Somebody slap me....
hehe...you're killing me!
Yeah, don't expect an EB in a Raptor any time soon.
I had dreams today about buying the Platinum, putting on a 2.5-inch leveling system with aftermarket wheels and BFG ATs to keep the sophisticated upscale look but give it a more purposeful stance (kind of like my old 2007 King Ranch setup). But not being able to correct for the larger tires, or even go with an aftermarket exhaust, is somewhat problematic and no way would I mess around with the warranty as these trucks are getting too pricey to risk (with my luck anyway). But dang, I can get X-Plan pricing or better (non-SVT vehicle) along with the rebates so it really makes it an enticing decision (along with the EcoBoost performance).
Also, I am getting older and the thought of having another 4- or 6- inch lifted truck isn't as appealing as it used to be....lol. That is why the Raptor would be a good choice as it already has an aggressive look and stance, and having a Supercrew keeps it useful for business and family use. I would drive it daily so I know I will be taking a hit on mileage, but I figure I just need a used 330i or GTI for my commuting and then all is good....lol.
But I still want to drive a 6.2L Raptor Supercrew before I order. My salesperson is convinced the EB drives better and is more fun (the twin turbo surge reminded me of my 2008 F250 with the twin-turbo Powerstroke as it keep pulling like a locomotive after the turbos spooled up, but the EB is on demand and flies). I can't help think that the 6.2L is just as fun (albeit more expensive to fuel), and the grin factor will be greater just because you're in a Raptor to boot.
Decisions.
Sorry man! I understand the dilemma between the two though. You will probably make a decision long before me. I would also love to see an EB raptor but I think that is a mear pipe dream at the moment. I have already run up about 10k in mods to any potential raptor in my head
I just don't like the fact it's going to be a bear to modify the EB. the fact that you can't have ford adjust tire sizes sucks. I'd love to get a plat and just a bit more aggressive stance with a bit larger tire. Nothing radical, but I lose my warranty because to adjust for the tires I have to get a tune. This is why I am still leaning on the raptor, it already has the aggressive stance I am looking for.

The Raptor is one of a kind. If you get EB and someone asks you what you drive you will say "I drive an F-150". But if someone asks you what you drive and you respond "I drive a raptor", instant envy and/or jealousy will come across there face. Thats so worth it. And I dont know about you but when I see FORD in block letters on a grille flying up behind me it makes me happy.
But like everyone has said, no matter what, you will make a sexy truck even sexier with all the mods you do.
Go with the raptor.

So I have been patiently waiting for the new Raptor Supercrew to come out along with the 6.2L V8, and have been telling everyone that is what I am getting (even joined up on the Raptor forums). But today I dropped by the dealer to test drive one before I ordered mine, and they just sold their last one. Instead, I saw a beautiful silver Platinum with the EcoBoost engine, so I took that one out for fun.
I am sold, sold, sold. What a beautiful truck, but that new EcoBoost was a real hoot to drive AND gets really decent mileage (relatively speaking). Since I live in the high desert, I thought the Raptor would be fun and I definitely love the way it looks. But now I am not so sure.
Damn Ford. (joking)
Now I don't know what I want to do.

If I had to do it over I would look at the 5.0 or the 6.2 and call it done. I am only getting about 350 a tank so the 36 gallon tank would of been awesome.

I was fortunate enough to drive the 6.2 and the EB back to back. There is a difference for sure, but the rumble of the 6.2 exhaust will get ya
I hear ya on the pricing, I'd buy a raptor through Randy Wilson or a dealer willing to do invoice plus a few hundred. The idiot dealer here says 'ford doesn't allow haggling on SVT vehicles, the sticker is what you pay'... At that statement I just walked off.
If I got the itch to be economical all the sudden and save on both the truck and fuel, I'd love to use an A-plan on a regular f150. However I don't see that happening anytime soon...

'Dawg as often as you go through trucks I would vote get the raptor. As it has majority of the things you want and a little bit more mod friendly. The Ecoboost is a sweet truck having test driving one. Yet everybody I asked and talked to. Including my mod friendly dealers and having pulls in them said you mod it and it goes boom you own it! Plus to me I think you put a heavy 35" tire on it that pep is gone from it and no longer a rocket ship like it would be stock.
FX, get a diesel and be done with it! For $50k you can get a fully loaded F350 with every option! And diesel isn't even at it's highest price yet at the pump yet either! I know you want one or have wanted one. No comparison to the Ecoboost or 6.2 in the power department in my eyes. Plus my mod friendly dealers are more than willing to help me out when/if something goes wrong with it once I do the deletes. Than do a set of bolt in coil overs with a mini deaver pack and you have the raptors capabilities in a far more all around capable truck.

From what I have heard, the Raptor actually has the nicest road ride out there. I know it is a long travel, but the road feel is supposed to be great, not "water trucky" like you might expect and holds the weight of the 6.2L better than the normal F150s. IMO, the EB is not yet consumer proven either.
If you plan on jamming in another lift and set of 35's, the raptor already is setup to run the larger tire with the 4.10 gears... plus, the 6.2L's with 4.10s in the F250 that my buddies run are getting 20 and 21mpgs.

Let me make it a bit tougher for you... With a 5 Star tune and intake some guys with raptors (driving conservatively of course) are getting 18-20.. I can live with that while enjoying a raptor, hell even 14-16 mixed would make me happy. My current truck holds a solid 12 mpg's no matter if I am doing highway or city...

FX4 lux with Eco boost and 4.10s/locker option. You can get the 4.10s like the raptor if your order the EB. So you'd basically have an EB Raptor
With the money you save on gas driving the EB vs the 6.2 you can buy Icon Coilovers and rear deavers and Raptor wheels with 35" BFGs.

OMG...that's funny....I should photo shop my face in there as getting slapped...lol.

Thanks everyone for responding......this forum is the best as you really get all the ideas and experiences from folks who been there, done that!
I want my cake and eat it too, but maybe I can't have all the icing I want (i.e., EcoBoost performance, upscale interior/features of the Platinum, etc.) but as some folks have already suggested based on my love for modded trucks and offroad performance, I should keep to my true self and just order the dang Raptor (or at least now I am at least 80% there versus 50/50 between it and the Platinum). Thanks guys!
That said, I get to stress on which color...lol. I hope this thread continues a bit more as I really love hearing what others experienced with either choice.
Wow..if folks are really getting 18-20 mpg in a Raptor then the deal is sealed! As you said, even 14-16 mpg is better than my 12.5 that I was getting with my FX4.
Dang it!
Actually, I am staying away from the FX4 since I just did that (sans EcoBoost) so looking for something different. But yeah, that is not a bad setup!
