I completely understand.

Thanks for your comments, Ian. You've always stood out as a person here that seemed to have a pretty good grip on things here and you've pointed out some good thoughts...

We have a shout box on another forum im on, i constantly have to clean it out to keep it from getting to out dated and too full, its just another thing that the mods would have to keep up.

and with 100,000 + members could you imagine the chaos if everyone "shouted" just once?

I wouldn't say somebody on an f-150 forum with a giant TOYOTA MOTORSPORTS in his sig has a good grip on things .

Honestly, I concur that a chatroom would be a good add but, again, what about the people who can't conduct themselves in an adult manner? Really though, to that point, I'm not sure it's even an option now that the Captains have changed.
How long ago was there a chatroom ?

a buffalo bills forum im a part of has over 100,000 members and they have a shoutbox and it works perfect. I'm not sure why you would have to "clean it out". The shoutbox on this bills forum basically only shows the last 30 or so messages, prob not even that.

I see your point. Actually, I concur with your point. I just don't think that this particular topic is one that really isn't a topic of choice here on the site. It's, simply put, nothing that we'll allow.

References to sex are one thing... much beyond that (and even including that at times), we'll have to do some moderating at our descretion.

-RP-
but see that is where we have to kinda come to some sort of..............balance, I think is the best word for it most of us here are adults no I dont have the exact# but I would venture a guess that the membership is 85-90% over 18
another 8-9% in the 15-18 range and 1-2% under 15 if that, and again its just a guess

and it just seems that the "discretion" is getting skewed further than it was awhile back, now weather or not that is because you are spending more time here, or not or adding a moderator so there is better coverage, and again I don't have the years and years of reference of this site but I have been on many many others and to be fair I have adopted a monkey see monkey do attitude as to post content when I first arrived, hence my skirting of the language filter like using replacement words sound alike words or replacement letters, so when the hammer drops it may seem more harsh due to the shorter time I have been here, but alot of members that have been here much longer than I are saying the same things about it being a little harsher I understood PG-13 to mean this,

A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

this is basically the guideline I thought we were using in conjunction with the automatic language filter if I am incorrect in this I do apologize

The forum used to be really fun. But lately its been kinda blah. Topics are boring. I remember funny treads and some crazy T/A threads. We are all trucks guys and enjoy hanging out and chatting about guy stuff. Some of that guy stuff has course language and is not suitable for children. It just seems like the rules have tightened up and squeezed the fun out of the site.

Wow... pulling out the MPAA rating scale. LOL! Nice...

A literal interpetation of it could be used but, it'll still be tough to moderate it that way... I mean, I'm not going to go through a thread - nor would I expect anyone to expect me to do that in that respect - and count every single tapdance around a F-bomb and conclude that, because two F-bomb side steps would constitute a R rating and thus, in our sense, would have to be removed.... plus, I doubt I could get 2/3'rds of the site's population to join in on a vote. LOL!

I don't know what to say, man. It's subjective and, because we're human, it'll be different on occasion. It's always easy to point out deviations from the 'normal' but, I think it's often overlooked that quite a bit of consistency is also applied... I'm not trying to toot my horn (I'm not that flexible) but, I genuinely try to give it a consistant try - I'll miss it most of the time but, it won't go without trying.

Just gonna throw my .02 in, considering my views on the subject at hand have been expressed already.

I feel a thread like this every so often is not a bad idea. I realize there is the "Site Suggestions" section, but a thread like this in a section everyone ACTUALLY looks at (GD).

As for my site suggestions, need to look into getting the rest of the site fixed, I realize that the powers to be are probably working on it, but I know I haven't been able to use the classifieds section for at least 2 possibly 3 weeks now.

Hey, Cat. Good to see you... it's been a while.

The T/A threads...well, it just has to happen. You're right though, there were some crazy ones (I need to be clear here that the ipod picture in question was nice but, none the less, pushing all aspects of what the site says can be posted -- hahaha!)(LOL -- the nano comment after it was hilarious!)...

I concur that it's a truck site and guys talk about 'guy' stuff... I'm there with you. I've hung out with the Kentucky member guys at our little mini-meets and have cussed like a sailor and kicked back a frosty one or three... but, it just can't happen here.

By no means are we intentionally trying to 'suck the fun out'... it's just how it's been established here and it works/has worked pretty well over the years. I mean, you're a member since 2003... we have several guys that are way older than that too. Plus, we continue to attract new folks and the membership grows.

While we'll always have guys come and go, it's nice to have some of the same faces that can keep a certain level of normalty.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but I will give my likes/dislikes.

a) Finally the Quick Reply works as it should. Instead of having to click on an icon in the post to enable the box to become active.

b) With the classifieds borked, can we set up a separate system? Heck even a sub-domain would work. That was very useful and is dead in the water from the last time I checked 2 weeks ago.

c) Sure there are ppl here that stir the pot. But they provide activity. Without activity you will see this place crash faster than our 401k's have done in the past year. Warnings need to be enforced if severe violations occur.

d) Want to spur up some traffic? Have some contests. Heck even a small prize of $50 bucks in gas would be great fun for us all.

e) A Sticky section would be nice for some things. Rather than having to remember where you seen that tutorial at, simply navigate to that forum. Heck even copy it over to there and lock it.

Hi, guitarman... I concur that it's good for these to occur on occasion -- albeit the ONLY thing that I've done all night ... like four hours now or something... maybe longer.

As for the classifieds... I'm totally there with you. I've had several folks say that they can and can't post there... additionally, I've heard some say that they could, now they can't, then they can again. In short, there's no rhyme or reason why one guy can do it and the next can't. I agree that it's time to get that crap straightened out -- it's way over my head though. They do know about it...

They know about it enough that there's a decent liklihood that you guys will see a buy/sell/trade set of forums because it'd be easier than fixing the broken system apparently.
