I have no idea why this is in the "Suspensions" forum. But I'm 18 and just graduated High school. I have no idea how you fawking kids are affording these trucks

I'm 16 (17 in a week or something) Junior in HS. I got a 07 Fx4... Working and paying the monthly with my own money... buying all the mods. but it is going to be hard to afford lift, rims, and tires lol

I'm 19, I just finished school last year. When I was in high school I drove my parents car to school, then to work 7 days a week till I saved up enough to buy my old 1993 F150(took me about 5 months). I paid for the truck, the gas, the insurance and the moods. Then I graduated, went to work and less then a year after I bought my new one, and again I've paided for the truck, the mods, and anything to do with it. So before you decide to judge a young guy with a nice truck maybe you should think about it alittle. Just cause I am 19 and drive a brand new truck doesn't mean my daddy went out and bought it for me, and it doesn't mean I powerslide every possible cornor and burn as many doughnuts as I can in a day or cruise around at speeds that would make you sick. It might suprise some of you guys who posted about the stereotypes, but like I said, I paid for my own trucks, and I drive civil. I also take really good care of my truck, its washed everytime it gets even just alittle dirty, and it never misses a service. I think its a shame the stereotypes had to come up, yes I will admit theres alot of stupid young people out there driving terrible in vehicles that their parents bought them, but most of those kids are driving Honda Civics or old Sunfires, and they only make it about 2 months before they ruin their car and are riding the bus again. Most of the kids with nice vehicles respect them.
A few comments
First: When I hear of highschoolers working a million dollars per week to make payments on, modify, and keep gas in a 35K or even 25K full sized pickup, I admire the hardwork and dedication and I know it builds character but think the efforts are sadly misguided at the same time. My parents could have bought me a really nice truck any time but I got nothing in highschool and got a used 5 year old 4 cyl. Ranger 1st year in college. I was able to enjoy being that age and do stuff everybody else was doing instead of going to school and then working 25 hours a week on top of that because I had a reasonable vehicle that I could run and maintain cheaply rather than a money-pit that required me to spend all the most fun years of life working my butt off. I held onto it for the first year and a half after I graduated and start working and was able to accomplish lots of financial goals because I had good income and a cheap to maintain vehicle.
I drive something MUCH nicer now that still isn't as nice as what alot of you guys drive, but I also pay all my own bills and have a Roth IRA and a 401K.
2nd: I cringe when I think of how much money you guys could be pumping into investments and how much of a pay off you'd see by the time you were 30-35 if you took these thousands of dollars, settled for cheaper vehicles, and started investment accounts. To me it teaches you the wrong principles about money and life to have you working your butts off after school to pay for material stuff that really shouldn't be a priority at this stage in life. Message being, 'work hard so you can throw alot of cash you'll never see again at something that looses value', when it should be 'work hard so you can put your money to work for you.' But I guess if there's a huge nesteg somewhere out there for you to inherit then many of you figure why build one for yourself when you can just pump every penny you have coming in into gas and toys for your truck and wait for your trust fund.
3rd: Any child I ever have can live rent free with me well into their 20s if they want as long as they're saving money and building their finances the way they should be. If I see a 38000 dollar truck with 5K in mods or pretty much anything at all more than a 5-10K used vehicle pull up in the driveway one day with you at the wheel, the assumption will be that if you can afford that then you can afford to be like most grown adults who drive really nice vehicles and balance it with house and utility payments and other living expenses. Therefore you will be sent out apartment shopping before you know it.
Just my opinion. Nothing personal towards anybody and you all have nice trucks that make me jealous. I just think it's silly for a high-schooler to be saddled with such an expensive vehicle at that point in their lifes. Misguided parents raising misguided kids.

Maybe its enjoyable to have a nice truck, take pride in the mods you put on it....
Ever think about that?
I'd rather spend all my money on my truck because its what I enjoy to do. I enjoy washing and detailing the ****er, and that takes hours. But hey, I like it, so Im gonna do it.
To those of you out there that have these nice trucks congrats, to those of you who paid for them here's a pat on the back, even for those of you that get'em from momma and daddy that drive'em like you stole'em good job. But it is those people who feel the need to belittle others whose parents can do the same that’s just stupid. But attacking someone who made a valid point that you chose to misconstrue because you have a chip on your shoulder and think you deserve everything that’s GIVEN to you. . . Grow up what are you still 15 and need to validate your feelings of inadequacy by bulling a man who is stating an opinion, if that’s hating then everyone who has the freedom of speech, or a mind to think with is "hating" grow up and learn about the real world, Because an attitude like you have and a good work ethic in this world amounts to jack *****. Attitude, work ethic, self reliance, and a good personality will get you ahead. You have a nice truck, yes you appreciate it that’s great there is no need to put yourself on a pedestal because you did house chores, son you would have no clue what real work is and don’t try to act like you would. I am almost embarrassed for you. You can return with whatever smart @ss comment you need to, to make yourself feel better about your petty little world but all I have heard from you so far is spoiled rotten garbage. Oh and dennisfranz I fully understood what you were saying, though it a shame some people can tangle reality into such a bind that up is down ,and left is right, and try and convince you of the same. But again to you kids have a good time with your toys if you've got'em enjoy them, but remember there is more to life.
