04 lariat 4x4 with 102,500 miles. No major issues at all and this truck hasnt had the easiest life (lots of towing and offroad on the farm) Had the brakes replaced at around 50k and the plugs changed around 70k. On the way to the beach this weekend I averaged 18.2 mpg by the computer. I love this trucks and have no plans of getting rid of it.

I am at about 117,000 miles and this month alone I have done u-joints, front brakes and rotors, pinion seal and alternator.
I am bleeding money. I hope it stops soon.

My '04 has 83k miles on it. I have replaced 2 window regulators, a battery, and have started to get an exhaust leak from the manifold (I think).

How in the heck do you get 18.2mpg without a 20mph tailwind?

Got my coolant flushed. AC checked. Xfer case fluid drained. Was getting an alignment but the front outer tierod was done.

Had the tranny and rear diff fluids changed recently. Gotta do a fuel filter and oil/filter change soon. Not to mention a serpentine belt as well.

Hopefully when I'm done I won't have to deal with any major breakdowns. I'm sitting at 111k miles right now getting 13.5 mpg on stock computer and 33 inch tires.

I wouldn't mind getting some lockers. I see myself going more offroad this summer especially near the water and sand and mud.

I'm right around 90,500 now with my 04 FX4 SCREW. I purchased it on 9/08 with 65k already on it.

-Replaced the rear diff with a Detroit TrueTrac because the clutch packs went bad and Ford wanted $1066 or so to fix it.
-There was a hole in my bed under the liner, from the previous owner:

Got Line-X.
-Windshield sprayers and water pump had to be replaced.
-Lower ball joints replaced with MOOGs.
-3rd brake light was leaking bad, replaced with Recon model.
-Shocks were shot, replaced with Bilstein 5100's.
-Some window switches don't light up.

I think that's alright, considering. It's going to Ford soon for scheduled service on the transmission. Fingers crossed.

Thanks,
Anthony

With my stock wheels & tires, my 5.4L 3.73 at 70mph, 1940 - 1960rpm with A/C on setting 2, got 20.4mpg highway. Slow acceleration and smooth passing is they key, inflating the tires from 40 to 45psi helps too.

With the XDs and Toyo's, i'm lucky to break 17.6 highway.

Tell you the truth I don't think my tires are inflated past 35 psi. I'll try pumping up to 40psi. I forsee a rougher ride and I was already contemplating how to make my truck smoother yet more responsive.

17.6???? I can't remember the last time I was there. I wonder if I was ever. I drive so slow I feel 20 years older. Even if my factory computer misses a mile or 2 because of the miscalculations of the 33 inch tires that still only 15.5.

General maintenance, tires, brakes etc. up to 97k miles when the transmission failed, in the shop currently having it rebuilt. I had the rear end shudder from the start and Ford replaced the clutch packs in the rear to fix that. Other than that it's been fine.

The transmission going up really raises doubts whether or not I will own another Ford product though.

I just cracked 100k this month and I had the plugs switched out too. None broke thankfully but was charged over $300 to do it all. How does that price sound compared to everywhere else? I started to get better response and mpg instantly. I have 33s and CAI, I avg 13.5 city and 19 hwy going 70, going 55 I get over 20 easy. Before this I had to replace a u joint, but that was from romping on it at the ranch all the time.

Purchased 2004 Screw 3 years ago with 78K miles.

Here is the list of parts that have been changed so far.
Replaced front brake pads 2 years ago
100k Replaced motor with used 30K mile motor (lifters failed or whatever they call them).
AC recharge and new battery.
Replaced 2 Window regulator assemblies, and 1 is still broken.
Replaced 2 Tie rod ends.
2 new front struts. (Rears shocks needs replacing just haven't done them.
Used set of 4 tires
And now just ordered all around rotors and brake pads.

Bought my 04 Extended Cab XLT (4.6L) in 2006 with 54,000 miles on it. Have had very few problems out of it. Have 114,000 miles. Changed plugs, front brakes and trans fluid and other small maintenance but that's about it. The truck runs well.

My '04 has 74k miles on it. Only major problem was the tranny at 60k miles. When the truck would shift into overdrive, it would just slip. Put a junk yard tranny in it. No problems. I have been very happy with the truck. I am dreading the spark plug change. Nothing else but basic maintanence items. Change my oil every 3k miles and only have used Motorcraft oil and filter.

136K on the 5.4 FX4 Screw since new. I had a rash of common issues mostly before 40K including rotors warping, rear diff and etc. but after that it has been solid. I have a 5100 lift with LT285-70R17 on Centerlines. Yes I ditched the 18" OE wheel size. Two brake jobs and about done with this second set of tires. 61K on the OE tires and 75K on these Goodyear Wranglers.

Had the trans OD slip around 60 or 70 but the dealer fixed it in the truck for $500. No issues since. Pretty much had only Ford do any work on it because unlike some stealerships mine is pretty reasonable (for a dealership). Did plugs at 120K and have followed most of the Ford service recommendations including the 100K service that happened at 120K with the plugs.

I used to bitch about it a little along the way. Power is not what it should be and the ride could be better.....OE or 5100 is not great but it is a 4x4. The seats are not all that comfortable and the faded black plastic all the way around the outside flat pisses me off. Like most of the rest of you I could go on but I stopped a little while back.

My wife's 2003 Yukon with 80K is a total rattle box POS (which is why I buy Fords, why we have it is another story). In the end my truck has its issues like it always has but as I drive it today it is still one of the quietest, nicest looking solid trucks I have ever owned. People are flat shocked when I tell them it has 136K and even more when they ride in it. Like everything else I own, it is taken very well care of but I drive it hard.

For a first year effort Ford nailed it. Not just because I like Fords but because I know plenty of people with Dodges and Government Motors too. I had a 99 F250LD 4x4 before this that was awesome and I thought I would never get used to the 04 body. I did and today I hate the 2010 body even more. What the hell is up with those indented fenders and worse yet the Lincoln tailgate and taillights?

Anybody know where I can find a new leftover 2004?

I put an alternator on at 75,000 miles, other than that no problems.
