Thanks for the positive comments om my CB-equipped L. I searched far and wide for the appropriate antenna mount as it would be visible and I didn't want to spoil the good looks of my L. I finally found that mount(sorry, can't remember its name or where I got it) and matched it with a Wilson Trucker antenna and also installed a quick-disconnect that allows me to remove the antenna with just a twist of the wrist. The mount just clamps onto the bed's front rail and has never come loose.

It took me a while to find the appropriate radio mount too. I ended up mounting the radio between two brackets that support the CB on top of the trans hump. One bracket has the console bolt through it making the rig stable. Doing this, I did not have to drill through any of the interior pieces.

I used my newly-mounted CB for the first time this morning. By happen-stance my friend left his yard right as I passed him and we immediately switched to our priv. channel (my lucky #4, truckers like to hog one-niner since we're next to a highway) and talked on the way to school. I have an aftermarket armrest on my 60/40 split bench seats and i vertically mounted my little Maxon CB-30 below the change holder. I also removed two of the manufacturing screws and put the mic clamp directly on the radio itself. Only bad thing is when gonig into 4th (I have a manual trannie) my stick lightly smacks the mic, so I have to pull the seat back a notch. I have a short 1-1/2 foot anntenna that I put on the fender of my trucks right wheel well (I can't put on my roof as my garage is too short for it) and I have the wire running through my sliding rear windows. Pretty good for only $30. I also use it to talk to my dad when he's riding his Harley and I'm following with the trailer.

Well, everyone has had their turn bashing Daveg99, but I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Dave. He has done me a big favor by starting this thread. I was surfing around the site soaking up info about my new truck and I happened upon this thread.

And then I thought...hey. I have a CB, in a box, somewhere in the attic. I haven't used it in quite a while, primarily because I haven't had much of a need for it and haven't had the space for a decent install. So I went digging and found it. Going to have to pick up a few things, but it'll be in my truck and being used.

Thanks for reminding me Dave!

hey lightninrod, how did you mount your antenna, you said it clamps on the front bed rail. that is what i have been looking for a couple years now. i have a mag mount on my roof, by always gets ripped off by tree branches. the lower mounting would solve this problem, and look better.
i also don't know what daveg99 is talking about, just in my town alone 3 out of 5 trucks (cars not included) have cb's in them. then again our town made news paper for eating squirell!! cbs provide the best update and accurate traffic info (including cop positions), and they can be fun, never have a truck with out one!!!!

when all the cell towers go out because of computer glicthes or satelite problems... the CB will be one of the best ways to communicate. Think of all the other computer run commications.. all useless .
You can make some wicked feedback with the right linear and antenna>>>>> on those annoying thumpers at the red light.. BONUS
good enough reasons for a CB?

KD: I just spent 40 minutes trying to find my CB antenna mount via Google and couldn't find it I can't remember the name of the company that made it. At the time I bought it, it was a small company and I think that mount was their only product.... It really works great and if I ever come up with its name, I surely will post it for you.

To make it even worse, here's my L and the mount:

haha, yes I remember when this came up. I think its come up in other threads too.
I had a CB all through high school; all my buddies and I used to talk on it before/after school and find each other on the weekends. It was fun; much more so than cell phones.
