Got a call this afternoon, an old friend in Abilene died unexpectedly. He was a fine body repair and paint guy, had a shop until he retired. Back in about 1983 when I decided to build my 54 F100, I went to him and explained that I wanted if painted in pieces and I would put it together. I wanted a top quality laquer. He said he could do it. We agreed on a price and then he asked where I was going to put it together. I told him I would haul it all to my house. He handed me a key and told me I could come into his shop, use his tools. It turned out great and I made a friend for life. He painted 4 Mustangs and a Galaxy for me after doing the truck. I would go at night and weekends and assemble them. Pablo had no education but he was amazing when he would do an estimate or a trade. All the numbers in his head. His English was not great but he could understand everything he was told. When he wanted to buy a new home and could not get a loan, I called my banker and explained the situation. He made the loan and Pablo(Paul) paid it off early. I started doing his tax work when he found out I was a CPA. He called me last Thurs and we discussed an offer he received on some property, talked about an hour. This morning, dropped dead, heart failure. His son called to tell me, I will drive back from Athens Thurs afternoon, pick IP my wife and drive on to Abilene for the Wake. You just never know when your time is at hand, he was 71.
