junkyard baby.

you can get a decent low mileage longblock for $1,000 to 2,000

simply put your accessories onto it, then slap into the truck.

cheap, and you can pretty much be assured you'll get another 50,000+ miles out of it. I've had great luck through the years with junkyard motors...especially if you buy 'em with lower mileage

also, if you shop around on eBay, you can find 'em for under $3,000 shipped that are virtually brand new

My 2004 was built 7/03, purchased it Jan. 2004.
40K miles and runs great.
Initially had alot of the issues the early models had (leaky taillight lens, rear end rebuild, replaced throttle body assembly, new outside temp sensor, replaced from disc's and i think there was a few more issues that were covered under warranty. But have not had problem 1 since then.

04 F150 2wd supercrew
2007 all 4 window regulators went out within 60 days of each other.
Big hole in driver's seat where you get in and out.
Auto headlite sensor erratic.
3 sets of front brakes in 96000 mi
1 rear set at 55000
In garage now for front rotors and ceramic pads
On the plus side it still has the original battery. Seat fabrics are CRAP!!!!
worst I have ever had or seen. They can't even be cleaned. Right after you clean them they look worse. But is a great truck.

So far so good. I still love the truck and plan to keep it another 2-3 years I've had the ball joints go out but that's it. And that was due to some aggressive offroading. Next I'm thinking either another F150 on 38s of an F250 on 40s. I've been very pleased with my lift setup, it rides outstanding..

Still Going Strong @ 105,000 Miles

My '04 Lariat S'Crew is wonderful. Very few problems...I do have a post on this site because I am having an intermittant heat problem and the sliding rear window(too lazy to fix) And getting ready to change Serpintine belt but everything is pretty much Ok. However, I have had mine serviced to keep it running Ok.
Tranny Flush: 60K and 90k
Plugs:97
Oil Change(MotorCraft 5W20): Every 4K
Throttle Body,Injectors,Air Induction,Coolant Flush: 100K
Brakes:Can't Remember(Maybe @ 65K)

Note on Brakes: Even tho' I only got the rear rotors turned, the front were not because of the way they are mounted and it caused no ill effect because they were'nt that bad. But when the occasion arises for the front rotors to be replaced get ready for an EXPENSIVE set for this truck and from an associate of mine who had to get a set, only the Dealer had them at that time and boy...were they EXPENSIVE. 400-500$$ for the set!!!

04 FX4 Screw @ 68000 miles

Im due for brakes, rotors are warped pretty bad

I've had both passenger side window regulators break last week and I had the driver side front one break on me tonight. Junky regulators.

no major problems with my truck otherwise.

Got mine back on the road a couple of weeks ago. Used an engine out of a '05 that had been rolled (48,000 mi). Removal and installation was a real pain but can be done without removing the cab.
