Borla looks like the winner but damn does it cost some $$$!! Looks like i'll be hanging on to my SIDO Flowmaster 40 for a while! I guess i'll keep dreaming...i'd like to have a killer H-pipe set up of something soon though. I don't have a problem with Flowmasters, to me they sound good overall.

Well, that was anticlimactic! All of that, 3 pages of great replies, and he's staying where he is.

At least there's good info in the thread from which others in a similar dilemma can glean.

FWIW, I haven't noticed a bit of raspiness or crackling at any RPM with my Magnapacks. Maybe it's more evident in oval bodies?

Of course, there's the occasional 'pop' when revving after a cold start, but you'll get that with most aftermarket setups.

I guess ol' Dave wants to be like those other guys after all - being 'top dog' is important

It must be a 4.6 thing. Back when I had the Magnapacks and now with 11" oval bodies still get a bit of rasp, but just enough to sound exotic. 5.4's have always had a smooth and mellow tone while the 4.6's have always been higher pitched.

Ah! Maybe that's it. You have the 2.25" piping too, correct?

Naa it's across the 5.4 too... I get the raspiness. There are too many variables to even pinpoint something like that. It's got to be the nature of the mufflers and then placement, pipe size ect must come into play. My 3v 5.4 definitely gets raspy with the maggie over 2300-2500+

If you promise to never say 'don't hate' again, I promise not to 'hate'.

I agree with Borla over Magnaflow. I swear that the Borla single setup that was on my truck had a much better sound than the magnaflow true dual setup that is on the truck right now. Troyer is a Magnaflow guy, so that's what he wanted to use. I wish now that I would have stuck with Borla. Raspy sound is perfect example of what it sounds like at certain rpms.
