My complaint to McDonalds
This is exactly why I try and eat at Good Times. They only use Colorado raised beef (so their comercials say).

Ok, Well today I got a phone call from a lady. Unfortunately, I do not recall her title. Anyway, she asked me what happened. I explained my position and the reinstated the importance of speaking English. Whether it be because I ordered a diet coke b/c I am diabetic or just to keep me happy. Her response...
"Ok, I understand your complaint. McDonalds does hire a number of Hispanics who work in the kitchen, however, they are supposed to understand English." She went on to say, "The owners of this McDonalds have opened two more since this one opened and they are not spending as much time running that one." Then she admitted, "That this particular store has recently received numerous complaints for the same problem."
Good to know, it's not just me. I still think it will be awhile before I visit again.

First off, with this being America, I applaud your decision and right to inform a company that it needs better services. Even though I am not scheduled to work until thursday, I'm going to put on my Wendy's hat and get on my soap box.
I'm going to say, yes I work at Wendy's. I'm 17 and still loyal with my first job for almost two years. In a nutshell, many people who have never worked fast food don't understand the inner workings of it. I'm going right out and saying that physically, fast food work is (IMO) more demanding than most jobs out there. Not to mention the pay sucks and in my shoes, I meet over 3,000 people a day. There's a pretty good chance some are going to be ticked off from other encounters before coming into that place which sets off a chain reaction. Secondly, I'm not trying to back up Mickey D's at all, but whos to say a new 16 year old on his first day at work wasn't back there making sandwitches? Sure, they should have a more senior employee as quality control, but when you have almost 20 orders at the same time, things can get pretty hectic. Now add in the factor that maybe some other customer has offended an employee. It happens to me a lot and it also affects my work performance. I don't like it to, but it does. Again, I'm not saying you are in the wrong for sending that complaint (sometimes I would like to send a few) but what I am saying is maybe for a minute you should put yourself in that teenagers shoes.
Now onto the language problem. At my work, we have a spanish woman who can speak and understand english, but not suited for customer contact. I believe this is fine. The employees can get along and communicate but putting someone who does not know how to speak English in customer contact is a BAD idea. 'Nuff said.
Who said it is easy? Have you ever been back there? I can personally say that fast food, although it does not seem like it, is again, physically straining. Mentality is a big part here too. Several people working together, one could easily mistake your sandwitch for another that said "ONLY CHEESE" or something along those lines.
EXACTLY. We routinely get complaints. Some big, some small. But I can tell you this- it never happens again. We always improvise if something happens so it doesn't happen again. Let them know they took too long. Then maybe they will hire on an extra person or schedule another shift manager to make sure everyone is keeping their cool and getting the orders right.
And theres something I can't seem to understand about some people as an employee. Some people are allergic to certain things and 99% of the time you will get your sandwitch the way you want it. Personally, I do not like mayo. If I specify and it is on it, I'll eat it. Maybe I'll take some off. But unless you are deathly allergic to it, I just don't understand why people take their time to complain. Maybe because they know they get every item they bought (defective or not) refunded and a free order next time around?

So as bad as everyehere else has it, am I over-reacting? I always try to be decent to the people I encounter and sometimes talk to them just to be personable. But IMHO if you have a job as EASY as ****** McDonalds, and the damn receipt says "No cheese" you should be able to read the damn order and not put ANY ****** cheese on the damn biscuit. THAT IS YOUR ****** JOB!!!
I understand his anger, I also understand that he probably over reacted a little. However if this is something that is repeatedly happening at that mcdonalds then corporate needs to know about it so they can make changes, and his writing a letter might have done just that. I do think that if you are going to have someone working with the public they should at least be able to communicate with them.
i admit i get annoyed when fast food people screw up my order... i usually just let it go. im not the one who will complain to the manager etc..i boucne around from mcdonalds, burger king and wendys so...plenty of options near me.i do agree 100% on employees needing to speak and understand basic english.
I know that when time matters, fast food is an option; however, I normally try to patronize locally-owned restaurants---it may be a tad more expensive, but the food---and the service---is much better---not to mention that I am helping to support the local economy, not some giant corporation. The service tends to be better when people are "putting their name" on everything that they serve.

To the OP, GO FOR YOU... I feel the same way as you.. As a paying customer I EXPECT my order to be correct.. If I wasn't paying for it make it anyway you like, but being my hard earned money bought it, MAKE IT THE WAY I WANT..
Personally McD's isn't going to care about your letter though.. They figure if you stop going there, 2 more families will go tomorrow..
But now if you stop going no sweat off there back, but if 10,000 people stop going that might get there attention...
I understand people do make mistakes but you see it more and more in the fast food industry... When you go to Friday's or Ruby Tuesday's they can mess up your order and they have messed mine up, but no where near the amount of times McD's or Burger King has....
I have noticed that McD's messes up your order a lot more often then burger king..

Wrong.
Lets say Tom has a bad experience and dosent go back. He's so mad he tells 5 friends. Boom. You just lost 6 customers. And who says they spread the word? Soon enough, one turns into many. I can tell you with all seriousness that most places take those complaints serious.
You're getting exactly what you paid for at Mickey Sleeze.
I don't get my hopes too high when getting chow at the golden arches. I wheeled away from the drive thru one day at lunch, got back to work and found there was no meat on my Big Mac. Got the sauce, lettuce, cheese, all that other crap in the stupid jingle, but no meat. Figure that one out.

From my experiences, one of two things:
A.) Some other person (perhaps ordering in front of you or behind you) ordered the same sandwitch, but as a veggie burger. Basically everything except the meat. And they simply forgot which one was the veggie and which one isnt.
B.) The grill operator may have laxed out and didn't lay any meat. Sandwitch maker then prepares XX amounts of sandwitches and waits on meat. Maybe another sandwitch maker comes in and starts wrapping crap.
I've seen both happen several times.
It's not just Mickey D's. Last time I used the drivethrough at BK, I ordered a double whopper with no pickle - they gave me a double whopper with ONLY pickles.
Here is how I have fixed this common problem - I get my lazy *** OUT OF THE TRUCK and go in and order at the counter. Before I leave the counter, I open the bag and inspect every item for correctness. I can't understand a word most employees say through the trashed scratchy speaker outside anyway and I have my doubts whether they can understand ME hollering at the menu board. Another funny thing - quite often, you get faster service at the counter than the drivethrough, most people these days are too goddam lazy to walk in to place a "to go" order.

I tell you what. At our store, we have the crappiest system ever. Speakers are old and used. Not to mention out in the elements where they pick up background noise. Then the number one problem may be the voice. People don't realize how important it is to speak at a slightly elevated voice level, with your head directed towards the mic. Most of the time we will get black people who sit hunched down looking forward mumbling stuff and if you keep asking them to repeat it they don't speak up or anything. Maybe it was the cashiers fault. It happens to me. The "ONLY" "NO" and "ADD" buttons are right next to eachother. My philosophy is when someone orders a custom sandwitch, I will repeat it back to them, not to mention the screen should show the order.
I only read the first page so far but I don't think you are over reacting. I think more people should write letters and let companies know how they feel. One letter may not make a difference but thousands might. McDonalds is a franchise though so writing to the head of the company isn't going to accomplish as much as say writing to the owner of that particular McDonalds Restaurant (if it can be considered that). The owner is the one who's pocket book is directly affected.
How about if you are on a Moped or heck, even a Motorcycle? Most people around here don't take their motorcycle through a drivethru or if they do, they park it next to where they are.
I did a quick search on this... and there is no such animal. Why? Because I know of a lot of places that the lobby closes before the drive thru. I see a lot of people that own bicycles or nothing at all walk up to a drive thru at our banks around here. I could see slew of lawsuits arising if there was ever a law like that.

And yes there is a law on that. We have to deny walk-ups for safety. If there is an obvious reason, such as an oversized vehicle, they can stay in and order and step out for a second, but if you just walk-up with no car in sight, see ya!
/Rant off
That's not so bad. The other day I went to wendy's and ordered 4 meals. Two of them being specials, one plain with bacon and the other a cheese burger plain. I drove off since I never had problems with wendy's and when I got back to the family one kid was happy and the other one nearly cried cause his bacon burger was messed up with cheese. Everyone working there was full blooded english speaking americans too. So I can't just blame those who can't speak english. I was even super nice and respectful too.
Arrogant much?
People eat fast food because it is cheap and convenient. Cheap and convenient are good anytime, and especially nice when you have kids.
I'm guessing you don't have any kids. When you do, and you are juggling your job, a tight budget and getting your kids to and from their various activities, you will find fast food can be a godsend.
Until then, enjoy your hand prepared stir fried tofu and snow peas, and try to think a little better of the rest of us, your inferiors.

I have a friend who is overweight.
I told him I was glad I wasn't in his shoes, getting judged by the public because he was fat.
He said, "Well Raoul, I can lose weight....."

I will agree abou the convience thing. We have 6 people in my house and my mom cooks 99% of our meals. I had Buger King on a field trip 2 weeks ago and that was the first chain food I had had in a long time. Time is everything as DDD said so I can understand why people eat it; I just prefer the luxury of mom's cooking
The red light coils work by inductance not weight. A mass of metal (your car) over the coil changes the inductance in the coil. A lifted truck could be high enough to not vary the field enough to be detected but move a little bit forward or backwards and the differential will trip it.
