Dear Kobi,

I have been a reader/follower ever since day one, when you started the 'Dear Kobi' column (Friday). While you have done a fantastic job throughout the days, I feel you need to finally take some time off. Reason being, when Dzervit asked you if anyone had asked what your GF had done that prompted the start of this thread, you replied that no, no one had asked that question. Here is the part the troubles me. You stated that no one had asked until you did, Dzervit. Do you see the problem with that ? He didn't ask that question. He asked if anyone else had asked the question.

I feel you should take two or three hours off from the advice column/thread, and catch up on your sleep. Drink some green tea. Go have your car detailed.

Well that doesn't seem very Zen-like. I'm afraid if he isn't careful, he might become complacent with his advice. The edge might wear off. He might become like *GASP* Dear Abby. Next thing you know, He's really at the golf course, while Crazd3D is ghost writing his column for a minimal fee.

Dear Kobi

Will we ever land a man on Mars? I know there has been talk about it. If so, what will be the technology that gets us there?

Also...what do you do for a living??

I knew you'd do that...

Soo... What did you fight over to get your GF PO'd, thus creating this very entertaining and informative thread?

Dear NetWurker -

Thanks for being there, reading the thread since day one. Yeah, it seems like only yesterday, but it really was last Friday. Just think, we'll be coming up on the one week anniversary soon! BIG PARTY!

First, let me say "Thank you" for your concern for my well-being.

While I see your point, and in the strictest literal sense, you are correct, please be aware that I was addressing both the explicit as well as the implicit subjects of D's question.

Granted, the "correct" response would have been:

"Nope! No one has asked."

. . . and to leave it at that, but answering in such a manner makes me sound like a smart-***, and as we know . . . that's not my style.

Therefore, I added a reference to the implied (at least I'm assuming that the implied was . . . "So, Kobi . . . what ticked her off?" and acknowledged it, feeling that that was the appropriate thing to do.

Good catch there Net Wurker, however, in this case, I think either way is correct.

Kobi-

Edited to add: See!!!! Directly above D wirtes: "Soo... What did you fight over to get your GF PO'd, thus creating this very entertaining and informative thread?" I knew that was implied!

Dear 3valve -

As you may remember from one of my earlier replies in this thread, I stated I'm not prescient (see post # 91 ).

That said 3V, there has been talk of "landing" a man on Mars ever since I was a little Kobi back in the 60's. As for whether or not it will happen in your lifetime . . . well, I don't know how old you are, but chances are, probably not . . . in your lifetime, that is.

Will it ever happen? Probably.

As for "what will be the technology that gets us there"? I'm gonna assume rocket-science. The guys responsible will say "Why yes, yes I am a rocket scientist."

Kobi-

ETA: As for what I do for a living . . . . at present, nothing (see my profile . . . it sez "professionally unemployed). However it's been a few years and I'm bored out of my mind. This is fun actually, so if anyone here works for a newspaper (or knows anyone that works for a newspaper) that needs a column where anybody can ask any question, no matter how absurd, and have someone such as ME writing pithy, clever, and cool answers back, I'm available. As you can see, I can handle anything from farting to the General Theory of Relativity, so I've pretty much got everything covered (except gross tentacle looking things found in rivers . . . ) Could turn into a big international syndication thing if played properly, which means big bucks for the paper (and me).

Anyone?

Well I had a conspiracy theory newsletter that I could fit you in, but I have a feeling that the "snooze button manufacturers" will be along shortly to make all my evidence disappear. You should try Maxim, they are always receiving absurd questions and your answers are at least as entertaining as the stuff they reply with.

Thanks fatman66. I've never read Maxim, but I'll check it out. (That's not like Penthouse or Hustler or something like that, is it?) (See, I don't know everyting).

Dear dzervit -

While I'm happy to disclose certain information about myself - such as, I'm good looking, fun to be with, where I travel, sort of where I live, and what kind of car I drive - I don't go into details about the GF or interactions (or lack thereof) with her . . . (mostly becasue she owns my *** and I know what's good for me). So, I'm not going there.

Thanks for asking though.

Oh . . . she's calling me . . . I gotta go!

I gotcha. I had the same conversation myself last night.

If you ever care to take the discussion off the boards...

OOH! Actual question

Dear kobi,
I am entering college this year & am living at home for financial reasons (I'm a cheap SOB). I realize that college parties don't generally coincide with my curfew (2am? ish) should I ask my parents if I can stay @ friends' apartments or ask if I can come home in the morning...when I sober up?
Yours truly,
CrAz3D
Dear CrAz3D -

Before I address your query, I have to ask, and this is a general question so it's open to anybody . . . what is up with "3" being "E"?

Who started that? Is it a hip-hop thing? And I mean, really, why?

OK, now that that is out of the way, you question gives me an opportunity to practice my "Maxim" style answers (as I assume Maxim to be a Men's Live Hard, Die Young, Leave a Good Looking Corpse, kind of publication).

Yo CrAz3D !!!

Nothing wrong with living at home to save the benjamins! I'd live at home too (if my parents weren't dead . . . and NO . . . I didn't kill them!) to save some cash, and I'm 46! So don't be puttin' yourself down by calling yourself a cheap SOB, that's uncool! You're FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE ! (This might actually look good on a resume by the way:

2003-2006 Managed Home For Parents Inc.
Profits grew 1048% under management. (you don't need to tell them you started out with just one dollar in your savings account).

It shows managerial skills and that you are fiscally responsible.

Curfew ?!?! The Hell ?!?!?! Dude ! What are you ?!?! 12 ?!?!?!

My advice . . . Party till you drop, man!!!! That way you don't have to worry about what you say to your parents, or what they think, because you'll be unconscious!!!!

Rock on!! Now where did I leave that acid!?!?!?!

Actually, as a responsible 46 year old father of two . . . . OK, I'm not a father of anybody (and please, don't anybody come back with the cliche "As far as you know" line) , I offer the following advice:

First . . . you're not in college yet . . . so, unless you've failed a number of times and were held back, it's a good guess you're not of drinking age (what is it . . . 21 . . nationwide?) Honestly, I wouldn't know, I don't drink, I never did. All alcohol tastes terrible to me and I figure I've saved Eleventy Kabillion (thanks by the way for whoever wrote that number in one of the threads...it cracks me up) dollars just by not buying booze all these years. Now THAT'S fiscally responsible !!

Be that as it may. If you're going to go out and party . . . A) Try to do it responsibly.

If that isn't going to happen, and it sounds like it isn't, then I have a question about how you asked your question:

your wrote: "should I ask my parents if I can stay @ friends' apartments or ask if I can come home in the morning...when I sober up?"

The way you worded this is sounds to me like you're asking if you should ask your parents . . . "Hey, Mom and Dad; mind if I don't come home tonight but instead come home in the morning after I'm sober?"

Now if I were your dad (and I'm certainly old enough to be) I can pretty much guarantee you that I'd say "NO".

So, if you're going to engage in illegal activity anyway, might as well just lie to your parents and say "Hey, Mom and Dad, I'm going to go out to the movies with Wally and Eddie Haskel, and we're going to stay at Eddie's place afterwards, and don't worry, his mom will be there (although honestly, I wouldn't recommend doing that.) Also, you might not want to mention that Eddie's mom is the sister of that woman who was just busted for having sex parties for all her son's friends because she wanted to be a cool mom.

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive...partymom1.html

Seriously though, if you're going to do the drinking thing, you kids BETTER HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER. (all you have to do is go through some of the posts on this forum to find the tragic tales of young ones who have lost their lives while driving after partying. DON'T BECOME ONE OF THEM).
