Hard to believe a 25,000 gallons of any liquid weighs 12,500 tons. You are saying it weighs 1,000 lbs per gallon. I don't think so.

For reference, A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. Gold weighs about 20 times as much as water by volume. So a gallon of solid gold would weigh about 160 pounds.

A typical gasoline tanker truck carries about 9,000 gallons. So the load in gallons is less than that carried by 3 tanker trucks.

Since BP now confirmed that the "top Kill" failed, I wonder if the Obama administration will distant itself from the failure. The Obama admisistration was hopeful that the "top kill" effort would be successful....since BO said the govt approved the method and the buck stops with him. I guess he screwed up by trying to take credit for the "top kill" procedure prematurely.

Yeah just wait for the new method to stop the leak starts. They plan on cutting off the riser and adding a new valve to stop the leak. Thing is when they cut off the bent to hell riser the fresh cut pipe will leak MORE OIL than before until the valve is put on. Obama better hope this works or hiss *** is in a sling for sure.

Well I'm going to throw my .02 in on the fiasco. It's all due to greed. BP does not spend money on maintenance like they used to. As a matter of fact, they don't even have money for maintenance in the budget any longer. They have to make requests and hope they get approved.

We responded to this leak in January...
http://www.wbtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11838198

They had 3 safety checks and each one failed. AND THEY KNEW THEY WERENT WORKING.

It gets better, we responded to one at BP late last year (Not as bad) and we had to charge it to a project they had going on at another section or they wouldn't have had the money to pay us.

What needs to happen is companies need to start maintaining their crap and it will quit failing. I feel like I will see more of these in the future and we know the only reason weare not in the gulf right now is we are not capable of offshore operations.

I'd also like to point out that BO officially took credit for the clean up and whatever else happens, good or bad. But I'm sure he's got a busy Memorial Day weekend in the Gulf since he's in charge. Wait I mean at Arlington in DC.. wait.....

HA HA (In my best Nelson voice)

Not to mention that aircraft requires a runway at least 10,000 feet long, and then the "Corexit 9500" as Labnerd says, would have to be shipped in. It has a load of 25,000 gallons. Thats 12,500 tons, or about 200 tractor trailers. And it can empty all of that in a matter of seconds. It would require a fleet of about 400-500 semis running around the clock to keep that 747 in the air. Not very practical anymore, is it?

However, that is a neat aircraft, I've never heard of anyone converting a 742 into an aerial tanker!
It HAS already been modified. As far as getting the chemical to the plane it is not such a big ordeal. I-10 runs from Jacksonville through Texas. Not to mention there are several large international airports and military airfields capable of landing the supertanker as well as resupply within range of the area of operation. You are a bit off in your carrying capacities. An interstate gas tanker truck can hold approximately 9000 gallons. Corexit 9500 has a weight of a little less than water (approx 7.91 lbs/gallon). Yes they can dump the plane quickly, however it would be a bit overkill. Kind of like pouring a gallon of gasoline on a campfire to get it started. If they dial it back (which they can do) they can cover approximately 100 miles of spill. Granted the dispersant should not be the first line of clean up, but while the other methods are working closer to the spill sight to gather and clean the majority of the oil, the dispersant can be used to prevent other beaches from being contaminated.

Specifically read item 6 and 11, then scroll down and read what is in it that you and I would be fined if we just throw it out on the ground. The entire thing makes ya wonder if any of these morons have a clue what they are doing. This seems like it's going from bad to worse...and nobody cares that has any power to do anything about it.
I'm confused, the MSDS does not seem to be that bad. Yes sections 6 and 11 are a bit concerning, but the rest makes the product seem rather benign, especially when compared to the oil it is working to help evaporate.

LOL you guys kill me.

If Obama got involved at the start you would be the first guy screaming about big gov always interfering and him sticking his nose where it doesnt belong.

It's a no/win, you hate the guy and will blame him for anything and everything that's wrong in the world.

How exactly is this Obama's fault anyway? Should he have shoved BP out of the way the instant this happened and taken over? What should he have done in your opinion which would have made it right on your book?
Serious question.

You'll never get it, Habs, and I'm weary of trying to explain it over and over to you. This is why you are on my ignore list.

Actually, I wasn't blaming him until he came out and said he had been in charge of it since day one. He asked for any criticism he is getting.

That's such a typical reply from you Stealth.
You're not on my ignore list because you never really say anything worthy that needs to be ignored

Can't take a stab at answering a reasonable question?
You blame Obama, and then when asked what he could've done to make the situation better you come up with this? "Im putting you on ignore"

All the blame will come out eventually but since you're so keen on blaming the big O, here's a little tidbit of info from an online newspaper you might want to mull over:

Enjoy:

The Bush White House, with vice president **** Cheney leading the charge, pandered to the oil industry from Day 1. Cheney filled the staff of the Minerals Management Service with "oil industry toadies." As a result, Bush's 2005 energy bill, following a Minerals Management Service recommendation, dropped a requirement that oil companies fit every deepwater oil well with a $500,000 "acoustical regulator" — an automatic shut-off switch that could have prevented the BP spill

Hell, more should play the game that way, and I'm not just talking about a web forum.

And under Obama's watch people from the MMS were sleeping with and getting jobs with oil companies. Hell Obama didn't know if the director for the MMS resigned or was fired.

No, I'm not an Obama supporter, true. I'm also not a federal government supporter. They are all so corrupt does it really matter who's in charge?

I don't support Obama because I'm not in favor of the government controlling every aspect of, well, everything if he has his way.
