I see your point. Actually, I concur with your point. I just don't think that this particular topic is one that really isn't a topic of choice here on the site. It's, simply put, nothing that we'll allow.

References to sex are one thing... much beyond that (and even including that at times), we'll have to do some moderating at our descretion.

Fair enough. I know I'm gonna sound like I'm contradicting myself from earlier, and I am a bit, I've had a minute or two to think things over.

Okay, I won't disagree with the determination that the thread was gonna go to hell, but it should have been killed right there; don't tell folks that "I have a premonition of how this will end," or "I'll give it a few more hours, the boys need to vent." Regardless of the meaning of these words, they aren't gonna sit well with a lot of people, and they're disrespectful to a certain point. Maybe it's just my interpretation, but there's a certain amount of smugness, a certain amount of "I'm-better-than-you" with the way those posts were worded.

Sure, it's just words, it's just the internet, but as a moderator, you're a representative of the site you moderate, you know that better than anyone. Utmost professionalism should be shown; you may be a babysitter, looking over a bunch of kids, but you don't have to act like one to the forum members in the process.

Honestly, given the topic matter at hand, according to past threads rehashed many times, it's not really a negotiable subject at this point and it should have been locked immediately with an explanation (no matter how many times we've heard it), not just "I think this has run its course." Letting the thing run seven pages before a lock, it's almost as if the thread was allowed to go as long as it did for the purpose of entertainment, not for the purpose of airing out a question or a suggestion (as stupid as it was).

 

so if you poke fun at someone, should the thread be deleted?
i mean, if the person didnt think it was funny, it could lead to a verbal fight.
a verbal fight would most likely contain some strong language.
strong language is against the rules, thus needing to be deleted.

it recent threads we were asked not to get into heated discussions about polital views. poking fun at someones political party shouldnt be overlooked either.

 

X2.. it is plenty easy to find ****. why would you need it here on a truck forum? even if it is GD. I sure don't apreciated it. It brings nothing to the table here.

And before you guys do it, don't call me a troll. I don't make threads talking about omg my v6 frontier is sooooooo fast please listen to my talk about my truck omg omg. I simply often compare the frontier to the ranger when the discussion comes about. I do not cram the frontier down peoples throat saying BUY THIS TRUCK YOU MOTHER ****ERS. The one thread i made showcasing pics was because i had just gotten a new cover ( a cover available for the f150 ) and it was very clean so i was showcasing some nice pics i took. If the topic of the fusion is up, and i tell someone to check out the altima, it's not like im telling someone that is trying to get an f150 to get a titan.

There are people like SMIGGS who can never be wrong, and it's plain stupid the way they act like toyota is their first born child. I like nissan sure, but if i could have gotten back into an f150 i would obviously be driving an f150.

People like SMIGGS and Wantsahemi are the asses that get me banned .

 

I understand your frustration, Quintin... To be totally honest, I know that I've used that same 'close out' on a thread or six. Maybe it's not the best way to do it -- like I said, I've done it several times -- but, it happend.

I know that's a horrible explanation. I'm sorry. It's just how it went down... We'll genuinely try to do better. Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all... I sure as heck need to learn that.

 

Poking fun, and being vicious are two totally separate issues. Poking fun is a non-issue...being vicious is a serious issue. As to the verbal fights... Lately, if someone zings me, I have no issue with complementing them. BTW, you must be a Liberal

 

It's tough to apply, rednoved. Common sense has to prevail sometimes... the problem with that is that what is very blatently obvious to one guy is a subject that the next guy is oblivious to...

Consistency is something that we can strive for as moderators but, we'll never be perfect. It remains in the hands of the individual moderator to make the call and attempt to use his/her best judgment. It's subjective... no way to hurdle that one.

 

just to clarify, i agree with this.

i cant recall a time i have posted pictures that would be questionable or even border line. i am pretty good about language. i may have slipped once or twice. i know i did when some random guy called me a tool. haha. and he started it. i just finished.

id be lying if i said i didnt like stirring pots.

 

It's not so much frustration, RP, I think it leans more towards disappointment, with a pinch of frustration. We're all human, and I ain't doubting your grip or anyone elses' on the moderator staff.

Change is inevitable, and usually needs some time for things to settle in. As I said in another thread, I'll reserve (full) judgment until some time passes, see how things pan out in the coming months.

 

i think this site needs either a chatroom or a shoutbox at the top of the discussion forums page. I dont mean a little dinky 200x200 shoutbox. I mean a 300 pixel tall, across the entire page shoutbox, kind of like a chatroom built right into the main forum.

It would result in less stupid threads and maybe a little less chaos.

I've conversed with several folks via PM over the past few days regarding multiple issues. If ANYONE wants to PM me with stuff about the site, I will respond and will be sincere, open, and honest... all I ask is that you don't bark at me and bring your case in a manner that is straight forward and without a level of aggressivness.

 

A shoutbox is just another thing to moderate with some of the childish stuff that has been going on... as for a chatroom, we used to have one. It was RARELY used... became disfunctional after a period of time (and was never fixed because no one even asked about it) and then was eventually removed.

Honestly, I concur that a chatroom would be a good add but, again, what about the people who can't conduct themselves in an adult manner? Really though, to that point, I'm not sure it's even an option now that the Captains have changed.

 

well stealth obviously does nothin but watch this site so he could moderate it .
