Thanks so much for the part numbers. This is exactly what I needed. It was nice getting the help I needed.

Hi Joe, a little update, I have not yet had a chance to actually do the bulk of the prep and paint work, but i did get it all apart and ready to be attacked. The surround had some rock chip damage, that bulged the finish in a few places, and i used these areas as a test subject.

I used 500 grit sandpaper, by hand, and began sanding the rock chip area. It sanded black, not white as a clear coat would, so it is positively not clear coated. It continued to sand rather difficultly although it is worth mentioning that after only a couple swipes the platinum color finish gave way to a regular chrome finish, until I hit a copper color pit in the center. I believe that these grills are dipped like is in this video.

I'm not sure how they get the platinum dullness, but it might be something as simple as a quick acid dip after the chrome process.

Busy getting the house ready for baby #2 coming. I'll let you know of any new developments

GDM, I am hoping you can give me a little insight on the platinum grill mod you did. I picked up a '10 plat grill yesterday for a whopping $50, and plan to do a PTM on the surround, but leave the honeycomb section as is. I read in a post of yours a while back somewhere that your bodyshop said the grill was clear coated over the veneer.

Do you remember what their approach was to painting it? Did they simply sand and paint, or remove the veneer? How is it holding up upon a close-up inspection? My personal preference would be to remove the coating and start with bare plastic, but I am unsure of which method to use to remove it. Once it's bare plastic I have fantastic fool proof products to guarantee adhesion.

Debating between simply sand, and paint (and pray), or attempting a heat gun removal of the "film", or to treat it like chrome plastic and shoot it with oven cleaner. The wrong choice, could be a huge mistake.

Anyway, can you fill me in on what you know about it please?

List all part #'s for the bed extender please.
I would like to replace the rubber bumper stops on top and bottom if available.

Hey gDMJoe, what did you use to paint the edges of your tails? Did you spray them. I just got mine today and want to do the same thing since my truck is black.
