'04 owners how's your truck holding up?
My truck is 04 F150 XLT Scab 5.4L
Bought the truck with 38000 in 06 and as of today has 78000 on it. Pulled a 27ft travel trailer at least 10 times on flat Florida highways for a total of about 1000 miles. No problems at all with regard to towing.
Things I have done:
replaced all 4 rotors in winter of 07 with drilled/slotted and Carquest blue pads (only cuz I wanted too)
Fuel filter has been changed twice
regular oil changes every 5k miles with 5w20 and motorcraft filter
replaced swaybar links @ 50k with moog links from rockauto.com
replaced master window/doorlock switch in 07
broken passenger manifold stud repaired in August of 09 ($540)
Now I have an acceleration issue when the engine comes to normal operating temperature. I have power at intial start up, but when normal operating temperature is reached and I mash the pedal, truck rpms and speedometer move up slowly until it reaches about 50 mph. Checked the pcv valve and I am gonna replace that later this year, along with rear wheel passenger axel seal. Other than that, the cam phazer issue I can live with and the plugs will get changed in the next 5k miles or so. Any suggestions as to what may cause my power loss once engine is at normal operating temp? Thanks everyone, I have learned a lot of info from this site!

46000+miles on my 04 xl 4.6 scab longbed and only problems ive had was one day the brake lights went out, but came back the next time i started it (??weird??) not been a problem since; the other problem was my fault, i did the Gotts mod and got my MAF dirty in the process (got curious about what else i could mod so broke the whole unit down) so truck ran rich and threw my CEL a couple times...cleaned the MAF and opted for a k&n drop in filter and now the gray monster is runnin like a beast
Thought I'd bump this thread to give an update rather then start a new one.
Well, I've had my '04 for 6 years and two months now and I'm very happy with how the old girl is holding up. 72K on the clock and it's still as solid as the day I drove it out of the showroom. Warranty's been gone for 3 years now and there's been zero problems. Outside of the normal mileage related stuff like plugs, serp belt, shocks, brakes, battery and a pinion seal it's been holding up very well.
Everytime I drive it I love how solid it still feels, thanks to that crazy stiff frame, and I'm impressed that it hasn't developed a single creak or rattle. Everything is still tight and solid.
When I went looking for a new truck 6 years ago it was definitely the right choice to buy the F150. It makes me feel pretty good to look at the new trucks on the market and know that my 6 year old rig is still built better and stronger.
Where this Blue Oval fan is concerned, Built Ford Tough isn't just a slogan.

Tbird,
I've got to say I agree 100%...my '04 has 76K on it and it still runs great.
I've done brakes, serp, fuel pump controller, outer axle seals, plugs and two COP's. If you go to Edmunds.com to look up our trucks value...they're listed as a "Used Vehicle Best Bet".....and we know why!

same here the 04 is in great shape 76,000 and still running strong. just changed the plugs with no issues was happy there. also just had a set of cooper discoverers put on it. had the 2.5 as levelers on since i bought new with no issues. other than that the truck is all original. forgot i checked the fuel pump module it looked ok but i shimmed it with washers.

my 2006 is mechanically fine, but the interior is already showing it's age, the seat is torn, but that had already started when i bought it. i really don't like all the plastic bits in the interior either, they look alright but you can't really touch them, everything feels really cheap
i'm really displeased with the thickness of steel they used for the body/bed. a large steel plate i was carrying slid a bit and the corner punctured a hole in the bed of my truck. that wouldn't happen on a 1990 f-150, but i guess to save weight and money over the years they keep making the metal thinner and thinner.
i've replaced the pads in the front, and at 94,000km, new spark plugs. thats it, i don't tow but occasionally haul stuff, like couches, fridges, steel plates, plywood, engine blocks etc.

starting to cost
04 66,000 miles mostly highway
replaced IWE myself
rear axle, bearing&seal to the tune of $1000.00 at dealer(ripoff)ship.
all 4 rotors and pads(rotor were really Rusty and pitted, pads still had some use
lights on window buttons not working,
front window seal broke loose along dash board so I get moisture on window,
window squeaking in cold weather,
paint peeling on front of hood,
after an oil change the first start sound like diesel engine till the oil works thru (is this normal or should I be inspecting more trouble
).

If it makes noises at each start-up, then get worried.
72k on my 04 FX4
Front passenger caliper replaced (piston seized)
Serp belt
Oil every 3k (truck sits a lot these days)
Brake pads all 4 (should have gone thermoquiets, gonna do it soon though)
Still running on original plugs, and plan too until 100k
Haven't looked at the now famous Fuel Pump Control Module..... when the weather gets better.....

04 f150 screw 4x4 lariat
just hit 100k
gas door removed. didn't buy a new one. old one broke cause of spring
ball joints done a while back
dreading the spark plug change
need a full tune up
shifter **** cap broke. used a ton of super glue
a/c goes on the fritz every now and then.
horrible gas mileage since day one
electric window motor went out early around 15k
electric window button went out and replaced with the one in the back door. too lazy to go to the stealership and get ripped off.
leak from the back window. might be the 3rd brake light seal.
brakes were done around 35k.

It amazes me how many of these parts you have to purchase the whole assembly for a .50 part. The vent cowl is another example. The set cost $150 to replace. Those soft rubber ends are not sold seperately, so you must by the complete cowl. It won't matter because the new ones won't last very long as well.
