The Toyota 4Runners have been catching my eye lately. Really liking the TRD trail edition. Definitely not trading my truck for one though, so I'm trying to talk my wife into trading her car for one. Not going so well thus far

I couldnt produce significantly better daily MPG over my 2014 5.0/6spd

Your truck towed great, but I also don't have a comparison how much of that is 10spd and how much of that is EB......

Plus I've got my Raptor exhaust I'd plan to keep and move over to the 2018 if I go through with it

Toyota 4Runners have been catching my eye lately
Be careful what gets in yer eye. My youngest girl just had to have one despite dear ol' dad telling her no-no-no. Well she has a 2017 Limited and now she understands when dad says no, to pay a lot closer attention. That things is a major POS. The exhaust smell will knock you down and gas mileage is horrible but there's nothing wrong with it per dealer. The rear link is broke- I showed it to her when I was in NC. Nope, it's supposed to be broke. The thing has more rattles than my 91 Bronco or any of the F100s I own. It's about as quiet as a convertible and rides like an old one ton. I would rate the A/C as marginal and certainly would be a major fail in Texas but, the dealer says the pressures are normal, nothing wrong. The interior is basically self destructing as parts are falling off of it. Even the front end sheet metal is out of whack cause some guys were leaning against it at a restaurant- damages are $2800.00 to fix it. She's just about in tears over this pile of junk. So much for Toyota "quality". She's planning on coming home this summer to unload it. One of our friends who owns a Ford dealership is going to sell her a car/truck at invoice and basically do a wholesale deal on it. She'll probably go home in a new F150. So be careful what the eyes want, it may just eat up the wallet.

No matter what anyone says about Ford, I've had the best of luck from them. Second is most Daimler products. My next vehicle will likely be another Ford.

The Highlander/Sienna/RX platform is a great safe chassis, with pretty solid reliability

The new Expedition/Navigator is very intriguing. Should be pretty reliable with a 3.5EB and 10spd behind it. But I think it might be a bit on the big side for a normal urban/suburb commuter vehicle. Unless you really had the need for 3 full sized rows of seats

We don't really need two large vehicles and the Highlander is a perfect size for us. She probably was saying that to see what I'd say. The new Expeditions and Navigators do look good I'll have to admit.

I guess winter has gone for us ...it's been in the mid 80's since last week. Just had to mow the lawn for the second time!

Need opinions, folks.

The A/C compressor is going out in the truck. (Side note - this explains the weird burning smell coming from my air vents). I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but that job is a stretch for me. The shop told me it's a $900 job. This is a local guy I know personally who works exclusively on Fords, so I trust him. Additionally, I'm getting a grinding noise from the front end that I asked him to diagnose. I've already replaced pads and rotors twice since I've owned this truck, most recently about 8 months ago. Not sure if the grinding is brakes or possibly a bearing. Either way, that will have to be addressed as well.

I'm tossing around the idea of just trading the truck in. I've never been one to shy away from a little hard work, and I don't want it to seem like I'm hastily trading it in at the first sign of a significant issue, but I also feel like my confidence in the truck has been shaken a bit. Honestly, I don't feel like dealing with this stuff. Plus, the truck is not paid off - I still have 2 years left on it, so putting over $1,000 in it while I still have a payment doesn't sound so appealing. Truck has 80k miles.

What do you guys think I should do? My dad says I should fix it and carry on (typical dad advice lol). My wife is on board with trading it. I am on the fence. I want to make sure I am not just using this as an excuse to get a new truck lol.

Another thing, the newer trucks are so darn expensive. I don't know if I could get a newer one with the same features and configuration.

Thoughts?

have the shop evacuate your a/c system, then swap the a/c pump in the parking lot and have 'em recharge the system...

Well dang. Now they said the evaporator is leaking, which caused the damage to the compressor because it's been running dry. Have to pull the whole dash and steering column to get to it
