I'd get an fx4 and call it a day. Get the 5.0 and when more mods come out go to town. You already have a crazy rig, I'd say grab up a good deal if you see one and can afford it

...This is what my reasonable side tells me; the other (more predominant half ) says I only live once and only have one chance to own a raptor...

Hopefully Desert Dawg buys before me, it will make me feel better about my decision (I am betting he goes raptor )

i wanted a Raptor too was going to pull the trigger in the fall but the family ride died. so couldn't wait the 4 months for one to be built. there was two that i could of got off a dealer but where not the color or had all options i wanted. if i'am going to drop that kind of coin on a truck i'am going to get what i want. plus from the sound of it there just going to get better in the next couple of years before there SVT life span runs out. with the popularity of them they mite be around a little longer too.so got a FX4 with the 5.0L for now and love it. but there mite be a trade in my future.

I dunno....sorry to say, I am wavering. The "engineer" in me (yes, I really am an engineer....lol) is screaming to be more logical and efficient (relatively speaking since we are talking about trucks, not hybrid cars), and darn if that EcoBoost doesn’t keep creeping up in my mind. I thought if I was going to go that route, I would opt for the Platinum.

But I went back to the dealership, and they had 2 EcoBoost FX4s (which was not good for me since I really love the FX4 package too). One was in the Blue Flame (woohoo!) and the other in the Candy Red. I was surprised how much I liked the monotone candy metallic with black trim.....really popped. I thought I was sold on the Flame Blue (at least for sure on the Raptor).

So I got home and started calculating with X-Plan pricing and some dealer discounting I know I can get, and all of a sudden I realized how much more attractive the price would be. I can be driving a brand new FX4 that also performs really well with EocBoost and gets half decent mileage (for a truck). I then did a quick spreadsheet on mileage scenarios between the 6.2L Raptor and the 3.7L EcoBoost FX4. I ran various gas price and mileage (driven weekly) scenarios and figured out that the Raptor will cost me between $85 to almost $200 extra in fuel every month, not to mention the big delta (savings) in buying the FX4 versus the Raptor.

It’s hopeless, despite the reasonable thinking and proving the numbers don’t lie, I am still stuck on the Raptor.

The price of an FX4 is WAY more attractive, but the raptor's looks are WAY more attractive!

I cruised all the local dealers lots tonight... no FX4's to speak of in this town.. Nearly every dealer has only plats and lariats with 6.2's, and a bunch of XLT's with the 5.0. I only came across 1 EB in about 600 trucks..

I am trying to lean more towards the FX4 for the initial savings on the truck, fuel and having about a 100 mile roundtrip commute daily. Everytime I see a raptor though I am pulled back to the dark side, then I have to think how much a 8-900 a month payment would suck on top of a 2-400 a month gas bill.

I hear ya. I could buy the Raptor and not use it as a daily vehicle (as they sure weren't designed for commuting...lol) but the thought of having it sit in the garage all week doesn't make sense to me either (unless you really do buy it just for Baja racing on weekends ). If I am going to buy it then I am going to want to drive it. The weekend toy that sits in the garage is going to be my restored muscle car, Bronco, or Corvette, not my very comfortable and cool looking modern day Ford truck…lol. But you drive a lot more...100 miles a day is a lot so driving the Raptor every day really doesn't make sense, especially as gas goes near or over $4/gal. But even at half that, it's still an expensive commute. And yes, spending $1200 a month to drive a truck is not pocket change. Which is why the EcoBoost FX4 does make sense and why it still slips into my mind. I should have kept my new FX4 but I knew I wanted one of the newer engines too.

I hear ya about having it sit around, I feel bad because I have my current rig sitting in reserve right now. I am rolling in an edge at the moment, just use the truck on nice days or when I need a truck.

Did you already sell off the last truck you had, the grey/white nbs F150?

Yeah, I sold it on eBay. I knew that I wanted the new engines (really got tired of the 5.4L) so I put it on eBay to see if I could generate enough interest at a price that would cover everything I had in it. It sold in 3 days....lol.

So been driving my Touareg around. It is pretty cool since it has the Audi sourced 4.2L V8 (really moves) and air suspension (can raise to 11 inches clearance for off-roading and it automatically lowers for high speed travel), and is fully loaded with everything you can order, but still dying to get back into my truck. Here's my driveway pic:

But heck with all that, check out what I drove today:

Actually, that shot was taken in the driveway of my other house that I am renting out so the Ferrari F430 belongs to my tenant. He asked if I wanted to drive it and I said hell yes. So we lowered the top and fired it up....what a screamer! We had it up to 165 mph before hitting some traffic, but it was just amazing. The car doesn't accelerate, it explodes! Scary fast but oh so fun. I drove it for over an hour today to the mountains and back. The cool thing is that a good friend of mine is a cop, and he and his son (my kid's best friend) saw me and totally freaked out when they found it was me. What a riot!

What a cool day...totally made me forget about the Raptor....lol.

Nice job on the sell! Sweet rides!

In a Ferrari who cares about a raptor! I am not familiar with Ferrari's but if they are like newer vettes and can have gobs of power and still pull down 20-30 mpg's I'd be down for one.

It also looks like ABQ is booming with new construction, new exciting things possibly? The only thing I couldn't handle about desert areas is the 'xeriscaping', but after a while in Las Vegas I didn't seem to noticed it as much.

hehe.....nope, no lie. I used to deliver grey market Ferraris and Porsches years ago but never drove a machine like this. Just amazing.

Well, let's just say it takes a Corvette ZR1 to do what this Ferrari will do. But yeah, the Corvettes (non-ZR1) will still deliver really decent mileage unlike this beast. I have owned 5 Corvettes before, and driven older Ferraris, and they were fast but not not like this. Anyway, it was a treat.

Yeah, ABQ has grown a lot but nothing like Vegas. But I would take ABQ over Las Vegas any day....way too hot over there, although my wife and I do enjoy our weekend vacations in Vegas.....lol. I actually have to travel out to the government sites out there (Nevada Test Site and Yucca Mountain) for work and it always amazes me how barren it really is once you leave Vegas.

Shying away from the Raptor? What is going on in here! I saw this thread at page one near the top and thought someone bought a raptor! Here is talk about a FX4 EB and being reasonable? Just giving ya guys a hard time as I am in the same boat now. Test drove a FX4 EB and a Platinum 6.2, also a few diesels(on the fence) I would/am going with the 6.2 for mods sake and just sheer power this truck has. I know I would S/C it after 3-4 years so the power it would than have over the EB would be nail in the coffin. It is a hard choice and with truck prices anymore makes me want to get a bike for the MPG, power, rush, thrill ride, LOL!

hehe...well, I am glad you brought up thinking about the diesel because that was also on my mind but didn't want to sound more wishy washy than I already am....lol.

Yeah, I do keep coming back to the 6.2L for same reasons, but money does talk; 15 mpg and lower entry fee on a Platnium or FX4 (A or X plan) versus a fully loaded Raptor (with no discounting) that only gets 11 mpg really makes me pause. Also, I have convinced myself that I can mod a regular F150 with the EcoBoost to look really good and still be a reasonable daily driver.

I find this whole thing quite amusing for myself. I have bought and sold over 60+ personal vehicles for myself, and as most know of me on this forum (and many other forums for different makes) I change vehicles as often as I change my oil, but I am stresing out on this one. Either I am finally getting older, trying to be more reasonable with my money and the environment, or both.

Then I look at all the Raptor pics and think about that 6.2L V8 and go right back to where I started...lol.

Wishy washy not at all! I am in the same boat, doing the same thing with each truck. I plan to get one at the end of the year and just some pre planning on my part.

This is me talking, yet I settled for a truck and other things in my life. Looking back, yes it did help me not get everything I wanted. Now I want I get, LOL. If I can afford it and want it and not have to worry about it, I purchase it. It is nerve racking though in this case as ford has 3 new motors and each motor option comes with different options. It all comes down to what do you ultimately want. Plan to do with the truck, how long you plan to keep it. Too many damn variables (starting to be a day job ) The raptor has the nice/same interior as a platinum, IMO. So it comes down to EB or 6.2 and to me for how ford is going to be with the EB 6.2 is the way to go! I am sure with a tune, intake, and exhaust the raptor will get 15-18 MPG. The EB will get 20MPG? Is having a truck that gets 2-5MPG ($100 a month more in gas?) worth it for not getting the truck you really want? That is how I am looking at this.

Yet, for me I am 99.9% sure a diesel is my choice. As my current truck will be the new toy and built up (better than a raptor). So makes my choice a little bit better. Even if I did not have my current truck, I would still get the
F350 and add carli suspension to it. Than pay it off, have it in the garage and buy another one or something to replace it in four years.
