Thumper, I thought you were set on the Fabtech a while back? What made you change your mind?

Honestly, I still wish I could use the Fabtech but I emailed them and they said strictly 5" backspacing. Helo Maxx 6s are 5.5" backspacing and Im not going to sell my wheels and get ones when the Rancho will be more than good enough for me. I was also a little leary about the driveshaft work, I know its not a big deal but thats just me.

I had rubbing with 4.5" backspacing. Some minor cutting and grinding fixed it.

was going to let this die but,let me ask, without the spacer at top ,ie no lift, what happens if you jack the truck up by the frame or go airborn?the tires will hang down to the full extension of shock/strut ,will upper a-frame still hit the spring ? my guess is yes.with the spacer you are just moving the control arm closer to the spring more often but still in the same plane of geometric travel as stock...so stock it will hit the spring too just not as often

No. The strut limits the length of travel. Ford wouldn't put out a product that did that.

I had the exact same thought too... but this is pretty much it:

with the spacer you are just moving the upper spindle closer to the spring
(control arm/spingle, everything is re-adjusted)

if it was factory settings, then the spring would be sitting 2" inches higher, farther away from the spindle..... IMO

Oh yeah, i also attempted to contact extremetrucktoys about this problem, and sent the pictures.. NO reply yet...

this is true....but Mr Nut says the shock will limit the travel if stock.so stock won't hit the spring....i'm going with my bandaged control arms and let it rock and roll...pay later or sell it.

hey OMC, the kit you have, is it just a spacer? Or is it the whole replacement spring assembly from Skyjacker?

Not happy, after doing some research (apparently not enough) decided to buy the spacers, put them in last night, truck looks perfect for all it is worth. Go to take it on a test drive and hear clunking on a rough road. Thinking I have done something wrong putting it back together I decided to take it to my mechanic to check it out... Will find out tommorow what the verdict is, not going to be happy if I need to be pullin em back out.
Guess its the price you pay to make your truck look correct?

autospring

i have the 2.5 autospring and no problems to date as for the angles cv joints were designed to handle increased angles thats one of the reasons auto manufacturers did away with the old u joint front ends ford is running cv joints on the front of the superduty now also. so stop worrying and enjoy your lifted truck.its a 4x4 and there will be repairs needed from time to time lifted or not.

Check the top 3 bolts on the shock tower, they're probally loose.
