Well I must admit I too feel a little better about taking mine off a couple of months ago. I had the 2.5 Daystar and caught hell on here about taking it off. But I was getting the same rubbing on spring issue and the tie rod and cv joint angles were pretty severe. I do miss the look very much but would rather have the truck mechanically sound.

I guess I didn't want to believe it was hurting anything because it looked so darned good.
Come on, man... No apology is necessary. My apologies to you for not following through with posting pictures, but I received such skepticism, that I felt it wasn'tworth the headache. Anyhow, did you notice any unnatural "grooves" in the aluminum lower control arm? If you get a chance, check that out also. Maybe we can save some other fellow members the headache.

As an aside, let me tell you, these businesses that released these leveling kits better have a corporate identity that can be easily dissolved. With the strict liability imposed in consumer products, they may be in for some nasty litigation if enough people can get organized to persue such a remedy. Here's a short synopsis of what I am referring to:

Products Liability is generally considered a strict liability offense. Strict liability wrongs do not depend on the degree of carefulness by the defendant. Translated to products liability terms, a defendant is liable when it is shown that the product is defective. It is irrelevant whether the manufacturer or supplier exercised great care; if there is a defect in the product that causes harm, he or she will be liable for it.

Are you trying to say that the Autospring hurt your lower control arm too?

I am not trying to say anything anymore... I have learned my lesson. But, I would recommend that others that have installed any type of leveling kit check their lower control arm for strange wear; I believe the lower control arms might be susceptible to unintended wear when turning the steering wheel to either extreme when a leveling kit has been installed.

Quit beating around the bush and just say it.

Is this "unintended wear" only on trucks with the Autospring kit, or does it apply to ALL F150s?

summamabiaach!

That was my response when i saw this... this sucks! But ill keep the leveling kit on as long as this is as bad as it gets. This is what everyone is talking about right?? (lemme try and post the pics)

There is an elbow on the back of the upper spindle.. could this be whats doing the damage? Could it be "modified"?

I didnt get a chance to really get upclose with it, just went out and took these pics with my phone.

Have thought alot about this lift, i havent been able to go offroad once since i installed it. Been thinking of Chip Foose's idea on his 4x4,,, lowering it, larger wheels, maybe some "ground effect kit". What is the "safest" height you can go if you lower? I know i know, Lower a 4x4? But hey, if i had $$ to pay it down and trade it up for a 4x2 AND A 5.4, id consider it. Anyways.. thats another thread to be started! L8trs...

Thank you for bringing to my attention the ambuguity in my previous post. I was only referring to "unintended wear" that may be found in F-150s using any type of leveling kit, be it the steel spacer style or the aluminum spacer style. I have amended my previous post to correct the inherent ambiguity.

Damn! You know, it has been so long since I have seen the ridiculous angle that these leveling kits impose on the upper control arm, that I wonder what I was thinking in the first place. I guess the improved appearance was enough to make me ignore what was plainly obvious.

Note: I am not a mechanic, nor am I otherwise professionally qualified to comment on the ridiculousness of any angle, of any component, on any vehicle. My comments are based solely on the observations of similarly equipped vehicles, and amount to a mere opinion.

Where on the lower control arm should I look for this unintended wear? What do you believe to be causing it?

OK, how about this...

my thoughts... What if you remove the spacers, and purchase the 3" skyjacker kit? its all new coils etc etc you all know. BUT, my concern is, your not replacing the spindle! So would it dig into those springs too?? or are they smaller? I didnt want the skyjacker to begin with, the axle/cv angles looked way to scary for my likings. But i wouldnt think a name like "SKYJACKER" would sell a piece of crap.

i dunno.. just wondering.

I would think it would do the same thing.
