statement, but the news delivery methods just T's me off.

The Bush White House, with vice president **** Cheney leading the charge, pandered to the oil industry from Day 1. Cheney filled the staff of the Minerals Management Service with "oil industry toadies." As a result, Bush's 2005 energy bill, following a Minerals Management Service recommendation, dropped a requirement that oil companies fit every deepwater oil well with a $500,000 "acoustical regulator" — an automatic shut-off switch that could have prevented the BP spill
Thanks for bringing a little common sense to this thread. That would have been cheap insurance at only $500,000/well. The well that exploded cost $1,000,000/day to lease/operate so the safety device would have added a very small expense. The clean-up and economic damage from this gusher is going to be in the hundreds of billions.
But whatever it takes to squeeze a few more dollars profit for the shareholders.
It boggles my mind how anyone could blame Obama for this. Whatever happened to all that propoganda about how modern high-tech safety devices have made off-shore drilling as safe as filling your car with gas?
See this:
http://www.wimp.com/oilspills/
A lot of news footage from the '70's that shows that the technology of shutting down a gusher has not changed one bit (thanks to industry cost cutting measures).
We have been lied to again. Drill baby, drill!
