Change - Explain Your Thoughts
I absolutely understand the cop reference and agree the only diffrence is that if the cop is out of line a judge steps in and corrects the situation and if the same cop consistently makes these decisions wrong eventually he will get his p p smacked usually by said judge (BTW if nobody has said it yet thank you for the reversal on the red light thread) so here I will let it sit and I will leave on this note
I appreciate you taking the time to go through this
I will try to be good and I wont take it to personally if I get my p p smacked
(please do not read that I will not complain about it
)
and 1 suggestion you may want to sticky this at least for a few days so our absentee members can go through this thread and possibly ask a few questions that we may have missed tonight and/or read to glean understanding from the insight and wisdom contained in these hallowed pages

I dont really see any progress made here at all. Seems to me that while you agree with some points nothing is said about change. I guess this is just an area for the members to vent, hoping they will get out their frustrations and feel good enough to walk the line for another couple months.
It's funny how I get called on the F bomb but you and others use other 4 letter words constantly. I guess its personal preference and not so much the rules anymore.
I hear constantly about keeping it pg-13
Maybe the definition of PG-13 should be checked, this forum is moderated down to a G level.

You're entitled to your opinion, Scott. I respect that. I do take exception to the 4-letter word thing... but, again, an opinion is fine.
I admitted fault and that's all I can do. I am held to the same level of responsibility as the members... it's that simple. I will change.
Also, I don't necessarily agree with the lack of a reference to change. It's mentioned several times from the standpoint of attempting to be more consistent and such.
The 'changes' that are to be made here by the moderator staff will be primarily along the lines of attempting to be more consistent with decisions, moderation, and other 'moderator stuff'. To say that change is going to occur with regards to adult content, language, and other 'stuff' like that would be disrespectful as it would be a blatant lie. Nothing, in that respect, is going to change.
What changes would you like to see beyond what has been mentioned, scott?

Thread stuck. Good idear...

I'm far from an old timer, but at 2 years I know how it has been for a little while. Rules have really tightened down around here in the last 6 months or so. Almost seems like the forum has a generation gap
I got a kick out of the Office Space reference Rock..
I'm not going to go off into a lot of details but I think the main problem is that everyone needs to relax...
Honestly, yeah I think the site has changed a little, but nothing stays the same forever. Would I like for there to be a little more freedom on the site? Yes, but not if that compromised the entire welfare of the site. Sure, for us guys that stick around here for the GD and whatnot- we want the site to stay entertaining, but we have to remember that several new members join each day, usually to ask questions and/or need help.
That makes it important that the site stays entertaining for the elder members to stick around.
I honestly think that once this period of tensity has passed, the site will go back to the way it was. A few people stirred the pot too much and the snowball effect took over from there.
It was suggested by someone that more moderators would help the problem, I agree with that. It seems like you guys don't really have enough time to monitor everything you do. With more moderators, threads would be able to be more thouroughly reviewed, and you could get some context on the situation before it was closed and/or members were banned.
I also agree that there is no room for **** on this site. There is no way the sponsors or the owners would approve of it, and it would only drive some members away. There are other places for that kind of stuff, and a truck site just simply isn't the place.
ETA- Great thread RP, I know a lot of us appreciate the time you put into this place to keep it on the up and up

First off, RP you have always done a top shelf job around here.
Now to the meat and potaoes, I am having trouble putting my finger on the exact problem around her but something had certainly been lost from the time when I first joined. I think it is a mostly a combination of two things.
1) The 97-03 F-150 is now available for very little money. I think we have had an influx of new immature members. These are the same little D-bags that are most often seen running around the mall acting like idiots. They are irritating there just as they are here.
2) Like I said earlier in the now locked thread. It seems there are a few members here that are quite easily offended and are hell bent on making this forum conform to their personal convictions. These are the same people who get very pissy when they are proven incorrect in a discussion.
I can not get into one of my other qualms because of the last line in RP's opening post. 'nuff said.
Here are a few ideas that could really help improve this place (IMO).
Lighten up in the GD area. Let the discussions go for a while. Stopping something because it *might* develop poorly is a bit overbearing. Allow heated dialog so long as the language stays clean (MPAA version of PG-13)
Create a FAQ section. Hopefully this will limit some of the stupid repetitive posts. Really how many times does someone need to ask about tire sizes on a stock truck?
Ax the ****. If someone can't find enough midget donkey **** on the internet they need to get back on the short bus.
Add a couple of more LEVEL HEADED mods to help shuck out the morons.

Again though, what would like to see change?
For the moderation to get lax again? Maybe we've been quick here as of late but, honestly, I bet I only moderated (deleted posts, deleted threads, etc) a total of 5 threads in the past 2 or 3 months -- that is, excluding the very recent past (the past week).
Lots of the moderation has been done via PM, very polite request, and other more simplistic ways. PM'ing on the site is a great way to communicate with folks -- I know you guys know that though, right?
Anyway, we can always try to adjust when an opinion is stated if we feel it's in the best interest of the site, and ultimately, IB but, we'll always depend on you guys, as members, for some direction. I truely believe that this site is only as good as it's members...
We all use PM's all the time and I know you're familar with the system... feel free to PM me if you want to discuss anything. Gotta love PMs.
To think, the site used to not have them enabled...

Getting away from the whole "moderating" thing....
I do have a suggestion, a bunch of the other VBulletin forums I frequent have a "thanks" feature built into the site. There's a button on the bottom of each post labeled "thanks" (next to the quote button), then at the bottom it will show what users said thanks for the post. Then a thanked posts count is kept at the top of each post under where it currently says "Posts: xxxx" .
There are 2 main reasons why this is very useful:
1. It eliminates excess posting. You can thank someone without actually posting the words or the infamous "x2 :
".
2. It shows how valuable the member is, as well as shows how reputable they are. If they have a high number of thanks than they are someone you can trust to give you advice with your truck.
The question really is, are there any reasons why this should not be implemented? I don't believe so. If someone chooses not to use it, then its their prerogative. At least have it there to be taken advantage of by people who it will benefit.

We had it as a 'reputation' thing. It stayed on for probably about a year and then it was discontinued. I disagreed with it being removed but, I understood the reasoning...
In a nutshell, it was becoming a popularity contest with people abusing it. I didn't think it was all that big of a deal, honestly... but, my opinion didn't come through on top with that one.
This is another good starting point to potentially bring it back on line. Let me do some checking with the only folks I know to check with... Good idea...
RP
thank God its only once a month

(and yes I got out what I felt needed to be said so now its
party time )

Good stuff, Wookie (why is it that every time I say 'Wookie' that I want to make that noise that Chewy made in Star Wars?)...
Concurred that threads should be allowed to play out in many cases. Some will never become derailed whereas others happen quickly. It's not fair to assume that everyone will derail. Quintin and I hit back and forth a few times on this one earlier in the thread.
The FAQ section is a good idea and could coincide with the Technical Articles section (which is woefully lacking right now). With the wealth of info that we have on the site, it'd be great to develop something like that but, it takes such a boatload of time -- that no one seems to have. Any volunteers? I bet I can get it loaded to the site if it's done well.
Again, thanks for the post, Wookie. ARrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (poor attempt at a wookie sound).
I haven't been on this site for long at all compared to most people but I have noticed a change in the site in the time I have been a member, mainly I have noticed some (mostly very new) members posting questions and being pretty rude when they don't get the answer they are looking for or are told to search. At the same time some of the older members are very quick to be a little rude with saying "use search" or bashing newer, younger members; and while search is a great feature if everyone always searched there wouldn't exactly be that many posts on here.
I agree that this forum should not become another site for **** and poor language but it does seem that the moderation has become a little more extreme recently and limited discussion somewhat.
Overall this is a great site, by far one of the best I have ever been on. Thank you for all of your hard work in trying to keep it clean and being open to suggestions RockPick.
