I don't notice the raspiness on mine at higher end. I went 2.5" front to rear, high flows, x, and 4x14 magnapacks and I really think mine sounds very similar to captain awesome's, even with the different motors and mufflers...

Well, I guess I'm the odd man out then. No raspiness at all on my setup.

On the other hand, I have heard a couple Borla setups that I'd consider 'raspy'-er than the Magnapacks setup on my truck.

I reckon, 'raspy' is a very subjective term.

I only have 2200 miles of Maggie experience under my belt, but I've not heard anything I would consider raspy either. Only once have
I had it anywhere near 4000 rpm and I was driving, so not 100% sure what it would have
sounded like outside. I can't imagine what you fellas are doin if your concern is how the truck sounds at 5000+rpm...these aren't crotch
rockets!!!

nice vid ryan. I'm gonna start slowing buying some kick *** magnapack set up like that over the coming weeks. BUT here's how jank my set up is now, i've just now finally got under there and really took a closer look at what my exhaust shop did. I've got factory everything from the Y pipe back, a 2.5" midpipe and they welded a 3" pipe about 2 feet from the muffler to fit the muffler's 3" inlet, then it has dual outlet 2.25" (i believe, just took a quick measurement) tailpipes to 3x18" chrome tips out the back. Very differing numbers...but it sounds alright to be honest but I want aggressiveness like 08FX4's vids or yours, Ryan.

Factory Y > 3" midpipe > 3"/3" Magnapack (#14419) > 2.5" tails 45'd behind the rear tires > 18" rolled tip Maggie tips.

This is the setup on my 2010 FX4, same as 08FX4's, only difference being 08Fx4 also had high-flow cats installed.

Not sure why, but it seems like my SI/DO Magnapack setup is louder outside than the Magnapack True Duals I have seen videos of. Maybe it is just the videos. If you want a consistent "Roar/Howl", than check out the Borla XR-1.

Hope this helps.

I would have to get a maggie y pipe for the end of the magnapack correct? Since it is a SISO. How would that fit if my tailpipes are 2.5"?

Yes. You don't need a SI/DO muffler.

The Maggie Y-Pipe I used is 3" in and 2.5" out.

Cool, thanks for helping me. I'll probably do 08FX4's set up except I will keep my 3x18" tips and tailpipes to save $$$. I agree, from what I hear on videos at least the dual magnapacks with H or X pipe don't sound nearly as good as 08's. My buddy recently got duals to X pipe to Flowmaster Super 44's and he claims my simple Flow 40's SIDO is far better sounding than his. Who knows? I think it's just after a while you get used to your own truck and only pick up on other guy's exhausts. On a pickup truck, I just don't believe a crossover will do you much good. It's a truck, not a race car (unless you have a blower lol).

Hey,Fellas
I just ordered my Borla 40842-S. Those Magnaflows sound great too by the way. I am going to do a SI/SO delete the resonator. I really liked the way Capt. Awesomes sounds. I will make a vid when I get done. I hope it turns out good, Ive never tried Borla before. My truck is a 2012 FX2 5.0.

I went with a 3" SISO Magnapack with a Y pipe split to my tails. Very satisfied. High flows going on sometime this week. Videos to come! Should be pretty nasty!! Ford power.

Im a for Borla. I had the afe 3" catback for about 6 months before I switched it but that was due to the drone at highway speeds with the AFE. Both sound awesome and I love the sound of my borla. I know if I had a stock exhaust my gas mileage would probably be a lot better but I jump on it all the time just to hear it. I also like to use my tow/haul mode button when going down a slow hill to hear the awesome sound that comes out of that borla is just awesome. My system is just a catback system that I did in my driveway.

When I switched out my XR1 for the Magnapack, the guy who installed it made mention of how much deeper the Maggie sounded than the XR1.

I am still torn between what I will try next. This is what I am looking at so far (not to thread hijack!):

1. SI/DO 3"-3" SS Dynomax Bullet.
2. SI/DO 3"-3" Borla 40085 (Round).
3. SI/DO 3"-3" Corsa "modded" system.

This question is for anyone really but I'm asking Arklight cause I know that he has had the XR1 on his truck. Here goes.

Within the next week or two I want to get a borla XR-1 si/so 3" inlet/3" outlet for my truck. I am torn between the round body or the oval body (part numbers 40943 and 40085)

I am concerned with the possibility of drone especially at highway speeds of 60-70mph ( I drive like a gramp and its too expensive to drive fast lol) and I read your reviews on the exhausts you have had on your truck. Which XR-1 were you using and based off of your experiences with that muffler which would you recommend?

And for the record I am planning on mounting this muffler as far back as I can and removing the resonator. The truck is a '12 S'Crew 5.0 if that makes a difference.
