My 04 Screw Fx4 just went over 68,000. Other than replacing the #3 sparkplug a few times, I haven't had any major issues (knocking on wodd).

Hey all, first post EVER My 04 F150 Lariat 5.4L is at 127,500 miles on original engine, and transmission, just have replaced spark plugs, ignition coil boots, fuel filter, cleaned throttle body, and clean my K&N air intake religiously. Only have one problem I can't pinpoint yet... I get the CEL after rain and the the engine dies when coming to a rolling stop sometimes... could be water getting on my wires from my PCM to the ignition coils on cylinder 1 and 6 or fuel injector problem. anyone gots ideas? pulling P0351 and P0356 codes. (It is NOT the ignition coils or spark plugs i've replaced them twice now and have used the dielectric grease. Thanks all

Ya gotta love 'em...

Hey fellas! New to the FORD forum and like what I've read as it has been very helpful. I have an 04' STX/4.6 work truck that runs like a charm. 2nd new truck I've ever had. The first was a 2003 Silverado, wow, did that thing ever suck! It was sealed about as tight as swiss cheese and after driving it like a baby 5.3 miles to work and back, never off-road, the front end dumped. Oh, did I mention the engine knocked so loud it sounded like a herd of hammers trying to escape from under the hood? Shees...I was a GM guy, unitl I owned a new one! We traded it for 'Ol Bessy' and have been in love ever since.
Anyhoo, my STX has 130+ and up until two days ago it has only needed a couple of rotors/wheel bearings and a Throttle Body. I just lost OD BUT...thanks to this forum, I am about 90% sure it is being caused by the infamous OD snap ring issue. Reading for the past 3 days has shed light on what to look for and thus far, it all makes sense. If anybody has ANY additional info they might want to share, please feel free to contact me. I'll post again 2 morrow, 2/12/11, to let ya know how it goes. My email is:tacraftsmen@hotmail.com
Humbly,
Eric

My 04 Screw 2WD has 35k miles and I put a magnuson supercharger on it at 30K. The supercharger helped with the power and made it fun but hurt in the gas mileage ~12mpg now. Don't use the truck much so other than breaking a spark plug doing the engine mod have had window problems. On my third window regulator replacement. Both front doors and now a rear door. Not to bad to replace just wish they would design the regulator without so much tension on the cables so the plastic pieces would hold up that anchor the cables or use something stronger than plastic to anchor the cables. The rear window motor has also been replaced. Other than windows truck is fine and surprises some people when the supercharger kicks in.

I read through pages of this thread before I bought my '04 Supercab. I bought it in October with 94,000 and it's been running great. Plenty of life in the engine and the interior was in good shape too. The body was starting to show signs of decay so I had a body shop fix up the peeling paint under the doors and seal them and take care of some rust and dents under the rocker panels and the tailgate. It's got 97,000 on it now but the paint/body work took YEARS off its appearance and I expect it to run til 200,000. So far so good!

2004 stx 4.6

Bought my 04 branny new and just reached 58k. Truck has never let me down. The only things I have done to it as far as a major repair was replacing my drivers side rear brake caliper and all 4 rotors. ive been running fully synthetic oil in my truck and seems to be keeping the motor in tip top shape.

OK, so I gloated and the spirits spanked me for it. Three days after this post I had to replace the airbag crash sensor under the hood! Easy job but diagnosing it was a pain. Had the 5x5 sets of beeping chimes at every startup. Super annoying! Started by pulling the bezel off and messed around with the instrument panel thinking maybe it was a blown bulb. All I managed to do was apparently loosen another bulb that illuminates the odometer (to be tackled another day) but the overall report is "success"!

I just rolled past 78K on my 2007 S'Crew. No major issues. At about 51K I had a bad driver's side front wheel bearing go bad. It was about $160 for a new hub w/ ABS sensor from RockAuto and it took me about 45 minutes to replace. Since I had to take the brake caliper off that side anyhow, I went ahead and replaced the front pads (both sides, of course!) with Wagners, but the originals still had a lot of meat left on them...I do a lot of highway driving.

About a year and a half ago I got it swamped bad...some water made it into the intake duct, but it never even hiccupped. However the next day the serpentine belt tensioner pulley began screaming (related to the swamping, I bet) and I had to go away on a family business trip the next day so I just had my wife take it to the dealer for that and a new belt. Other than that and new Motorcraft 5W-20/FL820S replacements every 5K miles, tools have never had to touch it. Can't complain one bit, as far as reliability goes. I'm still in awe of how smooth and solid it feels driving down the road. The steering is weighted and ratio'ed perfectly. I always buy new trucks and by this point I'm sick of them and get something else. Not this time. As bad as I want a 2011, I just can't justify it because I'm still so satisfied with the '07.

My main fear is the ramdomness of problems people seem to have. It's so different from most other vehicles, where you read about people usually having the same issues because the vehicle has some common failures. Here, we have a few of those problems almost everyone seems to have eventually (spark plugs, window regulators, etc) but we also seem to get a lot of "out of left field" problems. My bearing for instance...back when it happened, I think maybe ONE other member responded that they had a similar failure. The frozen brake caliper and bad airbag sensor in some replies above are more...I can't seem to remember reading about that happening to anyone else. At least common problems, you generally know what to watch out for and how to repair it if/when it happens, due to the knowledge base here.

Other than brakes and oil, I did have to replace the ball joints at 100K. And had to rebuild the rear end at 150K. I think that is too soon for both of those items. I also had to replace a speed sensor in the rear end, and a solenoid for the 4WD. I use the motorcraft syntetic blend oil, and full synthetic in the diffs and tranny. Changing the fluid when the owners manual says to, and I figure this truck will outlast any of my previous trucks.

I was a Chevy guy my whole life. Have had 4 Chevys before this truck, all lasted 150K - 200K. This Truck has been such a good truck that when the Engine or tranny does finnally go, I will probably just rebuild and keep going to 300K and beyond! This truck has changed me to a Ford guy.
Boy did I jinx myself!!! Just rebuilt the tranny!

6 years of snowplowing, 5 sets of tires and 270,000 miles my 04 FX4 is still an awesome truck.

The backlighting on my odometer burned out a few months ago. That's it.

My son is going to start driving it soon, and I'm getting a new truck!

Will be passing 100k by the end of the week, no major hiccups so far..except replacing the trans at 75k

It does have a crazy rough idle the first time i crank it after it rains and it spits and sputters usually the whole drive first thing in the morning..then i guess whatever got wet dries out?..anyone know what's up with that?
