Best truck I ever owned!!!

I know it's not an '04, but it's not far off. Has 189,800 miles on it and still going strong (knock on wood ) Just put $500 into plugs, injectors, coils, filters and fluids, did the work myself to save money, and what a difference new parts make!! truck runs like new and gained some mpgs back.

Only major stuff was ball joints and leaking rear axle seal, but I chaulk that up to maintenance, nothing lasts forever. Just remember: the F150 is the #1 selling truck in the world and there's a reason for that!

2004 FX4 - 226,000 miles original owner. Have replaced three sets brake pads and 6 sets of tires. Everything is still running great. Will be looking for an 07-09 to replace him with before anything starts to go.

Well... after 7 years, getting new clutch packs put in under warranty, having the transmission rebuilt at 97k miles a few months ago, and replacing the driver side window regulator a few weeks ago I'm sad to say the death of the 04' FX4 came last Monday... death by Ford Ranger. I was sitting in traffic and the person hit me going roughly 50mph without touching the brakes.

Kind of hard to see how bent the bed/frame is but you'll notice the hitch is pointing towards the ground...

137,450 miles. No problems. Also tow a 6000 lb camper. Added a K&N air filter assembly in 2005. Adds noticeable horsepower during towing. Had 2 warranty issues in the first year (auto window motor and gas lid spring). Absolutely no problems since. Battery was replaced at 125000 miles (6 years). It was still strong, but I thought this thing can't last forever. Had transmission flushed and serviced once. Still have not changed the spark plugs. This Ford is tough.

Man that sucks!! I can't believe a Ranger did your truck in. 5 years ago I got rear ended by a car that was pushed into my truck by another (both import compacts), we all had to hit the brakes in traffic and a woman who was talkin' on her cell phone wasn't paying attention pushed the Toyota behind me, which had just come to a stop, into my rear. She was doing around 35 mph, maybe a little faster, both cars ended up being totaled and you couldn't even tell I had been hit, they pretty much hit a brick wall....... my truck . Ford pickum up 1, two chitty imports 0

Yeah, she pushed me into the van in front of me, I too had just come to a stop in the traffic that is at that particular intersection EVERYDAY! I can't say for certain but I'd be willing to bet she was texting while driving since she has previous charges for that.

It could have been a lot worse though, the week prior to being hit my little "hoopty" (92 escort wagon) car dropped a valve. If it hadn't I would have been driving that since it got 30mpg.

82k miles on it and the only problems I've had were leaking brake lines, but that's it

I am sad to say that I have to trade mine in. I am happy to say it is getting traded in for a new super duty with the 6.7L. It has been a great truck, here are a small list of problems that I have encountered with 168,000 miles:

-one altenator (wife drove in 4 low on dry pavement for 120 miles and it fried!)
-clutch dif bulletin
-2 coil overs
-plugs (2nd time had 50k on them, probably from bad coil)

general maintenance:
-brakes (originals made 100k miles)
-serp belt
-shocks
-plugs (1st time)

2004 New Style XLT with 5.4. Engine whines, but I'm not worrying (yet). Minor issues, but nothing serious aside from lower ball joints that destroyed a set of front tires. Truck is not perfect, but it's not bad.

Best advice. If something seems wrong, have it checked out early, rather than waiting for a catastrophic failure.

About 400 miles away from 120,000 miles. Got the truck 7 months ago with 107,000 miles and haven't had anything serious happen yet. Put ball joints on passenger side, changed spark plugs and had to change the rear differential fluid because of the clutch pack chatter. Brakes and rotors are next on the agenda.

Just got a new used 2004 F150 XLT Triton SuperCrew, only had 54,500 miles on it. Guy took supreme care of it. No issues what so ever. Looking forward to thousands upon thousands of miles more to put on it. Cannot wait to use the tow package and haul a trailer for my first time. Been wanting a truck since I was a little kid, cannot believe the amount of possibilities. I am going to flip this truck and make sure I protect the interior and keep up on all the general work to keep it running smooth for years. I previously had a 08' Ford Escape XLT, came with 15,000mi and I traded it in with 92,000mi after only 3years. Yikes! I use to take a LOT of cross country trips.
